Tampa Bay has signed QB Matt Shaub to backup Mike "The Giraffe" Glennon for the 2014 season. The one year deal is expected to be worth 3 million.

And while apparently trying to throw everything but the sink at their defensive end woes, the Bucs have signed Jared Allen (2yr 9mil) and Julius Peppers (2yr 10mil) as insurance in case they are unable to draft a pass rusher in the 2014 draft.

Tampa has also release DE Steven Means.

I trade a 2025 7th rounder for Tom Brady. The jets got a bargain. Yes, I'm joking

Chiefs make first move to bolster WR core

The Chiefs have reached an agreement with WR Jeremy Maclin on a 3 year deal no word on financial terms. The Chiefs are also still looking for more WR help weather it be in FA or the draft. "We need to upgrade the WR position dramatically," Chiefs HC Andy Reid said." we dropped at least 30 passes last year and that's unacceptable. Maclin is the start of an overhaul at that position."

Winston Fails Physical

The Tennessee Titans had agreed in principal to a contract with Eric Winston pending the physical. Winston has failed it. The Titans are hopeful Winston can take some time and pass the physical after the draft.

The Lions have signed DT Fred Evans, formerly of the Minnesota Vikings, sources have said. Evans will give the Lions even more depth on their defensive line and is expected help shore up their rush defense. Terms of the deal are not yet know but it is believed to be a 2-year deal.

Also reportedly signing with the Lions on a 2-year deal, is former New York Jets kicker Nick Folk.

First phase of Cleveland Browns stadium renovations complete.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- As the draft draws near, Cleveland fans have more than shiny new toys on the field to look forward to. The first phase of stadium renovations have completed, leaving the Browns with a new scoreboard. This new high-definition scoreboard is state of the art and over three times bigger than before. We decided to ask around Cleveland to gauge their excitement on the new addition, as well as the draft.

Tony George, an Avon Lake native, had this to say about the new look stadium.

"I can't wait to see what the new stadium looks like, it will be great to see the action again on a much nicer, clearer screen. More importantly, I am excited that I can watch highlights from real football teams around the league at half time when we are completely out of the game and I am regretting the $70 I spent on my ticket and a beer."

When asked about the update, coach Rod Chudzinski added "It will be a nice addition, this way when we make our mistakes I can coach the guys up on the sidelines when they drop a pass or fail to recover an onside kick."

Even opposing players are jumping with joy. Via conference call, New England Quarterback Tom Brady said he was thrilled for the chance to play in a frigid Cleveland in December saying - "I can't wait to give the first ref that tries to call me for intentional grounding an earful. I will point up at that screen and tell that ref who's daddy."

The second phase of stadium renovations featuring escalators and new ramps will start in 2017 when the Browns plan to finally be relevant and draw fans that are willing to sit in the upper levels.

"If something happens, and it's the Cleveland Browns, I'm going to pour my heart out for the Dawg Pound and try to win a Super Bowl for Cleveland," he said. "I don't care if they've had 20 starting quarterbacks since 1999. I'm going to be the 21st and the guy that brought them the Super Bowl." - JFF

The Redskins Report

Coaching Carousel Goes Full Circle

The Redskins officially terminated the contract for Mike Shanahan on Thursday after receiving confirmation that Art Briles would accept the job as the new Head Coach of the Washington Redskins. Team Owner/GM Dan Snyder had a falling out with Shanahan after a miserable season that saw the Redskins nose dive to the bottom of the NFL once again in 2013. Determined to bounce back, Snyder turned to Baylor's Briles who has a wonderful relationship with Franchise QB, Robert Griffin.

Briles and Griffin pictured above walking through Redskins facilities earlier today.

San Diego Chargers sign former Baltimore Ravens tight end, Ed Dickson to a 3 year deal to back up future Hall of Famer Antonio Gates. This will give Phillip Rivers a dual threat at the tight end position. The Bolts are still looking at a few other potential free agents.

The Chargers of San Diego bring back Jarret Johnson after both parties agreed on a restructured deal. Johnson will re-join Te'o and Butler in the San Diego LB Core along with new comer Vic Beasley. The Bolts look to improve their defense as it was 29th in pass defense.

Patriots agree to terms with pair of pre-draft cap casualties

The New England Patriots today announced that they have reached agreements with two pre-draft cap casualties, former Detroit Lions wide receiver Ryan Broyles and former Houston Texans tight end Owen Daniels, both of whom will be signing one-year contracts with the organization.

Broyles, who turned twenty-six earlier this month, was placed on injured reserve last October after tearing his right Achilles’ tendon, his third season-ending injury in as many seasons. Previously, Broyles had torn his left ACL during his senior season with the Oklahoma Sooners, causing him to fall into the late second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Ten games into his rookie season, he tore his right ACL, then was lost for the season in his sixth appearance of 2013. Given that New England currently has six receivers on the active roster – Danny Amendola, Aaron Dobson, Kenbrell Thompkins, Josh Boyce, Brandon Coleman, and Matthew Slater – it is expected that the Patriots will place Broyles on the Physically Unable to Perform list to begin the season.

The thirty-one-year-old Daniels, at one point considered among the most dynamic “flex” tight ends in the league, may also be on the downside of his career after having sustained three torn ACLs dating back to his college days and suffering a non-displaced fibula fracture this past season, which landed him on the injured reserve list with a designation to return. At 6’3” and 249 pounds, Daniels isn’t considered a particularly effective blocker, but has topped 500 receiving yards in five of his past seven seasons, including a sixty-two-catch, 716-yard, six-touchdown 2012 campaign. Given that Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is currently recovering from a torn ACL of his own, Daniels may be prominently featured in New England’s offense early if he is fully healthy, although his role would resemble former “F” tight end Aaron Hernandez’s rather than serving as an inline “Y” option, the position Gronkowski plays.
