If T.O. doesn't get into the HOF the first year he's eligible, it will be total BS.

There are too many variables for the HOF at the minute that I don't he will get in first go, but I agree that it's BS.

The HOF should not be about how nice a person you are, or what time of teammate. It is about how good a player you were and T.O was one of the greatest WRs of all time

Unfortunately that isn't how it works in our society. Probably why Hines Ward will get in.

I don't think Owens is getting in because of his reputation. At least not for a while.

I guess you don't remember what it was that precipitated Owens's suspension. It was...an interview. With Graham Bensinger. Pssst....media.

Edit: As far as the training camp suspension was concerned, Reid sent him home for a week just the same as the Panthers sent Steve Smith home. The difference is, Smith broke a teammate's nose in a fight, whereas Owens got into an argument with Reid that stemmed from him being upset over the Eagles refusing to renegotiate his contract. Owens says Reid was generally on his side against the front office, too. He picked the wrong (cheap) team to go to after his agent ****** up the free agency paperwork.

T.O. has imploded every team he's ever played for in the NFL.
Right. There are so many layers of idiocy in this statement I don't even know where to begin.

Before we get into the ridiculousness of accusing him of imploding the 49ers, Eagles, and Cowboys...I'd like to know exactly how you think he imploded the Bills and Bengals. Yeah, he played for them too...remember? Even the BS media narrative "acknowledges" he was well-behaved in Buffalo and Cincinnati.

Now, rather than waste my time pointing out the stupidity in thinking one man can "implode" an entire football team, the hypocritical, paradoxical claim that Owens "doesn't understand it's a team game" and then blaming him for single-handedly ruining teams, and all the facts surrounding the teams he's played on and their results, I'd like to share what I consider to be the most hilarious of the anti-T.O. logic.....

If a team releases/lets Owens go and and then wins the following year (Dallas, Cincinnati): "See, this proves he was the problem! They got rid of Owens and they're a better team because of it."

If a team releases/lets Owens go and then loses the following year (San Francisco, Philadelphia in 2006 up until they got hot down the stretch): "See, this proves Owens destroyed the team. He caused irreparable damage in the locker room and the team has yet to recover from it."

Quote:
It kills me to hear someone argue that T.O. was a victim of unfair media coverage that Rice didn't have to deal with in SF or OAK.
Sometimes the truth kills.

Without trying to come up with an empirical metric for what would constitute "imploding a team," is it really too hard to imagine that some players, even talented players, can be narcissistic assholes to such an extent that their coaches get tired of working with them and decide to send them on their way? If the media doesn't like a player but the player's coach does, the coach is going to keep the player around.

Oversimplifying things. You see, what happened to Owens isn't just a case of the "media not liking a player." What happened to Owens was the biggest media assault in the history of professional sports. With Owens, they actually affected the decision-making of the teams he was on, be it through spreading rumors, manipulating his quotes and then feeding them in their altered state to other members of the organization, or feeding him misinformation (many don't realize Owens's desire to renegotiate his Eagles contract actually stemmed from a Sal Paolantonio report that the Eagles were planning on releasing him before he reached any of the big money in his backloaded contract). They directly caused the reactions.

Everything people think they know about Owens has been an incredible journey of deceitful journalistic tactics and smoke-and-mirrors.

When you actually trace it back to its roots, it becomes crystal clear.

In 1996-1999, the narrative in the local press was, "Owens is the quiet receiver of the bunch. He's hard-working and unselfish, while the others, in particular Jerry Rice, are quite vocal and regularly demand the football." In 1998, Owens shocked the coaches when he volunteered to come off the bench so that Jerry Rice and J.J. Stokes could start.

In week 4 of 2000, everything completely flipped around. He ran to the star twice after scoring touchdowns, refused to apologize for the celebrations, and was suspended for a game. Coupled with the shifting direction of modern media, this backed him into a corner he could never get out of. He had a target on his back that would never go away.

This video (although hard to read in parts) illustrates the phenomenon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ktz7ZOsPt4

I'm sure you recognize many of these types of statements about Owens and his personality. They're the exact same things people say about him today, and have been saying for 13 years, only now that name-calling is justified with completely different alleged "incidents."

Fast-forward a year later, and here's what Owens was facing in the media. The controversy this time? He didn't talk to the media after a game. Didn't say anything. This author did a brilliant job of capturing what was happening:

http://www.ecphorizer.com/EPS/site_p...age=61&issue=9

For the sake of brevity, I won't get into the rest of the long timeline, but the point is this: The media went batshit insane when it came to Owens, to the point where they apparently thought they had the right to do whatever they wanted to him. Take a quote out of context, misquote, write about "anonymous sources"...you name it, they did it. And they fed it all to the rest of his team to the point where some of them reacted. They caused the Garcia/Owens conflict, they caused the Garcia/McNabb conflict, and they caused the Cowboys' locker room to go into a frenzy trying to figure out who the "anonymous source" was. To the outsider or the less observant, it appears as if Owens is the common denominator in the situation. What they miss is the media was also a common denominator, and the real cause of this illusion.

Reporter to T.O. - 'Do you think Jeff Garcia is Rudy Cool?'
T.O. - 'Well if it looks like a duck and talks like a duck, must be a duck.'

Yeah, I want this dude on my team for more than 2-3 seasons.

Sorry but I can't buy the tin foil hat media conspiracy against Owens. The NFL is filled with a-holes who don't switch teams like Owens did.

T.O. is a victim??lol

That's what his mother said.

TO was crazy, not an ass hole though. And let's be clear, the reason he left Philly is because of that hold out after he dragged the eagles to the SB on a broken leg, only to watch Donovan McNabb's fat, hungover ass puking in the huddle to lose it for them.

Oh my. I almost can't handle all of this. It is soooooo delicious. Everyone was out to get TO. He never ever did anything wrong. It was all the media.

You think you known, but you have no idea. This is the Diary of Terrell Owens.

And then Garcia marries a hot super model and makes Owens look like a dumbass. Now Owens is broke and dealing with child support problems with like three baby mamas. Bet he wishes HE was the one that was *** now.

It shouldn't matter. I think the point is Owens simply looks like a moron back then and even more so now for the baseless implication on someone's sexual preferences in life.

Dexter Manly did the same thing regarding Troy Aikman the other day.

Just for clarity, having a wife and kids doesn't necessarily mean you're not ***, but it does provide some doubt.
Skip Bayless started that rumor, if that's worth anything. Deion ripped Skip a new one too as I remember too.

Those were the good ole days

Dexter Manly did the same thing regarding Troy Aikman the other day.
Manly was an illiterate crackhead - probably still is

Troy Aikman has children. He's recently divorced and was apparently hooking up with some young honey that might have been a cheerleader for the Cowboys or something.

And yes, having a wife and kids doesn't necessarily mean you aren't ***. But what are the chances of that? How much money would you put down on a random stranger walking with his wife and kids down the street that he's ***?

Haha some doubt BBD? Do you take that attitude with every guy you see walking with their kids? "Errrm...might not be ***...but I dunno..."

I guess it doesn't matter. It was just funny how back in the day Owens claims were based purely on conjecture.

It really, really doesn't. I posted what I posted originally because someone said Terrell Owens "looks like a dumbass" or something after Garcia married a playmate, and I was basically just trying to say, "Hey, maybe Garcia just wanted to make Owens look like a dumbass." We all know most people don't think of marriage as sacred anymore; it's basically just another contract in many ways. But the conversation was veering way out of football territory, so I deleted it, but found I'd already been quoted, so... there ya go.

I'm glad this is the nfl random discussion thread now.

Why is there no version of Billy Squires song The Stroke but with Brandon Stokley? I made that song up on my head when the Ravens signed him and I've been singing it all year.

Like this song
