Default 2006 season greatest heist in NFL history?

Was enjoying my coffee and reading this nice article on Champ Bailey this morning..

http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci...dy-be-champion

Quote:
In perhaps Bailey's greatest season, 2006, quarterbacks threw at him only 35 times. He intercepted 10 of those passes, allowing only four receptions. That's right, four.

"He should have been the defensive MVP in 2005 and 2006, especially 2006," said Andrew Mason, a longtime statistics analyst of the NFL. "The best play from a cornerback in my lifetime. Insane stuff."
I always knew he was robbed that year(of defensive player of the year and maybe mvp consideration), and he did some incredible stuff. But thinking about those numbers, especially in this generation, those are the most incredible defensive numbers I have seen from a Corner or maybe defensive player in general. Hoping he get his win tonight.

Is there a better season from a corner? Was anyone more robbed than him? Im having a hard time thinking of anyone.

I'm sure there were debates about which DBs made AP 1st team All-Pro, but I doubt there's been many corners that fans and analysts feel was unfairly passed over for DPOTY.

It sucks that Champ dogged it his last year in Washington. Skins fans literally never saw the consistent, elite player he became in Denver.

Who won it that year, BTW??

So 35 passes went his way, only four were completed, and TEN were intercepted. I'm having a hard time even wrapping my head around those numbers.

That was definitely one of the most one sided trades in league history.

Wasn't Clinton Portis considered one of the best running backs for a couple years?

Not a hall of famer like Bailey, but still.

By rushing for 1,516 yards in 2005, he became only the third runner in league history to reach 1,500 yards in three of his first four seasons. He also became the only player besides O.J. to rush for 120 yards or more in 5 straight games twice in a career. Clinton was also the youngest to reach 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000 & 6,000 rush yards in a career. I'd say that trade wasn't as one sided as some of you may think.

In hindsight, sure. Clinton Portis was a best when that trade went down, though. He looked as good as Adrian Peterson.

A big thing about those 10 ints were near half of them were in the red zone and directly took points off the board. Bailey got robbed on DPoY.

Shanahan shoulda traded for def players every year. He could turn a walmart greeter into a thousand yard rusher, but couldnt identify an elite def prospect if they walked up and kicked him in his rat mouth.

If Clinton Portis had stayed with Denver we'd be talking about him as a HOF. He was rushing for 1,500 yards on 270 rushes. For the redskins he was up to 350 rushes.

One thing also people forget about Portis is how good he was at pass pro. Guy would crush LB's

No doubt. Portis was a great RB beyond the system in Denver. He really got run into the ground in Washington.
