Alex Smith has one good season, Jeff George has 3, arguably 4 seasons better than Alex's one good season.
I know George has been painted as a megabust, but his 4100 yards, 24 TDS and 11 picks season dwarfs anything Alex Smith has done(in an easier to pass in NFL as well). Ditto for his 3900 yards, 29 TD, 9 int season.
Those years are substantially better than anything Alex has ever mustered.

LOL @ someone calling Jerrod Johnson a sleeper. He was awful last year in Eagles camp; arm strength is the least of his problems, his problems include but are not limited to his slow release, elongated throwing motion, bad footwork and horrible ball placement. Looks the part though, I'll give him that.

George physically sure, mentally not so sure.
Brad Johnson maybe. I'd say Smith has been more clutch in his short career versus Johnson though.

How many of those seasons resulted in a lot of garbage-time stats though? The 1997 season, one of George's best years, the Raiders were 4-12. And he got sacked 58 times that season. As a matter of fact, he was sacked a ridiculous amount on every team he played going over the 50 mark twice. I know team success doesn't necessarily tell the story of the individual, but at the same time a lot of those numbers could have come in garbage time situations. And a lot of George's best years, he actually had some pretty talented players having career years or just simply being good. Smith hasn't had this luxury for the majority of his career. The only constant has been Vernon Davis through the air. Combine that with the ineptitude of the franchise the last few years, and it's not surprising that Smith's growth as an NFL quarterback has been stunted.
And just to make things clear, I'm not saying George didn't have better physical tools, or if he had a better attitude about certain things when many people believed he didn't, he wouldn't have blown up. The guy definitely had potential. And I'm also not saying that Alex doesn't deserve some of the blame of the misfortune that has plagued him in years past. However to say that Jeff George was a better quarterback clear, cut, and dry...I don't agree with that.

Once he had shoulder surgery, it was over.

Agreed. Really like the tandem of Bush & Miller together.

Here's your new Steelers slot receiver -- Get that man an 80s jersey number! His nickname at Bama was AMAZING for a reason! He will take over from Hines Ward as designated circus catch maker.

Jeff George's best years were easily better. How much he's better "mentally" he is really doesn't matter, his results were far superior.
And lol at touting Smith's clutchness over Johnson. Not even dignifying with response.
Anyway, Moss looks like he's in phenomenal shape, and he's really motivated... right now. But 4-5 games into the season, when they're pounding the rock, Harbaugh style, and Smith doesn't have the balls to keep attacking and trying to push the ball to Moss, will he shut it down? I love Randy, but he needs an aggressor at QB.

Jeff George's best years stat wise were better than Aikman's and McNair's. Doesn't mean he was a better quarterback compared to the two.
Hey you were saying Johnson to Smith and saying he was better. I'm just saying based on what I've seen over the years, Alex has been a little more clutch than Johnson in winning games. You can play the "I'm not going to dignify that with a response" card if you want, but it really just comes off as a cop-out more than anything else.
And if Moss quits on the team, then so-be it. It's not going to help him in any way shape or form, and the 49ers will just dominate without him like they did last year. San Francisco has nothing to lose. So we can stop pretending like this will be a problem.
Also, I don't see why Smith wouldn't have the courage to push the ball down the field to Moss. Not sure what your basis for that conclusion is.

Nah, just the way the light hit when the photo was taken. Alex's hairline is fine from what I've seen in recent photos.
