Small hands does not automatically mean you can't catch.

Exactly right. Ryan Swope has very small hands, but he might catch the ball better than any other receiver in the draft. He seldom drops anything despite taking a lot of big hits. Kinesthetic sense is more important than a couple tenths of an inch when it comes to catching the football.

The comparisons to Julio Jones are laughable

They have similar body types, but that's about where the comparison ends.

Really? I've seen Swope drop plenty. Not to the point where he should be known for it, but I wouldn't put him in that "best in class" category.

The National Football Post, where Michael Lombardi worked, is trying to hurt Patterson's stock, and Lombardi is a height/weight/speed guy like Al Davis. It smells like Patterson to the Browns at #6.

What did this guy do to get such ridiculous hype? Be tall and fast? Big whoop, that's a dime a dozen in the NFL.

Easily the most overrated prospect in this draft. Julio Jones was a monster as a true freshman and kept it up for three years. This guy does it once and with similar height/speed and he's got it wrapped up?

Hope the Jets avoid the crap out of him.

It's that open field agility and vision that has intrigued me.

Especially at his size.

Lol. Yea your right, he's just big and fast. Doesn't have anything to do with the numerous records he broke in the SEC, or his incredible lateral agility and vision. You sound like you haven't watched one single game of his before. It's fine to not be a fan but when you say he's just tall and fast you sound like you've never seen him play.

What records did he break?

The record for LEAST amount of production (yards/TDs) for a high first round pick prospect?

Let's keep in mind that against defenses that had their top corner shift to cover the top receiver, he didn't face the #1 corner...Hunter did. But he's being talked about as sneaking into the top ten while Hunter is being called a late 2nd/early 3rd guy?

A lot of his dancing around isn't going to work against pro defenders. I think he's going to be a plus return man right away, but will need a lot of work with his position coach. I think in the end, the best place for him is as the impact slot man that people think Tavon Bustin is. He could abuse the holy hell out of some linebackers and safeties. Hunter is the guy who will eventually be a good split end...but someone is probably going to spend a lot of time trying to make Patterson a lesser one instead of using him in the middle of the field.

I do like them both as prospects...in the second round. They both need work: Hunter on his hands and gaining 10-15 pounds of good weight; Patterson on his hands and general WR skills. I strongly doubt either one breaks out as some 1000+ yard impact receiver in year one or two.

Awesome joke! But to answer your question:

- SEC single season record for combined kickoff and punt return average per return at 27.6 per attempt
- Set school record with 28 yards per kickoff return which is also 2nd highest in SEC history
- Set the school record for most all purpose yardage in a season with 1,858

I never said any of those things will amount to how good of an NFL WR he'll be but to act like the only thing he's done is be tall and fast

I really like Justin Hunter, and his combine showed that he may be back to 100%, he may have been playing afraid to test his knee fully, but I think he's going to be a good pro. But the reasons Patterson is going to go much higher is the same reason we see every year; upside. When it works out, like JPP, everybody is sees the gamble of upside, but if he doesn't pan out he wasn't the first and won't be the last guy to be pushed up due to upside.

He's got traits that you can't teach, he's got an uncanny ability of running with the ball in his hands, to walk into the SEC(probably expecting to be a role player anyway so not sure why we should hold it against him that he didn't destroy all the best CB's in the SEC coming from JUCO) and be able to make defenders look silly is a remarkable feat. The hard part is going to be teaching him everything you have to do before you catch the ball, but if you get him into space his game translates. He's nowhere near as stiff as Tedd Ginn was who was a straight line guy, that's obvious. He's not a natural doing the little things but that's what coaching is for.

I expect his first few years to be similiar to Dez. He was held in much higher regard and it took him 3 years to get his route running down, the mental side, the consistency, but since day 1 he showed flashes and put points on the board. Patterson is going to come in and produce points immediately, and he is a threat everytime he gets the ball in his hands. You can't say the same for Hunter, that's the difference in value. I'm a fan of both, well really all 3 former Vols WR's, they had some talent. But Patterson has special traits most WR's don't have and I think the areas he is raw in isn't that big of a deal.

Was he more raw at running routes, catching the ball, or the fundamentals of the WR position compared to DHB? Did he not all have the same areas of concern? So why is it such a big deal for Patterson when he has so much more to bring to the table then both of them? And even if Al Davis didn't take him at 7 he was going to go early. Torry Smith was raw in all the same areas and he was coached up and developed and was taught, he still doesn't catch the ball like a natural either.

I don't think he should be put in the same sentence as Dez. You can say whatever you want about what Dez had to work on, but in college, he was in a completely different league from Patterson. I think we should continue sticking with the Jacoby Jones comparison for Patterson until proven otherwise.

Really, I know it's a team game, but with Bray, Patterson, and Hunter on the team, you would think the Vols would have done a lot better. I'd be kind of weary of any of them.

I agree with that, didn't want to compare them as prospects because I disagree with him even being compared to Julio. I just see the type of impact of him in his first few years being some big plays and TD's spread out with inconsistency.

His cuts are just so nasty. I am a huge gator fan and watched every game Percy played. Patterson to me is a Percy mold. Taller and bigger coming out. Not a polished WR at all and neither was Percy, they are playmakers. Find a way to get him the ball and good things can happen.

Percy didnt really break out into a good WR till he had Brett there. Now his unpolished WRs coming out are not a problem and other than his medical **** he always was an asset t that offense.

Patterson is just too dynamic of a player to not go in round one. You just cant coach that raw ability he has. You can always get better at running routes and catching the ball.

All this production talk gets so blown up at times. Yes everyone loves #s but in some cases other things are just more important, like this one.
