Chicago isn't going anywhere until they bring back the Honey Bears.

The Boobs and Josh McBoobs haven't exactly faced tough defenses the last two weeks. The Redboobs are ranked near the bottom of the league in D and the Pack doesn't have Boobs Matthews.

There is certainly the question if McCown can sustain his success but its obvious he is thriving with Trestman. I really didn't notice much of a difference between Cutler and McCown. Cutler isn't a world beater out there.

ok well there are probably better comparisons than Gannon. Chances are McCown will not become an unquestioned starter anywhere else. Maybe he will go somewhere next year and have a QB compeition with a young guy or something. Gannon played at a HOF level in his years on the Raiders. I have a hard time seeing that from McCown.

Matt Flynn has put up 6 TD's in a game. Food for thought.

The most important thing a QB must do is move the offense forward and not turn the ball over. He's done a fantastic job of both.

If you don't understand that, you don't understand football.

Now, do I think he will continue to do that? No. His career says that he's exactly who he is and at 35 it's crazy to expect that to change.

But he's been lights out since he took over. I don't see how you could even challenge that.

But you're suggesting that he should stay on the field over Cutler, which is just a terrible idea. Cutler is the far superior qb.

Cutler needs to see the field so you can evaluate if you extend him or not.

No I'm not. I'm saying that if Cutler was still hurt it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

If Cutler is healthy he should obviously play.

I think Bears HC Trestman might be the best QB coach in the league, which I'm sure has something to do with McCown's emergence.

Define the max? We talking $20 million? If so I say absolutely not. Franchising him or signing him for $12-15 million I'd be okay with.

I'm eating crow on the Trestman hire. I was not a fan of it but he has been solid. I do like how he seems to be more willing to go for it on 4th down than most coaches. I don't know if he is the best QB coach in the NFL but he does have quite the track record.

Cutler isn't going to accept 15 million. If Ryan, Romo and Flacco got max contracts, so will Cutler.

That's the problem with the qb market nowadays. Everyone feels obligated to give their guy the max.

So it's either max or let him walk.

Flacco and Ryan are both younger than Cutler and more accomplished than him. Their market was much bigger than Cutler's.

And Jerry Jones is Jerry Jones, so Romo doesn't count.

But anyway, to answer your question, no way in hell do the Bears give Cutler the 100 mil that Flacco and Ryan got.

If he seriously expects that they'll franchise him for 1/15 and that's that.

Doesn't matter though, the market has been established. If the Bears walk, there absolutely will be a team willing to give him the max.

Cutler knows it. He won't take anything less than the max.

I'll be really surprised if the Bears sign Cutler for $20 mil/year.

That's fine. Then they franchise him and draft a QB to groom for a season.

Let someone else be stupid.

That's the problem with the qb market nowadays. Everyone feels obligated to give their guy the max.

So it's either max or let him walk.
The problem is while the NFL is a quarterback driven league, there comes a point where you've priced yourself out of having passengers.

I'm sorry, that was a a terrible analogy. Let me try this again.

The problem is while the NFL is a quarterback driven league, it's still a team game and you need to afford to have the rest of a team.

On the plus side, this upcoming offseason the Bears will be 40 million under the cap, 50 if they cut Peppers. Which given Peppers' age & precipitous drop off in sack total from last year to now may happen.

So if they want to retain Cutler they can, and if they don't want to retain Cutler.... well, they'll have a lot of money to spend.

Cutler is going to be an interesting FA bc I'm a firm believer that teams are too afraid to let their "franchise" qb walk and feel obligated to overpay for them.

One day a smart team is going to say no, we won't pay you X amount of dollars even though you're a franchise qb, and move on, just like they do with any other position.

So far this hasn't happened yet, and agents have taken total advantage of this and gotten their qbs an absurd amount of money. The qb is taking up way too much of a team's cap space and only a select few qbs warrrant that kind of percentage.

But everyone is giving their qb that money when most don't deserve it.

Will Cutler be the first one who gets the shaft? I guess we'll see.
