Week 7-- Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cincinnati Bengals
Big time game against our mortal enemy on the big stage? Gotta be excited about this one. Could really help our playoff chances with a win against a quality opponent, and a division opponent no less.
Looks like Kirkpatrick actually has a chance to play although I'd be surprised if he does. Marvin seems to be really impressed with his recovery/work ethic which is very encouraging. Only thing that can really hold that guy back is his attitude and if his head is right he could be a HUGE boost to this D on the back end. Could even be a S for us down the line if need be.
Anyway, Defensively this is going to be a huge test for this squad. If we can stop Mendenhall and get to/contain Ben in the pocket it's going to go a long way in helping our chances. It worries me with some of their deep threats and that horse in the backfield but we seem to be improving in our run fits from week to week. We should be able to get a decent pass rush going against this line but whenever you're dealing with Ben that can be a double edged sword with his ability to move around and elude pressure. Going to be tough but I think we will be fine if we can avoid giving up those big plays.
Offensively we really just need to continue doing what we're doing except we have to be able to convert on third down with more regularity. The WRs have had some trouble getting open when AJ is taken out of the picture, hopefully they can do better in that department this week. Would like to see more of Mohamed Sanu and/or Marvin Jones if at all possible. Perhaps the rest Baby Hawk was given this week will help him as well.
I think the OL has looked rather good in pass pro especially with that young interior. A lot of the sacks we have been giving up seem to be coverage sacks more than anything else. Whitworth had probably his worst game since he was a pup last week. I know he's dealing with a knee problem but he is our rock and he must get back into his groove this week against James Harrison. They don't have Polamalu and their secondary isn't much so I expect AJ to have a field day. That said, we will need a consistent run game to exploit that mismatch.

Big character game for us. I really want us to make a statement and erase any memories that O have from our last 2 games. Steelers are always tough as we all know.
Is this team really going to be about a 60% pass offense? I just dont know if this is by design or necessary because we cant mount a serious run threat? Is anyone thinking drafting a RB is a certainty with one of our top picks, I do.

We need to come out and play offensively like we did against the Redskins. Ou offense has looked the best against them. At least the pass that is. We really need to establish the run and honestly with our backfield we arent going to. We need to do something different. Switch Hawkins in at RB sometimes and see if he can bust one. He has good field vision and can make moves. Maybe he can light a fire. Yea I know he is tiny, but he isnt much smaller than Darren Sproles...maybe he can be used in a Sproles like situation.
If this team isn't going to be using much run we need to properly utilize screens and short yardage plays more often. We need to be running RB's out in pass patterns and trying to get small yardage in order to open up big yardage plays.

Possibility in drafting an RB. Also Free Agency could be a possibility. These are possible FA RB's in the offseason.
Felix Jones – DAL
Rashard Jennings – JAC
Reggie Bush – MIA
Chris Ivory – NO
Shonn Greene – NYJ
Rashard Mendenhall – PIT
Stevan Jackson – STL
Javon Ringer – TEN

I fully expect Wallace or Brown to have a monster game. Which ever one Newman is covering.

Wouldn't a more accurate statement be "whichever one gets covered by our safeties"

Newman hasn't been that bad for a NB who has been asked to be a #2.
Nelson and whomever has been at SS all year have been giving up big plays all year.

Well when you have slow Nate Clements back there that has never played safety expect for this year, Dumbass Taylor Mays and Special Team Miles as the only options what do you expect.

I wouldnt be opposed to running a defense with 1 safety and extra LB/CB if we have to lol.

Might as well just run the 3-3-5 since the Bengals hardly get pressure anyway and just use 1 safety and 4 corners.

That game made Michael Johnson a bunch of money. Some team will think he gets consistent pass rush. I just hope that team is not Cincinnati.

Dont worry. His being invisible every game since should have quelled such talk.

If someone is dumb enough to give Nate Livings a decent contract with his crappy tape, then I could easily see some dumb team give Michael Johnson top 10 DE money. But Michael Johnson picked off Brandon Weeden!

If the Bengals could just go DE, S, and RB combo with the 1st Round and 2 2nd Rounders. I will be very happy on draft day.

It would be nice to see what Moch can do on the field. With all the measurables he has, I think there is a chance that he make an impact for us at DE. But I am not sure because he hasnt played at all. Supposedly he put on 20#'s to help him deal with OT size. probably wishing for too much.

Well Kirkpatrick and Allen again inactive tonight. I am glad I have Mike Wallace and Heath Miller on my fantasy team.

1st half was great until the final Steeler drive when our defense completely softened. Horrible offensive gameplan and Marvin's ineptitude to use his challenges ruined our chances in the 2nd half. Ugh.

Hopefully someone hires Jay Gruden in the off season. Three straight weeks of crappy game plans.

it isn't Gruden.
We dont have a RB who can do anything but between the tackles.
We dont have a WR who can get open that isn't AJ.

Some of it is. You take no shots down field and basically let Pittsburgh play up on the line the entire game. Predicable playcalling does not help either when a majority of the time you just run it on 1st down.

There were no shots to take!
The safety lined up 20 yards deep right over AJ.
Not another WR on this roster can go deep. None.

You have to least take some down the field just to keep the defense honest even if nothing is there.
