Default 2011, The Greatest NFL Draft Of All Time?

While it's completely understandable that the drafts dubbed the GOAT are recognized for their outstanding quarterback play and overall number of HOF's, I implore you to take a highly objective look at the 2011 draft. While of course it has yet to be seen whether some of these guys will truly live up to the potential they've displayed thus far or just fall off after a couple years of solid play, this class has more than convinced me that it has what it takes to be one of, if not the best draft classes of all time. And when I say the greatest, I'm not necessarily referring to the number of HOF players its going to pump out. I actually prefer this criteria: exceptional players able to dominate their position and transcend their side of the playing field, their contribution and role on their respective team, and do they display enough talent to the point where you'd say "hey, he has a much better chance of making the pro-bowl than being labeled the next Aaron Curry."

Just look at some of these guys:

1 - Cam Newton, QB, Auburn, to the Carolina Panthers.

2 - Von Miller, LB, Texas A&M, to the Denver Broncos

3 - Marcel Dareus, DT, Alabama, to the Buffalo Bills.

4 - A.J. Green, WR, Georgia, to the Cincinnati Bengals.

5 - Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU to the Arizona Cardinals

6 Julio Jones, WR, Alabama, to the Atlanta Falcons in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. The Falcons gave up their 2011 second- and fourth-round pick, as well as a 2012 first- and fourth-round pick.

7 Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri, to the San Francisco 49ers

8 Jake Locker, QB, Washington, to the Tennessee Titans.

9.Tyron Smith, OT, USC to the Dallas Cowboys

11. J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin, to the Houston Texans

14 Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina, to the St. Louis Rams.

15. Mike Pouncey OL, Florida, to the Miami Dolphins

16. Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue, to the Washington Redskins

17. Nate Soldier, OT, Colorado, to the New England Patriots

20. Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa, to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

24. Cameron Jordan, DE, California, to the New Orleans Saints

25. James Carpenter, OL, Alabama, to the Seattle Seahawks

27. Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado, to the Baltimore Ravens

30. Muhammad Wilkerson, DE, Temple, to the New York Jets

32. Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State, to the Green Bay Packers

ROUND 2, NOT BAD AT ALL

3. Cincinnati - Andy Dalton, QB Texas Christian
4. San Francisco (from Denver) - Colin Kaepernick, QB Nevada
11. Minnesota - Kyle Rudolph, TE Notre Dame
14. Denver (from Miami) - Orlando Franklin, OG Miami (Fla.)
16. Oakland - Stefen Wisniewski, C Penn State
24. New England (from New Orleans) - Shane Vereen, RB California
25. Detroit (from Seattle) - Mikel Leshoure, RB Illinois
26. Baltimore - Torrey Smith, WR Maryland
32. Green Bay - Randall Cobb, WR Kentucky

ROUND THREE

6. Kansas City (from Cleveland) - Justin Houston, LB Georgia
7. Dallas - DeMarco Murray, RB Oklahoma
9. New England (from Houston) - Stevan Ridley, RB Louisiana State
10. New England (from Minnesota) - Ryan Mallett, QB Arkansas
18. San Diego - Vincent Brown Jr., WR San Diego State

ROUND FOUR

5. Cleveland - Jordan Cameron, TE Southern California
17. Jacksonville - Cecil Shorts III, WR Mount Union
23. Philadelphia - Alex Henery, PK Nebraska
29. New York Jets - Bilal Powell, RB Louisville
32. Denver (from Green Bay) - Julius Thomas, TE Portland State

ROUND FIVE

14. Atlanta (from St. Louis) - Jacquizz Rodgers, RB Oregon State
17. Oakland - Denarius Moore, WR Tennessee
22. New York Jets (from Philadelphia) - Jeremy Kerley, WR Texas Christian
23. Seattle (from Kansas City through Detroit) - Richard Sherman, CB Stanford
34. Baltimore - Pernell McPhee, DL Mississippi State

ROUND SIX

9. Miami (from San Francisco through Green Bay) - Charles Clay, RB Tulsa

ROUND SEVEN

8. San Francisco - Bruce Miller, LB Central Florida

I just pulled out some of the more obvious, noteworthy names and others that have already established a name for themselves with their solid play. Do you think 2K11 could go down as the greatest draft of all time or at the very least one of the very best we've seen in a long time?

It is too early, however I will say, that possibly the 6 of the top 10 defensive players in the game right now came from this draft:

Von Miller
JJ Watt
Robert Quinn
Muh Wilkerson
Richard Sherman
Justin Houston

Ignore Nick Fairley but mention Mikel Leshoure? Blah.

Top notch draft though.

Also not sure why guys like Sherrod, Mallett and Jimmy Smith are there. Highly touted pre-draft but none have done much. Smith has ability but has yet to put it together, Sherrod is always injured (but hey he is a Packer afterall) and Mallett hasn't shown anything to say he will be more than a backup

It looks like the best draft in a long time.

The depth in rounds 2-6 is outstanding.

If JJ Watt/Patrick Peterson/Von Miller/Aldon Smith stay healthy and avoid suspensions, all four of those guys look like potential HOFers if they maintain their level of play.

Jets did well in this draft probably because of this. Our 7th round pick(McElroy) actually made starts for us even.

Just wish Kenrick Ellis could amount to more for the team.

Conte blows long and hard, so him not being included originally wasn't really an error.

Mikel LeShoure is ******* terrible, no idea why he's included. He's been inactive in favor of a journey RB (who rules but still) and a 6th rounder. Also, WHERE IS NICK FAIRLEY?

Jimmy Smith is legit. The best CB on our team this year and has had really good man and zone coverage since his rookie year. He get's a lot of **** for his pass interference's but on most of them it's beast coverage just didn't turn his head around(Fixable issue and has been a lot better this year).

Yeah Smith has been really good for most of the season. He had a somewhat rough start but since he's absolutely lived up to his 1st round draft status.

Maybe we should just draft guys who fell bc of "weed" concerns from rounds 3 to 7 and hope you land some steals.

BBD, as a Giants fan, do you honestly think you're just going to get someone like that, who is projected to go in the first round, but drops to the third because of marijuana use but somehow turns it around and significantly contributes to your team? Sorry, I just can't see that happening.

Dude, it's just a pipe dream.

Prince and Jacquain have been really awesome for the giants as well.

Adrian Clayborn has not lived up to his first round status. He's more of a solid run defender and below average pass rusher.

Mason foster is a beast. 3rd round. I was shocked he lasted that long.
