Default Jameis Winston Not Only Problem @ FSU: Teachers Lament

A must read for any cfb fan.

Touches on serious issues, some FSU specific, some others very likely occurring on most football factory campuses.

Top level college football is minor league pro sports. It's asking a lot to expect a scholarship football player at a school like Alabama or FSU to be a fulltime student and a fulltime football player.

The horror stories noted in this article are minor considering the OMG anecdotes I've heard about players from other top programs over the years.

I don't know if high level football attracts a percentage of psychopathic personalities, or if the culture of high level football turns some young men into predators and arrogant SOBs, but all those stories about FSU are commonplace.

I won't be shocked to find out Jameis Winston raped this chick, but I will be surprised.

I'll never understand why some athletes pursue disinterested women when there a 100 females who will give it up to them any night of the week with smiling faces.

It's going to be interesting going forward to watch how the Winston situation plays out.

Seems like this writer is trying to piggyback this controversy to some extra hits. Anybody could completely make this story up because they don't have to provide anything to back this kind of info up.

The writer isn't anonymous and was at FSU teaching during the period he claims he was. With his name on it, he'd have to be pretty stupid to make that stuff up. It would be a major embarrassment for him if he did make it up and with his name on it it'd be pretty easy to look into and disprove. Also I don't think Deadspin would publish that without looking at his past and verifying he was in fact a teacher like he said and they might've spoken to the people in his story as well for verification.

Also pretty sure the DB he refers to is Lamarcus Joyner, he made a big play in the Champs Sports Bowl and is a DB.

I heard a new theory today the reason Tallahassee law enforcement is delaying whether or not to bring charges against Winston is because they do(!!) intend to file a rape charge against him.

By waiting until after the NC game, he still gets to play and FSU completes for the BCS title.

If he's charged now, he's automatically ineligible.

It's not like they're collecting new evidence(law enforcement has been sitting on this case for over a year), for a DA it's an open and shut decision whether or not to bring charges against Winston.

I believe he's going to be charged AFTER the BCS title game, conditionally kicked off the team, be acquitted during a trial late in the summer of 2014, reinstated by FSU and possibly starting the 2014 season for the Seminoles.

The delay in charging Winston only makes sense if law enforcement eventually plans to charge him with a crime.

Do they normally hold press conferences to announce no charges will be filed?

IMO that's not a good sign, however I could see a press conference going either way, charges or not.

If Winston isn't charged, the DA may want to explain there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute despite claims of sexual assault.

If Winston IS charged, you know there damn well better be a LOOOOOONGG presser explaining to everyone in Tallahassee why the local PD decided to blow up FSU's dream season.

It sucks that the alleged victim is a sideline story in this entire episode.

If they're holding a press conference, it's unlikely he's charged. When they plan to charge someone, they usually go right ahead and do so without fanfare, and let the case explain all the details. Press conferences are generally used because if they're deciding not to charge them, there are going to be a lot of questions that people will want answered, and thus the press conference is called.

This is weird. Don't they usually just wait and then say, "He's been charged" or not charged as soon as they know? This doesn't appear to be the justice system at its best. Wait a year and they hurry up and conclude a reopened investigation ASAP so the guy can win a Heisman. ****** up.

Like I said, the press conference is a pretty good indication that he won't be charged, as the only reason to call one would be to go ahead and answer all the questions as to why that decision was reached. If they planned to charge him, they'd be able to answer the questions in the court case itself, and a press conference would be unnecessary.

You guys are wrong, this is going to be like a recruit announcement ceremony. The police chief is going to be sitting at a table behind a football on his right and handcuffs on his left, and for 30-45 mins he will talk about what went on from start to finish, thank the media for their assistance, and finally end with the decision as Winston steps out from behind the stage.

The suspense will be if he initially picks up the football, only to toss it well over Winston's head and picks up the handcuffs.

Either way this is a messed up situation, but if this really was consensual and she just lied to feel like less of a ***** than that is a damn shame. I know it happens often but that is just such an easy way to ruin someones life just to make herself feel like less of a skank. Oh well, I am going to wait and see what they have to say when more information comes out.

Either way this is a character issue going forward. If they don't charge him then give him the benefit of the doubt but teams are going to think what they want to think about the face of the franchise.

I usually say they're only kids so let them make some stupid mistakes but you're sitting on a gold mine, don't blow it.

So, was this a case of male-on-female-on-male threesome action?

"Several people in the room when the event occured", more than one set of DNA, but didn't belong to witnesses.

"Meggs said prosecutors didn't charge because they didn't think they could get a conviction."

BTW please keep any jokes or judgements about anything out of this thread/board please.

If several people witnessed the event, I can see a situation where she started to sober up and became ashamed of what happened which led to her claim of rape.

I don't deny the person is a real person.

But these types of allegations are completely off hand and impossible to prove. I, as a former FSU student could say "In my class I saw these guys getting preferential treatment." No one could disprove me because these are just off the cuff type of things I would be claiming. There is absolutely no doubt why the person wrote that story at that time...to piggyback the Jameis Winston media frenzy.

Also being a teacher at FSU could very easily be a TA. Not a hard position to get for grad students.

We're talking about the same Deadspin that broke the Manti Teo story with numerous inconsistencies and false information.

I love teachers who love football and its players. I swear some of my teachers hated the **** out of me just because I played football

Just picking nits, but the writer identifies themself as faculty and I don't believe TAs count as faculty. In all likelihood, this is a professor and **** like this happens everywhere. To think it doesn't is incredibly naive.

For the most part I think that Deadspin was praised for finding and reporting the Manti Teo story. The only big problem with their story was at one point they insinuated using an unnamed source that he was in on the hoax, and that was one line of the story. The Manti Teo story shouldn't discredit Deadspin, but that's another issue.

If he was a TA then I don't think he would have multiple people reporting to him. And yes, if the Winston charges hadn't occurred this story definitely would never have never been written, but in light of the Winston charges the author felt that his experiences with FSU athletics were relevant and represented a bigger picture than what was in the media.
