Part of me is upset about the idiocy of this deal, but as I'm sure this will come back and bite the Saints in the ass when they have to let other players go I'm kinda enjoying this...

It won't.

This year basically has a huge signing bonus and then it's a 4 year deal with 60 million remaining and 20 million guaranteed.

The reason why no one else does this is because 99% of players would throw a pissy fit after their pay dropped that much and demand a new deal. However, Brees is smart, will save the money, and will not have this issue.

I actually thought it as a smart move on the Saints part.

At the same time, though, Jahri Evans and Jabari Greer both restructured so their deals are likely going to be for more money next year. Thomas Morstead will also have to be re-signed next year as well as Brian De La Puente, if the team feels he's the answer at center, and Jermon Bushrod if the team doesn't think Marcel Jones can step up at LT in year 2.
