Default Safest Pick?

Who in your opinion is the most sure-fire guy in the upcoming draft? Would it still be Jadaveon Clowney, despite not quite living up to incredibly high expectations (at least statistically)?

No one who's ever covered/tracked a draft will ever answer that question.

This is really a fool's errand.

Even the best in the business get it wrong half the time. Generally, it's why you see good teams seek to have more picks, rather than trade away picks in order to get 'safe' prospects.

Drafting and forecasting is not for the risk averse. Chasing safe picks generally means adopting conventional thinking. The best organizations thumb their nose at that notion.

I don't think the word safe should ever be used with the NFL draft. But if I hand to put my money down on a player that will not bust out.

I'm a huge CJ Mosley fan. If I had to put money on a guy to have long NFL career it would be him.

I don't really ever see any Alabama player as a "safe" pick as there are far too many questions if they are in fact good players or if they are good college players who excelled in the right scheme. The failure of Rolando McClain with his college production scares me when it comes to C.J. Mosley.

I don't think anyone is "safe", but it always seems like the low ceiling and high floor guys that are deemed safe are the ones that bust the most. The top prospects are the safest it seems. Even if they don't always become all pros, I'm sure the top 5-10 picks has the highest success rate for the majority of draft history. Big upside guys can disappoint, but a lot of them are disappointing to people, even if they become quality players (Reggie Bush?)

Well... maybe not, since teams drafting that high are usually not great organizations. The highest rated players, are probably the safest though, lol.

Alabama is the new USC.

Dominated in college, due to big offense and defensive lines, made everyone else on team look better.

Once they get to the NFL, that **** don't fly.

Julio Jones, Andre Smith, Mark Barron and Trent Richardson are good.

Looking good for Dont'a Hightower, James Carpenter, Chance Warmack , D. J. Fluker, and Dee Milliner.

Really only bust is Rolando McClain. Maybe you can say he never became great but he's not a bust is Kareem Jackson.

James Carpenter is atrocious as well. I would rank C.J. Mosley among the safer prospects though, because many questions you'd have regarding different responsibilities on the field, ability to handle pro-style coaching, schematic versatility, etc. have already been answered in his case.

Taylor Lewan and Jake Matthews seem pretty safe to me, as I think either would make a good right tackle if not left tackle.
