Never thought of it. But not a bad idea. If Patterson works at his craft he has the potential to be one of the best players out of this draft. If he runs a sub 4.4 he'll be accepted as a top-10 possibility at the very least so why not?...

Hm.

Then part of me says you can never have enough pass rushers and just take Jarvis Jones because he's the best non-OT player available and get creative with the three of them. But he simply could not start so it gets awkward really quick because the other two are young, good and in team control for at least two more years.

I'm having a film crisis with Milliner because I thought I saw a surefire shutdown-capable CB but going back on his film I'm questioning my first instinct.

Then it comes down to Floyd or Star or Richardson.

It's a very odd situation.

I'd be very surprised if John Dorsey decides that Matt Barkley is his franchise QB.

Do we really need to go over draft busts? Does a Raider fan really want to go there?

And there is a very good chance that Tyson Jackson isn't brought back, but I'll tell you this: he's had a much bigger impact on the field than Jamarcus Russell ever did.

If Bowe is re-signed then I don't think Patterson makes a whole lot of sense. If the rumors of Reid loving McCluster are true, then he'll have two WRs there he can work with. Add to the fact that the Chiefs also have Baldwin, Breaston, and the newly drafted Devon Wylie on the roster, WR doesn't seem like it's anywhere close to a need. I wouldn't put it top 10, IF Bowe returns.

The Chiefs already have Eric Berry and Dustin Colquitt. They can't hoard all the good Vols.

I know the Chiefs have talented receivers already, I just think Cordarrelle might end up being the most explosive player in this draft. McCluster and Wylie play in similar roles, but Cordarrelle would be a primary option, rather than an auxiliary player, as the aforementioned are. Think about having Jamaal Charles and Cordarrelle Patterson on the field at the same time. That would be an unprecedented combination of speed for your offense. If you keep Bowe, you're right - you have quality outside receivers already, which allows you to use Cordarrelle however you want to. I know you're a big fan of Geno, but it's also a year where there is a large number of quarterback prospects who have legitimate chances to rise to that "franchise quarterback" level, and if I was thinking about how to maximize the jolt I could put into my offense, what I'm thinking is that the talent level between Cordarrelle and other big-play threats who will be drafted a round later is greater than the gap between Geno and the quarterbacks who will be available at the top of round two.

So if I think of Cordarrelle as a 93 and Geno as an 84, and, say... Denard Robinson is a 76 because he's such a projection... Tavon Austin is an 86, but will probably be gone... the other wideouts available will surely be under 85s as prospects, according to a rough rating scale. But I expect at least one of Glennon, Barkley, Nassib and Tyler Wilson to still be available, and they're all in a 77-83 range. You can snag the 90+ player and still get a good player at the quarterback position. Perhaps not your first choice, but someone you can still feel reasonably confident about and will be an upgrade for your team.

Silence! Make it to a championship in this lifetime and you'll have earned the privilege to argue with me. Until then, embrace your true status as back woods semi-pro franchise that 31 other love to spar against.

I heard a rumor that McCluster F___ was vastly over drafted.

I think Ziggy Ansah will be an option if they are not targeting a QB.

Everyone has been projected #1 overall, so why not Ansah too?

And I don't know much about Patterson, but does it really matter if we draft him without a QB? Nothing matters without a QB.

Is this draft Geno or bust for you?

Maybe I overlooked something somewhere, but I've seen countless ideas get thrown at you and you shoot every one of them down dead. Obviously a trade would be the best option, but that's a major long shot considering there really is no clear cut #1 prospect this year and the fact that the #1 pick has NEVER been traded beforehand (and then the famous Rivers/Manning switch).

Is there ANYBODY else that the Chiefs take #1 over Geno?

If we waste the first overall pick on a OT (Joeckel) or a DL AGAIN (Star) then this franchise is gutless.Take a freaking chance on a QB instead of going the safe route

Yeah, I don't really see any smoke screens Dorsey could be trying to create with that quote. It is a GM quote in February though, doesn't mean much but I do think it gives some insight.

He goes on record saying there is no definite 1st round QB, but say he ends up drafting a QB #1. I guess he could say Geno impressed him with interviews and at the pro day. Doesn't close the door on anything yet. I just don't know if I can see a GM saying there isn't a clear cut 1st round QB and then end up drafting one #1 overall.

QB's started for KC since Trent Green:

Damon Huard
Brodie Croyle
Tyler Palko
Kyle Orton
Matt Cassel
Brady Quinn
Tyler Thigpen

no better case can be made as to why KC must go QB in RD 1

Honestly, there are very few positions that make sense for the Chiefs at #1. Now, free agency will have a HUGE impact in what the Chiefs ultimately decide to do, but right now, there just aren't a ton of options.

If Bowe and Albert are kept, WR and OT aren't needs. If they're not, it opens the door to a ton of different scenarios. If Albert walks, the pick will be Joeckel. If Bowe walks, it could be Patterson.

But there is no RB worth a top pick, I don't think you should take a CB at #1 unless he's an otherworldly talent, we don't need an OLB (we have Tamba and JHou manning those spots).. it's just a really weird draft for the Chiefs to have the #1 pick.

The only other pick that makes the least bit of sense right now is Star, because Glenn Dorsey is probably gone and Tyson Jackson will have to restructure or be gone too, so 3-4 DE is a huge glaring need, but would that really impact the team more than a QB?

To answer your question, no, it isn't Geno or bust, but QB makes the most sense when the rest of our needs (right now) don't line up with the top of the draft.

That's a really funny list. Until you realize it's actually true. Then it becomes just sad.

I assume you'd have Foles in that situation. Foles with Bowe,Patterson and Baldwin plus Moeaki,Charles and DMC, that's not too shabby. Good OL too.

You can't take Patterson #1, but in a trade down, it'd be interesting.

The problem is there will be no suitor to take the #1 pick.

here's whats gonna happen:

Bowe gets resigned. Albert signs with the Bears or Rams.

Geno looks good but not great at Indy, moments of greatness, moments of crap. (like his college career)

Andy trades for Foles (a conditional 3 that becomes a 2 based on triggers)

Albert will be more expensive than Joeckel, who goes one.

the Chiefs can look for Geno (or whoever) at the flip flop early rd 2.

I come back to this thread for an I told you so in early May.

We don't know anything for sure, but that doesn't look very likely.

no better case can be made as to why KC must go QB in RD 1
Nick Foles is better than all those guys and he's perfect for Andy's offense. No one throws that little dink to the RB better. He's really accurate in short passing... some would call him captain checkdown, but he has the ability to make all the throws. this time next year Chiefs fans will love him.
