It's damn near impossible to predict the exact score of a game. Especially when it's a 38 point blowout. I beat the spread and I'll take that everytime.

Tennessee is 23 in the AP poll and College Gameday will be in Knoxville this week for the UT/Florida game.

Exciting stuff.

They would do fine, but they would still be the 3rd or 4th best team in the conference on a yearly basis.

The SEC outside of Alabama and LSU is nothing impressive at all this year, nor was it last year. The depth simply isn't there like it was a few years ago.

You're never going to have more than a couple of tier-1 teams in a conference per year anyways. I think we'll see as the season progresses if a few more teams can step up and provide more depth.

I think Georgia might be pretty close, and MSU, UT, and maybe a couple of others can get there.

Georgia's win last night was pretty impressive. Once they get a couple of those starters on D back from suspension, and if those receivers keep developing... watch out.

Sure, those teams are solid, but Ohio State couldn't compete against them? Please. Michigan State already beat Georgia last year.

Nobody outside of SEC homers and the uninformed actually think the league is what it was even a few years ago, when it was legitimately strong from top to (almost) bottom. Right now, it's Alabama/LSU and a few good but not great teams.

I'm just saying that if OSU were to get into the SEC I could see it being consistently

1) Bama
2) LSU
3) Georgia/OSU
4) South Carolina/OSU

Never getting into the top 2 but consistently 3rd or 4th.

I never once mentioned Ohio State. I was strictly referring to the conference's depth as it stands this season.

What conference is currently deeper than the SEC?

When you measure the SEC teams against LSU or Alabama they don't quite measure up, but they're still better than the best teams from any other conference.

The SEC went 8-2 last year in games with teams from other conferences where both teams were ranked. The only 2 losses were both by Georgia, who lost to Boise St. and Michigan St. Arkansas beat Texas A&M and Kansas St., while South Carolina destroyed Clemson (the ACC champion) and Nebraska.

The SEC went 6-2 in 2010 in games against teams from other conferences where both teams were ranked. The only losses were Arkansas in a squeaker to an Ohio St. team full of ineligible players in the Sugar Bowl, and South Carolina lost to Florida St.

Again in 2009, the SEC went 3-2 in games against teams from other conferences where both teams were ranked. And again, Georgia lost to Oklahoma St. and LSU lost to Penn St. by 2 points.

In 2008 the SEC went 5-2 in games against teams from other conferences where both teams were ranked. And AGAIN, Georgia lost to Georgia Tech in a rivalry game by a field goal, and Alabama lost to an undefeated Utah team in the Sugar Bowl that was the best team in the country that year outside of the Florida Gators who won the national title. Florida is the only team in the country that could've beaten that 2008 Utah team.

I can go on, and you definitely don't want to see how many ranked teams from other conferences were beaten by unranked SEC teams.

Right, but the conversation was about whether Ohio State would get thumped in the SEC, so....

Texas A&M is now in the SEC, so throw that games out, as well as Bama and LSU, and you're looking at 3-2. Not bad, but dominant? No.

I'm sure you could go on, but my point is that the SEC isn't what it was even a few years ago, so it would be pretty much irrelevant.

Also, Louisiana-Monroe.

Ok, well to answer your question, I'd hold the Big 12 minus Texas & Oklahoma against the SEC minus Alabama & LSU. The SEC has more strong teams, but the Big 12 has less cupcakes. Kansas is really the only bad team in the Big 12.

Also, Louisiana-Monroe.

Teams like UL-Monroe are full of SEC reject recruits. That's what these teams are made of. Same with Jacksonville St. who beat Ole Miss in Oxford a couple years ago. Same with Appalachian St. who went to the bighouse and beat Michigan.

They grow up on the brand of football that is in the south. Trust me, when these little programs like this pull off big upsets, someone in the south still gets to brag. They're former high school teammates of many of the SEC teams they upset and grew up together.

I can guarantee you that the SEC is still as strong as it ever was top to bottom and the rest of the season will bear that out like it always does.

Nothing about your post makes any sense at all. Because Arkansas lost to a team from the South, that still makes the SEC as good as ever? I just...seriously, you realize you're a walking stereotype, no?

The Big 12 is really helped out there by only having ten teams, though. If you drop say Vandy, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Auburn I think the SEC's top ten teams are better than the Big 12's ten.

By the end of the season I think there will be ten SEC bowl teams, and 8 or 9 Big 12 bowl teams.

We'll see. :)

If you drop those four teams, you'd have a lot more losses for the other SEC teams because they would be playing each other instead of picking off wins against the bad SEC teams. SEC fans always want to talk about the strength of their conference overall but are really only talking about, tops, 5 or 6 teams at a time. The best are fans of teams like Ole Miss who talk **** about being in the SEC, as if that was an accomplishment by itself.

Also, if your projection is correct, that would mean the Big 12 is the stronger overall conference, since 80-90% of the conference would make a bowl game as opposed to 71% (10/14)

Same as you are a walking stereotype. Except most of us are proud of the stereotype given to us by yanks who don't understand football. It's a pleasure to physically dominate 'em every chance we get.

What I'm trying to tell you is that the entire fiber of the SEC conference and the brand of football that it plays, it's makeup, is a direct reflection of the very culture that you like to insult and stereotype.

It's the culture that the SEC goes out and plays for on the football field every Saturday. It's a proud football tradition that is part of who we are going all the way down through the high school level and into pee-wee football. We're proud of the athletic achievements of our smaller programs too. They're still our kids. Some of 'em get SEC scholarships, some don't.

I can guarantee you that there's a lot of happy people throughout the SEC region after UL-Monroe upset Arkansas. Not necessarily Razorback fans.

SEC fans can stomach that loss much more than they would at the hands of a Ohio St., for example. Then nobody is happy.

I pull for Southern Miss and Troy just as hard as I pull for Alabama because I have family ties to both of those universities that are just as strong as my ties to The Capstone.

One day you might understand what I'm trying to tell you.

You're confusing the SEC, which is an athletic conference, and the South, which is a geographical region of the United States. Does the SEC also get credit for the 1996 Olympics and Coca-Cola?

If so, the North is much better than the South at football, since they've won way more Superbowls.

Also, the only "cupcake" in the SEC is Kentucky or possibly Ole Miss. Kentucky makes up for it with their basketball championships because they're a basketball school. All they really want to see anyway is a 6-6 football team and they're fine as long as the basketball program is winning.

As down as Ole Miss is right now, they still manage to put 40 point beatdowns on WAC teams like Fresno St. that everyone was always so impressed with Boise St. going undefeated against every year.

I mean, if I were a team wanting to pencil in 2 or 3 easy wins ahead of time, I would certainly choose 2 or 3 cupcakes from the Big-12 before I would choose 2 or 3 from the SEC.

Well no because most of the players who won those superbowls for the north played college football in the south and/or are from the south. The Mannings, Bart Starr, Joe Namath, Walter Payton, Jerry Rice, Brett Favre, etc., etc.

The north has more pro football than the south anyway. Professional football takes a backseat to college football and even high school football in the state of Texas and all throughout the south. It's been that way for 100 years and will be that way for 100 more.

Just look at that $60 million high school football stadium the community just voted to pay for in Texas... it might be the nicest stadium in Texas short of Jerry-World.

Oh, I'm sorry, you thought I was taking your ridiculous premise and trying to make an actual discussion out of it. Sarcasm.

Nobody is arguing that the South produces better football players. Of course they do. But the SEC can't take credit for UL-Monroe. That's absolutely absurd.

Also, the primary reason why there are less pro sports in the South is because historically the South has been poor and rural as ****. Not a great market for pro sports.
