Like Calvin Johnson or somebody in a year or two.

I don't know how anyone could be annoyed at him. Playing for the Lions is his job, if he wants to retire he is perfectly entitled to do that.

People get super hypocritical when it comes to athletes.

I wouldn't think negatively towards the player. It's their body that is taking a beating, and if they feel like they don't got it in them anymore, then it is pretty noble of them to retire instead of just collecting a paycheck.

Even if it was a Buffalo Bill, I wouldn't be angry. Aaron Schobel did the same thing a few years back, retired at age of 30 after a double digit sack season. I obviously wanted him to keep playing, but it didn't make me mad that he decided to retire after thinking it over in the offseason.

That being said, I'm only talking about people that retire for the right reasons aka not Ricky Williams.

Why the polarity in public opinion? It's just that. It was seen by the "public." We feel far too much ownership of these players sometimes.

But I'm honest enough to say I'd probably laugh at another team's QB if he did the same thing.
I know swapping jerseys with a player you respect is common practice in the nfl

How is retiring to go and smoke weed on a beach in India not the right reason?

I dont know how it would have felt if I was a Lions fan when Barry Sanders just up and retired... the only thing i can even relate to is John Elway going out on top...but even that was not the same because he was already liked 38 and didnt have much left...

But i think it would piss me off if a player that was a star just up and quit(thats me thinking as a fan) but as a person it makes perfect sense, i mean at that point in time they have made their money and are getting out before they lose their health...

So it would suck if a Bronco like Von Miller or something retired in like 3 or 4 seasons, but from a personal standpoint it makes sense.

With Barry, one of the most interesting unfounded football theories I've ever read on the internet was over at footballoutsiders.com.

A few guys over there noticed that his DVOA and DYAR numbers were at career lows in 1998, despite posting a 1500 yard season. The theory was that Barry noticed a decline in his own skills that hadn't quite translated to an obvious decline in traditional production, so he figured it was time to hang up the cleats.

Don't know how reliable the source is, but it's being reported that Peytons neck is acting up again.

Oh boy - that's the problem with neck/back injuries. They really never go away.

Source is pretty iffy on this, but he did come out and say about 2 months ago that he was having some problems and long-term effects of the neck injury, so take it with a grain of salt.

I think he'll be fine but thought it was at least worth posting

Back in the '90's there was a kicker from Washington that played for the Raiders named Jeff Jaeger. Throughout his career he would get signed memorabilia from players, and when he retired he opened a restaurant called "Jaeger's" and had all the memorabilia displayed.

Alfonzo Dennard arrested for DUI

http://www.1011now.com/home/headline...215046571.html

This offseason is clearly all part of Belichick's master plan to tank for Clowney I can only assume

All the Pats need now to top off the offseason is for Brady to get photographed sniffing coke off a hookers bare ass

Dennard was a pretty damn good player for them too. An under the radar player who produced very well.

But now he's done. He's getting cut.

While we're on the subject, I'm a firm believer that the Patriots are going to quietly have a very good defense this year. Losing Dennard is a big blow to that, but they have a pretty damn good defense on paper right now.

And Bellichick is a coverage guy, so having a guy like Talib, adding Wilson, and McCourty finding a home at FS definitely helps his schemes out. Adding the pass rusher from Missouri adds some sizzle opposite of Chandler Jones, they have a good set of ILBs in Mayo and Spikes, they have a good DL, Wilfork is one of the best DTs in the game.

I wouldn't sleep on this defense.

It sucks he might be put in jail for this if his PO makes it a violation (which lets be honest could go either way...although it is nebraska) but getting cut for "suspicion of DUI" isnt really what i would see happening.

Suspensions could be looming for him, but they should probably wait and see...hes a little punk, but hes not exactly a hardened criminal. We get this picture in our heads that all athletes needs to be choir boys and stay squeaky clean, meanwhile while gronk was being criticized for partying and banging porn stars the quiet hernandez was gunning fools down

I like dennard, but based on what he did punching a cop seems like he made a horrible in the heat of the moment decision, he seems like a belligerent little guy. What gonna hurt him most is this offense was in nebraska as well, which is where he punched the cop (i obviously wasnt there but im aware of how cops are in nebraska, bored and racist lol).

Based on his play on the field they cant really afford to lose him, but i could also see them cutting him to "clean house" with all the bad PR surrounding them. I think hes a great little NB though

gotta admit, Belichick & Patriots doing masterful job of making Tebow on non-story. Very innovative.

Belichek to Tebow "quick Timmy go for a run with your shirt off"

@AdamSchefter 2h
Right about now, the Patriots would welcome all the Tim Tebow questions reporters have.

Herm Edwards on Patriots CB Alfonzo Dennard: "I'd cut him."

The theory was that Barry noticed a decline in his own skills that hadn't quite translated to an obvious decline in traditional production, so he figured it was time to hang up the cleats.
Eh, after reading up on the story and hearing him talk, I'm positive he retired because he didn't want the attention and notoriety of breaking the all-time rushing record. He absolutely hated that kind of attention, so combine that with the constant losing and it was an easy decision for him. I think a decline is natural at the age he was, at least a decline of some sort, but I expected a few more 1200 yard seasons before he was completely finished.

WHO? Or do you mean Mississippi?

They could be a good defense, but I have a hard time seeing them being one of the best in the NFL

Jamie Collins. I forgot what college he plays for.

I can see top 10. I don't expect top 5, but I can see top 10.

It could happen, they were still a pretty decent defense last season. Ranked 9th in points allowed but 25th in yards. The offense does a lot in indicating these stats though both ways, so there's always room for improvement.
