For me, this pretty much confirms what I had expected. If this ND line were true, he was really just hoaxed and is nothing more than an innocent victim, I can see little reason to cancel the interview.

Yet, even before the Michigan State game, Manti Te’o was being questioned by his teammates. Apparently Manti had only “seen” Lennay once — but I assume “seen” was a rather loose term used for “chatted with online” (however, this is extremely complicated to understand since they were reportedly talking since 2009, according to the Te’o family). The debate among teammates wasn’t whether or not Manti actually knew this girl — it was clear that they had been in contact; no, players just didn’t think that it was fair to call Lennay Kekua Manti’s girlfriend, period (it is well-known on campus that he has had relations with other girls during his time at Notre Dame). They recognized what was going on for what it was — a terrible publicity stunt used to fuel Manti Te’o's Heisman campaign. In fact, many of the players privately commented that they didn’t want the students to wear leis in support of Manti and wouldn’t participate themselves — they cited that the team never responded so publicly to tragic events for other players. But there was also the feeling that Manti didn’t deserve to benefit from publicity from the death of somebody he barely knew

If he's not crazy and he's not stupid and he's not *** and the whole thing was just something that he did as a publicity stunt, then he's still batshit insane. Who does something like that?

I'm sure I missed it, but have the police been involved? If it's really a scam, law enforcement would have been notified before the presser.

Conveniently, Notre Dame hired a private investigator instead of going to the police. So there's no paper trail or documentation that anybody has access to.

Here's the thing that everyone is forgetting. If Notre Dame can hire a private firm, who says NFL teams can't?

Better yet, why can't the media who wants first dibs on getting the information on this juicy story, why wouldn't THEY hire a private firm to find out the truth?

The truth is gonna come out. There's no way to hide it anymore. We'll find out soon enough.

For Te'o's sake, he better come clean and tell everyone the truth, bc he can't hide it anymore.

Found this on another board and sums things up well

Sifting through it all, I've concluded it's highly unlikely Te'o wasn't in on the hoax.

If he wasn't part of it, then the amount of b.s. he perpetrated on the media and the public in exaggerating his relationship with the woman is just as bad as if he were in on it. Actually, it probably makes it worse, and borders on sociopathy.

The main reason it's highly unlikely Te'o wasn't in on it is: The guy who it's now been discovered was behind the concoction of the girlfriend is a family friend of Te'o's. There are texts between this guy, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, and Te'o, that puts them in contact with each other. It's highly suspicious that they're friends and Tuiasosopo was "catfishing" him.

But let's just assume that it's true, that Tuiasosopo catfished Te'o. If Te'o is going to stick to the story that he was duped, then there is an overwhelming amount of damning evidence that his behavior borders on sociopathic.

If he does claim innocence on the hoax, here are a few of the things that are going to be pinned on him:

-- Te'o lied about meeting the woman at Stanford
-- His family lied about seeing her in Hawaii
-- Unless Tuiasosopo put up a woman to act as the girlfriend on phone calls, some going on for 8 hours and overnight, Te'o lied about the phone calls. No woman, to date, has been found to have been used for phone calls.
-- Te'o said he sent roses to her funeral. Unless Tuiasosopo rented a mortuary so Te'o could send the roses there, Te'o lied about that.
-- He lied about calling the hospital to talk to her, since it's doubtful that Tuiasosopo would have gone as far to admit a woman as a patient in a hospital and have her undergo chemo treatments so that Te'o would be able to call the hospital and get her room.
-- Unless Tuiasosopo employed a man to pose at the girlfriend's brother, Te'o lied about the woman's brother calling him to inform him that she had died.

It can go on and on.

Also, if you watch any video of Te'o talking about her, he's so over-the-top about it, and talks about how much they've shared outside of an online relationship. Anyone who can make up all of the stories he related on camera about talking to her on the phone and their constant interaction, which, even if he was catfished, were exaggerations by Te'o, leads you to believe that he's highly duplicitous, and it's by far more likely that any person like that was in on the hoax rather than being innocent.

As I said, if Te'o is going to insist he wasn't in on the hoax, once the media starts breaking it down and analyzing it, and piling on all of the lies in media story after story, he's going to look far creepier as the guy who exaggerated the relationship to such lengths than the guy who was in on the hoax.
