2012 MLB Draft Thread
Ok boys...were starting to inch closer and closer to the MLB draft in June.
Lets get the discussion going in here.
Fisch we need you!
Here is the link to BA's First Free Mock.

Really intrigued by Byron Buxton. Coming from a rural Georgia High School you would think the Braves would have tried to stash him away.

I followed the draft for the first time last year. It was fun. The Jays killed it. If I am not mistaken this will be the first year where each team gets allocated a certain amount of funds to sign all their guys. Should be interesting.

Dont have the expertise for amateur players like i do in football (no comment from the peanut gallery) so anyone that has a potential power hitting outfielder for the Seattle Mariners feel free to let me know who that would be.

Keith Law loves Buxton. Says he is drawing comps to Justin Upton, Matt Kemp, and Josh Hamilton.
Would be a nice pickup for the Astros.

Picking third i hope he's there. Not sure about what theire strategy is. This is a team that passed on the likes of Troy T and Ryan Braun for Jeff Clement although that was a differant regime.

Tough call for the Mariners on that one, as I recall that Clement was regarded as the best catcher and second best college player in the draft.
Looking back the 1st Round in 2005 produced some very solid players
Justin Upton, Alex Gordon, Ryan Zimmerman, Ryan Braun, Ricky Romero, Troy Tulowitzki, Andrew McCutchen, Jay Bruce, Jacoby Ellsbury, Matt Garza, and Colby Rasmus all have had very strong careers.
Even Cliff Pennington, Craig Hansen, and Tyler Greene have had ok careers.

Yeah Clement was a tough pill to swallow but at the time no one would have dissed that pick. Clement was a great college hitter and was solid behind the plate. It would be nice to see Tulo playin short in Seattle but I wouldnt be surprised to see them go with Correa, he looks to be a stud.
Ill be very interested to see where Appel goes, I played with him for a while 2 summers ago in New England so it'll be cool to see.

The Royals really need to land a pitcher with #5. They have position players just burning through the system, but the pitching is lagging behind.

I think Buxton will fall to you at 3. The Astros I see taking whichever of the two college pitchers they see as more polished, Appel or Gausman. The new Houston management comes from St. Louis, who have been known to prefer collegiate players. I would assume the Twins could take Zunino, who they can rush up to eventually replace Mauer behind the plate.

What's the word on Peter O'Brien? I heard he's looking more at that 2nd round range now?

Did the wrist injury have anything to do with that?

The Mariners have the exact opposite problem. I'm in the very small minority about this but I would rather see Zunino as a Mariner than Correa or Buxton.

No, the wrist injury was merely a hairline fracture. He's just not a 1st Round Talent IMO

I'll try putting a final mock draft up on here since I'm addicted to draft projections but I haven't watched much college baseball or really followed who teams are looking at. Anyone else planning on posting one?

Looks like Deven Marrero is on top of the Pirates' board, and I'd be completely OK with it. He may not be a .300 hitter, but I think he'll be a solid gap hitter and play great defense. I also want Lucas Giolito and Albert Almora.

Who do you want for our pick? Curious to see if our names match.

Out of players that might bethere? Fried, Hawkins, Eflin, maybe Gallo, and then Heaney is the only college guy I like as of now. I'm a little late on the draft this year so I just started to really get into the players but as of now that's probably my list. Who were you thinking of?
