Gotta admit I like how the Cowboys are rebuilding their o-line. I thought Martin was a really nice pick, underrated. I imagine him and Smith will be solid bookends for several years after they make a decision on Free.

Imagine if we would have pulled off the 2015 2nd for a 3rd rounder to draft Trai Turner...

LT Tyron Smith Age 23
LG Trai Turner Age 20
C Travis Frederick Age 23
RG or RT Zack Martin Age Age 23

Set for years.... As it is, we have 3 fixtures. Moving on from Free and Bernadeau after next season frees up some serious cap room.

Mike Iupati anyone?

I don't think that there would be room for Smith and Mitchell, but they are practice squad fits. I forgot Arkin existed, but with Costa retired I guess he would have a better shot at sticking this year.

My bad. Didn't even know he left. So we kept him on our roster all this time developing and now we just dumped him, eh? Wish we could've found out much or how little he progressed.

Miami nabbed him if our practice squad. Supposedly we liked his potential.

I love both of you projections because you have 10 DL and 6 LBs. I want to go long at those spots as well considering our recent injury history. Does Anthony Spencer start on PUP?

Also, could we get a 4th from a back-up QB needy team with Orton? Packers? Saints? Bills?

I think Bishop and Coleman are gonna end up pushing hard to see the field and don't count out the UDFA guards we picked up to make the squad, especially with us being thin there.

Also Dontavis Sapp, and that skinner kid hmm, FS anyone. Couldn't hurt to take a look at him there. He seems to be very quick and active and likes contact.
Someone did a good job scouting this kid, long shot to make it from Bethel but nice highlights..lookit this ballhawk lol
Looks more like a FS to me, good size, and speed and finds the ball.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2...agent-signings

Also found this on skinner, 9ers and bucs were interested..he could be someone to hold onto and develop on the practice squad.

Quote:
A week from tomorrow, the 2014 NFL Draft will come to a close, and then the real madness begins as teams rush to sign undrafted free agents. One player the San Francisco 49ers might be interested in signing if he goes undrafted is cornerback Jocquel Skinner. I've heard some rumors, although nothing super specific, that the 49ers are interested in adding him to what should be a fierce competition in the secondary. Skinner has reportedly already worked out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Skinner spent his college years at Bethel University, which is an NAIA institution in Tennessee. For those that are not aware, the college football system is basically ranked FCS (D-1), FBS (D-1AA), Division 2, Division 3, NAIA. The 49ers already have an NAIA cornerback on their roster, former Belhaven Blazer Tramaine Brock. Belhaven and Bethel are actually both part of the Mid-South Conference. Belhaven beat Bethel 55-45, so I'd imagine there would be plenty of bragging rights to sort through!

Skinner made an appearance at the Tennessee Pro Day, and reportedly measured in at 6'04 (4/10, not 6'4) and 184 pounds. NFLDraftScout.com lists him at 6'1 and 1/10. Either way, he'd be the second tallest cornerback on the 49ers roster.

He ran a 4.49 40, did 7.01 in the 3-cone drill and posted 37 inches in the vertical jump, and 10'02" in the broad jump. Unfortunately, I cannot find his arm length, but those are some impressive numbers otherwise. His vertical jump would be tied for 13th among cornerbacks, while his broad jump would be tied for 15th. He has faced a lower level of competition in NAIA football, but he has a lot of the raw skills with which Ed Donatell could do some things.

Naturally, scouting reports are a bit difficult to come by. I found some video of college highlights I've posted below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXsT4ZZt6QQ

The Jackson Sun had an article about small school Tennessee players and how they were working to get a shot in the NFL. Skinner told the Sun he did not anticipate getting drafted, but figured there was still a chance at a late round pick.

From what I've heard, his measureables could make him a popular UDFA prospect. The 49ers could roll the dice that he'll want to sign with them, but another option is to grab him with a late round pick to guarantee he'll be in camp with them. The 49ers are likely looking at cornerbacks higher up in the draft, but I have to think they'll add at least a couple UDFAs and/or late round picks to add into the mix.

Undrafted free agents are looking for the best situation for themselves. For cornerbacks, the 49ers offer an excellent coach in Ed Donatell, and a pretty good situation in terms of opportunities. They've got plenty of veterans competing, but the right young guy could still emerge over some of the existing players. And even if not, the 49ers practice squad is not exactly the worst place for a young player to learn the game.

I think they'll over compensate a bit at both positions due to what happened last year. LB is both stacked and full of injuries. Not only has Lee and Carter missed time, but so did Durant, Holloman, and Wilber missed some games his rookie season.

With DL I think they go heavy because of the injuries and something the guys on the War Room cam kept mentioning during the draft. It seems that Marinelli wants about 8 guys that he could bring in waves to play critical snaps vs. a strong starting 4 full of studs.

Here's the key word for 2015: WAVES

This year all the talk is about how we're going to employ a better and deeper rotation along the DL. Keeping guys fresh and impactful throughout the game. Guys coming in waves.

This is us stealing a page out of the Seahawks. Now we just need to copy them in establishing a studly secondary.

Having a deep DL is nice, and I think we're probably a little deeper than last year, but being deep doesn't mean much if the guys aren't any good lol. Outside of Melton it's anyone's guess if these guys can step up to the plate, and even Melton is a bit of a question mark coming off the injury.

I kinda like the motley crew we've employed because we're gonna find out pretty quickly who can play and who can't. We'll be able to figure out who's a keeper going forward and be able to build off that. It was hard to build the DL this offseason because we were basically starting from scratch with limited cap space. I'm under the belief that this is a 2-3 year project, similar to the OL. That's not to say we can't be competitive while we rebuild that unit, but this scheme is only as good as your front 4 are... Which right now is a mystery.

People like Church? I didn't know he had fans. I could see if he played all season the same way he did in the first four games, but I figured he would be too inconsistent to have fans besides his family and friends.

Barry church has gotta be the most overrated player on our roster. I see so many Cowboy fans wanting to believe he's something that he's not.
Spending too much time at cowboyszone.

It's worse than that, the organization likes church
They always talking him up and the fans, yeah, he had the most fans votes for the probowl last year I think besides Dez!!
I don't know, he's an average player, he's ok. He makes tackles, misses quite a few too. Just doesn't offer anything in coverage, makes no plays on the ball. Serviceable but replaceable.

This is the year for.....If he still remembers how to play!! LOL

Meh. Casual fans overrate Church and you guys underrate him. He's a "glue guy". He's athletically limited, assignment sound and probably the best form tackler (Edit: In the Secondary). Problem is he makes zero "splash plays" (FF, INT, sacks, TFL). You want guys like him to surround the stars on your defense. Problem is we have zero stars in our secondary at the moment. Considering he was easily the best player in our secondary last year some elevate him to "star" level even though he isn't of that caliber.

High hopes for Matt Johnson (deja vu anyone?) as he has all the tools to be the Ed Reed of our defense. Problem is he's made out of straw. Also lets hope Wilcox returns to preseason form when he was all over the place and playing well. The loss of his mother really changed the way he played.

Church got that new contract because he was supposed to be that swiss army knife in Rob Ryan's scheme. Safety/Linebacker who would be moved around, sent to blitz, blah blah blah... then he got hurt and Rob never got to use him.

He's here by default and if he starts the year doing the same ole stuff he's shown so far then he'll be supplanted by Dixon. Or the team could move Wilcox to SS. I'm done with Church being a starter. He's part of the problem, not the solution.

Now that's overrating him. He's a glue guy because kudos to him, he seized an opportunity to be a team leader. But as far as game play goes, he's a softer hitting Roy Williams.

I don't understand the Church hate. If anything just say he's a JAG and move on. Evaluating our defense last year isn't even worth the time. To many broke down or missing pieces to allow us to judge how good or bad he played. Our whole defense looked like a joke outside of Lee/Hatcher.

Hell at the end of the year we were giving props to Selvie and Holloman for not tripping and falling before making a tackle. Hard to believe people are putting last years atrocious defensive performance on the lack of playmaking ability of Church.

Meant secondary but same point :) Merely pointing out that Church is our best player in our horrendous secondary. Then again even the shiniest turd is still a turd :P

Church needs a talented FS playing over his shoulder. He is definitely very poor moving backwards as moving forward and having the play open up in front of him is definitely his strong suit.

Speaks to our safety crew as a whole to be honest. We really need a guy who is quality in the deep half :/

The hate is there because nobody (speaking for myself actually) expects things to change. Do you? Why can't he be the solution that picks everyone else up instead of getting excused because everyone else was bad.

Heck, there's no telling that this defense is any better than last year's at all. We got deeper, but I don't see any clear upgrades among our starting talent.
