He better get the same scrutiny that Geno Smith got last year.

There are a # of reasons why players skip the Senior Bowl no matter what draftniks say.
Sometimes guys want to work on a certain new area of their game and want as much time as they can get to improve their overall ability, so they skip the Senior Bowl and even the Combine so they have more time to work on their pro game and show it off at a pro day.

A lot off prospects can also have lingering injuries which didn't stop them from playing during the regular season but they want to be completely healed before appearing before the scouts and GM's.

Some agents insist that their prospects skip certain events and go through a high intensity training period designed by pro coaches and carried out by them, so they can show off their improvement since the season ended.

Pro scouts and GM's really don't care all that much as long as they get them to workout at some point in the process, it is only some draftniks who think it seriously affects their status. The agents who have been in the business know how the game is played and advise their players accordingly.

A big Tide homer I know said McCarron's having another surgery on his throwing shoulder after the bowl game. I don't think he knows anyone that would know that kind of thing as he graduated years ago; it's probably just what they're talking about on Alabama message boards or something.

He's already had two on that shoulder, right? Gonna get that Chad Pennington discount card if it's true.

If McCarron's impending surgery was the reason he was skipping the Senior Bowl, he would've said it.

There' no good reason for QB prospect to skip the Senior Bowl if he's invited.
Luck and RG3 didn't go because they weren't eligible.

I don't think Peyton went, but McCarron isn't the consensus #1 pick two years in a row.

Coaches want to see this guy up close and personal because AJ has a TON of question marks about what kind of QB he is outside the Alabama system.

I think McCarron just pushed himself to the bottom of the draft.

He looks arrogant, delusional and scared.

Unless you're the clear cut #1 guy in the draft or injured, there's no reason to skip the Senior Bowl.

McCarron must really believe HE'S the reason the Tide won all those games while he was at 'Bama.lol

Weren't Luck and RG3 both redshirt juniors? I thought those type of guys were eligible. Maybe that rule didn't change until last year though.

I think most people here agree that McCarron is not going to be a first round QB, last year most people here and on other sites were hyping up Smith as the number one draft pick - two totally different scenarios.

McCarron is stupid for not going to the senior bowl to help his stock but I do not think he is operating under the delusion he is going to be picked first overall. Smith was operating under the delusion he was going to be the 1st overall pick which is why he did not attend.

Not performing at the combine was usually one of the dumbest decision college prospects had made. Now, it becomes common.

Right now, passing on Senior Bowl opportunity is a bad idea. In one day, East-West Shrine is cancelled as second/third tier players have opportunity to be there in Mobile. Who knows.

Back to Smith vs McCarron argument. Smith was an idiot while McCarron is not.

Smith never played a pro style so he had a lot of works to display. Working on pro style for the first time in Mobile and then Combine then Pro Day then Private Practice is the good way to find out about Smith's learning process between those days for NFL scouts. He hurt himself big time.

McCarron already knows pro style under Nick Saban. Only thing that is questionable about him is his deep pass. Arm strength will take some good times to improve so going to Senior Bowl will not improve his weakness. McCarron has nothing to lose without Senior Bowl bolster.

I'm stunned by McCarron's decision, especially considering his local roots.

It's gotta be one of two things. Either his stock is much higher in league circles than we realize or he is mistakenly under the assumption that it is. All I can say is Mr. McCarron needs to place phone calls to Brian Brohm, Brady Quinn and Geno Smith before officially declining that invitation.

McCarron, if healthy, needs to do everything at the combine. If he thinks he can Blaine Gabbert the whole process he's in for a rude awakening.

Now McCarron's mother is saying he hasn't decided whether to play in the Senior Bowl or not.

Stay tuned...

Maybe it's because he realizes he's a noodle-armed game manager with little to no athletic ability that folds in the face of pressure and it's time to get started with the rest of his non-NFL life.

So is McCarron's mom going to be like RGIII's dad in the NFL. Being in the locker room and what not?

Has no regard for his body or anyone else's. Sort of this year's Kiko Alonso.

A little surprised Cassius Marsh wasn't selected for the Senior Bowl. Most of the time i was watching the Bruins, waiting for Anthony Barr to make plays, it was Marsh doing the most damage.

I noticed he was on the lowly East-West Shrine game roster but i think he could be a big time sleeper for someone. At times he reminds me a bit of Jared Allen when he was coming out.

Not sure who reported it first or I'd credit but Dixie St. TE Joe Don Duncan suffered a broken foot during training and won't be able to participate in the 2014 Senior Bowl. Bummer!

Good call. Big fan of Zumwalt. I see a guy that really worked hard to improve his speed, awareness, and strength. Looks like a lot better athlete than he was last year. I think he could play a variety of roles and LB positions.
