Default A Football Life Returns

Interesting lineup. I'm anxious to see the 1993 Houston Oilers since I'm a fan of Warren Moon and that was his last year there. I wonder why they chose that season.

But, why the hell is Darrelle Revis being profiled? His career isn't even over yet.

Quote:
Premiering September 3, the third season of A Football Life begins with a profile of former NFL MVP and current NFL Network analyst LaDainian Tomlinson. Featuring interviews with Tomlinson, his mother Loreane Tomlinson, his wife LaTorsha Tomlinson, former teammates such as Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Antonio Gates, and more, LaDainian Tomlinson: A Football Life explores Tomlinson’s football career, from his four years at Texas Christian University to his 11-year NFL career. The one-hour documentary also includes a visit to the place that played a significant role in his family’s history.

Additional subjects profiled this season on A Football Life include:

NFL Films president Steve Sabol
Legendary broadcaster Pat Summerall
Hall of Fame defensive tackle and current NFL Network analyst Warren Sapp
Super Bowl-champion defensive end Michael Strahan
Hall of Fame wide receivers Jerry Rice & Cris Carter
Former Pro Bowl quarterback Randall Cunningham
The 1993 Houston Oilers

Emmy-nominated actor from CBS’ The Good Wife, Josh Charles, returns for the third season as narrator for the series.

Below is the broadcast schedule for the September and October episodes:

September 10 – Don Shula
September 17 – Darrelle Revis
September 24 – Derrick Thomas
October 1 – Steve Sabol
October 8 – Matt Millen
October 15 – Michael Strahan
October 22 – Pat Summerall
October 29 – Warren Sapp

Warren Sapp???

Great player, but count me as dis-interested on that POS outside the lines of the football field.

Revis seems pretty odd, but then again they did Belichick and Tebow.

That 1993 Oiler one may be pretty interesting. Not only were those teams famous for not reaching their potential, but there were other things going on that year, like Babygate (OT David Williams missing a game because his wife was pregnant), DT Jeff Alm's suicide, and the Ryan-Gilbride incident in the season finale.

Wow. I forgot Jeff Alm died that year. I thought it was the previous season. I remember earlier in the season Warren Moon got benched for Cody Carlson.

Bud Adams was an idiot. He said he was actually breaking the team up if they failed the reach the Super Bowl that season. And he kept him word by trading Warren Moon to the Vikings.

Tebow was at a high point of his career. He came off a season where he played awful yet magically he managed to game winning drives at the end. Winning games they had no business winning.

Then in the playoffs when no one thought he had a chance against a good team, they managed to win on the first play in overtime.

The Tebow story ended on a high note, the story they could tell at that time was much better then one later on when it had to include the terrible end of his QB days.

But the journey wasn't over. No one knew at the time that his career was over for sure. What if he did the same thing again for the Jets. Then the entire program would have to be revamped.

By the way, since Tebow had his 15 minutes of fame I want to see the Frank Reich one.

Now we're talking and they could cover his college career as well.

We couldn't know what would happen with the Jets, just it was unlikely to anything to as close as successful team wise if he started. Many expected some kind of decent wildcat contribution.

For the show its much easier to do the ending after his Broncos season then what was likely to be a big letdown next in comparison. Also, for ratings it was a great time to do it with his wild season right before.

I think he football career will have a couple more chapters. After he's cut by the Pats and if not this year soon he'll know his QB days are over. Then he will likely try to play another position. It will take maybe a year working out on his own before we'll have a some idea if he can make it as a TE.

Yeah, it was a ratings thing. Steve McNair's life and later career were a letdown too, didn't stop NFL Network from profiling him.

As for his tenure with the Jets, the fact is that you don't know. He could have did something in New York. Probably not, but you don't know. But like you said, it was ratings driven which makes that episode dumb. Just like the Darrell Revis one is most likely to be.

The McNair documentary was so sad at the end when they show his mom watching the fireworks.

Yup. Kind of sucked how it was all just over. I still remember the morning my roommate told me about the news. It was like a bad dream.

If anything, that episode just hammers the reality that we don't really know any of these people. McNair on the surface didn't seem like the kind of guy that would be two-timing his wife multiple times, but there he was. Of course we also don't know what kind of marital issues he may or may have not being having with his spouse.

Just like a boatload of NFL players were probably doing coke in the 1980's. You just didn't hear about it. Well, for most players that is.

I find the NFL lockerroom to be a fascinating story that's left untold. Lord knows what happens with those players. Just look at Aaron Hernandez.

The crazy stories about the 90s cowboys. Lawrence Taylor. I'm surprised that investigative reporters aren't trying to find gossip on current NFL players. It's a cash cow if someone tries it.

I know that a lot of New Orleans's players were on coke in 1980. That was one of the reasons for their 1-15 season.

Bill Belichick was the first one, and he's still coaching. If there is an interesting story to tell, then why not.

We've all seen the billion documentaries on Tom Brady's "football life" (please NFLN, do not do that again... if you do profile him).

I wouldn't mind seeing one on the Manning family (or Archie, specifically, as both a player and father).

Honestly, I think Eli Manning would be an interesting one on his life from HS when his brother was tearing it up at Tenn/Colts, then college at Ole Miss where his father is a hero, and basically just following up expectations compared to Peyton his whole career.

It's basically the same story, from a different perspective, minus the part about Archie Manning's career.

I definitely think Eli would be cool as well, though. Of the 3 famous Manning's, I think Peyton's story is the least interesting... but that might just be me.

The LaDainian Tomlinson episode aired. It was really well put together. Definitely went through all aspects of his career. The highs and the lows. I get the feeling that with the emergence of Adrian Peterson, a lot of people have forgotten just truly how dominant he was. It will be interesting to see if he gets in the Hall of Fame on a first ballot. I think he definitely deserves it.

I still remember this clip of Tomlinson against the Rams where he just owned O.J. Atogwe.
