Default Create your own Defensive team

Same deal as the other thread, 11 players run what ever type of defense that you like, eg. 3-4 or 4-3. Also we can add the special teams players so take 1 kicker, 1 punter, and a kick returner.

DE - Luis Castillo - Young defensive end who has played very well for San Diego and is a good pass rusher as he racked up 7 sacks last year.

DT - Tommie Harris - When healthy the Bears defense was amazing, without him last year they were above average. Harris is a monster on the defensive line and should be a Pro Bowler for years to come.

DE - Jason Taylor - the NFL's Defensive Player seems to be getting better and better with age, hopefully his success can continue.

OLB - Terrell Suggs - A young pass rusher who loves to hit, and he racked up 9.5 sacks last season.

MLB - Brian Urlacher - A leader on the field, Urlacher's speed and coverage skills are unmatched by any of today's linebackers.

MLB - Ernie Sims - Was a tackling machine as a rookie for the Lions as an outside backer, moving him inside though and he should be fine with holes being opened up by Tommie Harris.

OLB - DeMarcus Ware - Another young pass rushing outside backer who has gotten better with experience.

CB - Asante Samuel - Was an interception machine last year with 10 picks, I see great things for him in the future, I am very pleased that he will be back with New England.

SS - Rodney Harrison - The elder of the defense who is very good in coverage and loves to hit.

FS - Sean Taylor - Another man who loves to hit, Taylor has the kind of intensity that I am looking for in my free safety, just ask Brian Moorman.

CB - Champ Bailey - The premier corner in the NFL today. The only corner that people refer to as a shutdown corner.

Special Teams

K - Adam Vinatieri - Most Clutch kicker ever.

P - Brad Maynard - May be a bit of a homer pick, but Maynard has a career average of 42.2 yards per punt, and only has had three punts returned for touchdowns in his career.

KR - Devin Hester - I would have pick Bush, but Hester is a gamebreaker as we saw last year. Just ask Denny Green and the Rams how explosive Hester can be.

Since most will do a 3-4, I'll go ahead and do a Tampa 2 Defense

LDE- Julius Peppers- Arguably the most athletic pound for pound player in the NFL. A top DE, and still hasn't reached his full potential.

DT- Kevin Williams- Excellent pass rusher, and was a big part of the #1 rush defense in the NFL last year.

DT- Tommie Harris- The prototypical DT for a Tampa 2 defense

RDE- Dwight Freeney- One of the best pass rushers in the game. Gives LT's fits.

OLB- Lance Briggs- One of the best coverage OLB's in the game, and solid agaisnt the run

MLB- Jonathan Vilma- Younger then Urlacher, and shined playing in the Tampa 2 his rookie year.

OLB- Derrick Johnson- Athletic freak. Will soon be one of the best OLB's in the game.

CB- Asante Samuel- Pick 6 is his specialty, and he'd get plenty of those on this defense with the scheme and players around him.

CB- Champ Bailey- Probablly better suited in a different scheme, but he's still pretty young and the best defensive player in the NFL. He'll make it work.

FS- Bob Sanders- Is all over the place on gameday. Very good against the run and the pass.

SS- Sean Taylor- Feared hitter. Will make plays all over the field.

DE - Julius Peppers
A physical freak at the DE position. He's stout against the run, possesses an excellent pass rush and does all the things you want in a defensive end, and does them damn well.

DT - Kevin Williams
A big reason why the Minnesota defence was so solid against the run last year. A force in the trenches and also is able to get to the QB as well as make his tackles

DT - John Henderson
A HUGE snub from the Pro Bowl this season. There is no way he shouldn't have gone to Hawaii. Teams have to game plan against him, and his combination with Stroud is absolutely immense for Jacksonville.

DE - Dwight Freeney
With the 3 other members of the D-Line all requiring attention. Teams will not be able to double and triple team Freeney as has often been the case. He'll be able to pin his ears back and do what he does best, get after the QB

OLB - Lance Briggs
Some may argue that he is a product of the system and situation he had in Chicago. I'd be inclined to agree, and that is why I have teamed him again with Brian Urlacher in a 4-3.

ILB - Brian Urlacher
Arguably the best MLB in the league right now. Excellent in coverage, a very solid tackler and all around excellent athlete. Combining with Briggs and another excellent versatile OLB, no one will run or pass in this D easily.

OLB - Adalius Thomas
He has been employed almost everywhere on the defense, an athletic freak who definitely has the range to be an OLB in the 4-3. A game changer who was a huge part of that great Baltimore D and a great blitzer to boot.

CB -Champ Bailey
One word. Shutdown. That's all that needs to be said about Champ, simply the best CB in the NFL today

CB - Chris McAlister
A CB with excellent hands and the ability to take a pick to the house. Having him cover number 2 WR's sounds almost unfair.

FS - Ed Reed
An immense playmaker, he's a solid tackler, superb in coverage and can also blitz very well when required to.

SS - Adrian Wilson
The most underrated player in the NFL today playing for the cards. Anyone who has seen the vid of his vert jump knows of his athletic prowess.

P - Brian Moorman
K - Adam Vinatieri
KR - Devin Hester

If you're gonna do a 3-4, you would want Jason Taylor at OLB not DE. Tommie Harris and Ernie Sims are both out of position as well. I would have-

DE-Richard Seymour- Big body who excells at stuffing the run.
(other options-Marcus Spears, Aaron Smith)
NT-Casey Hampton-Is an enormous prescence in the middle.
(Jamal Williams, Vince Wilfork, Haloti Ngata)
DE-Luis Castillo-Isn't as big as Seymour, but is a solid run stuffer who can rush.
(Ty Warren, Igor Olshansky)

OLB-Shawne Merriman-We have all seen what he can do on the field.
(Jason Taylor, Terrell Suggs)
ILB-Brian Urlacher-Has the size to hold up, can stuff the run pretty well.
(Donnie Edwards, Zach Thomas)
ILB-Ray Lewis-Great leader, player. Trotter is an option too (great run stuffer).
(Jeremiah Trotter, James Farrior)
OLB-DeMarcus Ware-Big-time pass rusher, that is what you want from 3-4 OLBs.
(Adailus Thomas, Roosevelt Colvin)

CB-Champ Bailey-NFLs top corner can take away half the field.
(DeAngelo Hall, Nate Clements)
SS-Ed Reed-Fierce competitor, great hitter, amazing playmaker.
(Adrian Wilson, Troy Polamalu)
FS-Sean Taylor-Imposing player who can hit, cover, and run.
(Brian Dawkins, John Lynch)
CB-Asante Samuel-Proved to be one of the games best young DBs.
(Terrence Newman, Chris McCallister)

People need to understand this. If youre running a 3-4, DO NOT put Tampa 2 DTs in at DE. It NEVER works. In fact, its usually a bad idea. Just because their body weights are the same doesn't mean throwing Tampa 2 UTs in at DE will get you a good rush out of the front 3.

Remember, the Tampa 2 UT has a totally different mental approach to the game. 3-4 DE is supposed to occupy blockers in the 2 gap, T2 UT is supposed to collapse the pocket and penetrate while one gapping. Totally different approach.

Thats why you almost always see a Tampa 2 UT fail at 3-4 DE when theres a scheme change of that sort. And vice versa. Its a very different position. So don't put Tommie Harris at DE in the 3-4, Im telling you, thats a flawed approach. Trust me.

Running the 4-3:

RE: Osi Umenyiora
DT: Tommie Harris
NT: John Henderson
LE: Julius Peppers

SLB: Manny Lawson (Homerism at its finest, but I think he's really going to be a stud, and could definitely handle the 4-3)
MLB: Brian Urlacher
WLB: Will Witherspoon (moves back to true position)

CB: Champ Bailey
CB: Lito Sheppard

DE - Suggs (speedy rusher with versatiltiy and young)
DT - Seymour (Hes a 3-4 DE but a 4-3 DT, i took him because i see him play and really like, powerful and mean mentality)
DT - Henderson (crazy SOB, big and strong and YOUNG)
DE - Peppers (arguably the best speciman in NFL, hes a DE with speed to run with a lot of skill position players..great height and speed with youth)
OLB - Sims (Fast LB with the heart to play big)
MLB - Vilma (goes back to a 4-3 where he dominated at Miami and first few years as Jet)
OLB - DJ Williams (One of the most underrated LBs in NFL, and 1 of my favorite)
CB - Bailey (Teams try to sneak a pass on him 3 times a game, 1 pick at least, 2 deflections)
CB - Samuel (Playmaker, great hands and a gambler..he knows how to roll the dice)
FS - Reed (Playmaker in secondary, can hit, run and cover well)
SS - Rhodes (Versatile player, big and strong with good speed to cover and blitz off the edge)

Oh and I hope you guys realize, Asante Samuel isn't that great of a CB, he just benefits from his front 7 and Bill Belicheck's genius.
