Apparently the Eagles are right there with the Packers in that they have 0 losses, just a handful of "beaten ourselves."

What is it with this trend of players discrediting the other team by claiming they beat themselves? It gets on my nerves.
I can't stand when players do this. DRC's a knucklehead so it doesn't surprise me that it was him to come out and say it.

The Eagles right now are a bad team, plain and simple. However they do have some great players on both sides of the ball. The defense is in flux because we have a fill-in at DC, but don't forget that this was a very solid unit at the beginning of the season.

Our offense right now is atrocious, the offensive line is likely the worst in the NFL. That has led to us running a lot of plays out of the shotgun so Foles doesn't get killed as the pocket collapses almost immediately and made it more difficult to commit to the running game. So our offense is about as impotent as it gets which isn't helping out our defense (who look like they don't want to be out there anyway). Reid's gone after this season and everyone knows it so this team is just going to limp through this season, probably secure a top pick (~5) and clean house in the offseason.

So while this team doesn't have a dearth of talent, it's still a terrible team right now. Sorry DRC, the Redskins kicked your butt and that's probably going to be a recurring theme for the rest of this season.

KC vs. this Eagles team would be a very close matchup.

I even understand it a little from the players but when McCarthy and Harbaugh were saying it 6 months later I couldn't believe it. GB was killed in that game.

Well how much contact is allowed on quarterbacks during the regular season in practice anyways?

None. But there is a test regarding it any player with a concussion has to pass before being cleared. He didn't pass it.

Obviously. I just think it was weird he was allowed to return to practice and take all the first team snaps all week.

If he indeed took all the reps. Practices are mostly closed to the media. Perhaps it was gamesmanship in not tipping their cap.

All that matters is what happens tonight.

Most teams have punters, QBs, and injured players in a different colored jersey (the Patriots use red instead of the usual white and blue). Those are "do not touch" jerseys.

At the senior bowl, Cameron Jordan nearly got kicked out because he touched one. That's basically how it works all of the time.

Every team is competitive and doesn't want to admit defeat. Also, they are coached to believe that every team can be beaten if you exploit their (easily exploitable) weaknesses. So when a team doesn't do it, they feel let down.

It's hard to admit defeat when a coach has you convinced you had a (good) chance to win.

Credit the other ******* team. That is all I ask. Every week it seems like someone from some team claims to have beaten themselves. Look at the example statement I gave shortly after that for something they could say.

The players that do this are nothing but the sorest losers.

I can understand a team who misses a 27-yard field goal and an extra point and loses by 3 saying you beat yourself. But they have lost their last four games by 13, 15, 15, & 25. Those aren't close games where a few mental lapses creates the loss. These are ass kickings.

Well yes the point is moot now. I just hope it isn't a lingering issue going against New Orleans next week.

Kaepernick makes me nervous. Should be interesting.

Wish the Steelers had a real backup. Not sure how Lefty ever got drafted throwing the ball like that.

And Charlie Batch will be the next man up this week. That can't end well. Even if it is the Browns.

The “we beat ourselves” mantra is trite, but it’s been ingrained in football players to feel that way. Coaches even teach it. Call it the “winner’s attitude” and label anything else as defeatist. I believe in Urban Meyer’s playbook, one of his basic philosophies is something along the lines of, “You didn’t lose. You just ran out of time.” As creatures of confidence, players believe in that idea. It’s easier to accept than being beaten because self-doubt is the worst thing that can happen to athlete. No one wants to admit that their best just wasn’t good enough. Doesn’t make it right or less aggravating, but it’s not going to change either.
