Also, I should note that I am running a contest this year. The contest is exactly the same as the contests run every year for college basketball, and the winner will receive a t-shirt of whatever team wins this tournament.

If you are interested in taking part in the challenge, let me know by replying to this thread with your filled out bracket.

(Note: North winner will play South winner, East winner will play West winner in Final Four matchups.)

I thought it was a little unusual at first, but when you look at their schedule none of their losses have been bad and came against good teams. While the Louisville win was impressive, the close games against Memphis, Houston, Temple, USF and SMU might make the odds makers hard to make UCF the favorite.

Odds were used according to Jeff Sagarin's ratings, and may not reflect actual Vegas lines. Still, as JCN pointed out, it's not a giant leap to suggest that GT would be favored. Either way, I think the line is at least close, though I would lean to this being closer to a pick, and at the worst, UCF -2.

The schedule for the next 3 days: (Am I taking this a bit too seriously?)

Thursday
12PM EST
LSU vs. Utah State, Baylor vs. UL-Lafayette

2PM EST
Oklahoma vs. Boston College

6PM EST

8PM EST
Auburn vs. Pittsburgh

10PM EST
Oregon vs. Western Kentucky

FRIDAY
12PM EST
Texas A&M vs. Marshall, Ohio State vs. Middle Tennessee

2PM EST
Northern Illinois vs. Navy

4PM EST
Clemson vs. Texas Tech, Ball State vs. BYU, Bowling Green vs. Houston

6PM EST
East Carolina vs. Boise St, South Carolina vs. Penn State

8PM EST
Michigan State vs. UNC

10PM EST
Stanford vs. Syracuse

SATURDAY
12PM EST
UCF vs. Georgia Tech

2PM EST
Oklahoma St vs. Ole Miss, Miami vs. Nebraska

4PM EST

There are only 2 traditional matchups (matchups between the highest seeds in their respective brackets) in the Sweet 16: #1 Michigan State vs. #4 LSU and #2 Baylor vs. #3 Oklahoma.

A quarter of the Sweet 16 this year is comprised of double-digit seeds. The lowest of the four, #14 Penn State, also has the best chance at moving on to the Elite 8. Georgia Tech and Marshall have had good runs , but it seems like their opponents, Alabama and Ohio State, are on a crash course for each other. Ohio State is more ripe for the upset, however, as Marshall has eliminated Johnny Manziel's Aggies and Tajh Boyd's Tigers in back-to-back weekends, while OSU has beaten Middle Tennessee and Bowling Green by a combined 12 points.

Boise State's defense shined against Syracuse, but will it hold up against the mighty Ducks of Eugene? It's doubtful. Oregon has scored 41 points in each of their first two games. It seems like Oregon will meet Auburn in the Elite 8, IF Auburn can get past Fresno State. FSU will be a tough test for Auburn if the two manage to get in a shootout. Derek Carr is among the best QBs in the nation.

Penn State will look for its third straight upset after eliminating #3 South Carolina and #6 Northern Illinois so far. They match up against the untrusted Miami Hurricanes, and if they can slow down Miami RB Duke Johnson, they can squeak into the Sweet 16. Meanwhile, the Spartans will have their hands full as well. They have the nation's top defense, but they will be challenged by an LSU offense that has plenty of weapons in QB Zach Mettenberger, RB Jeremy Hill, and WRs Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham. That should be one of the best games of the Sweet 16.

Finally, Brett Hundley led UCLA to the Sweet 16 with a 4 TD (2 passing, 2 rushing) performance. He'll be engaged in a QB battle with Heisman-winning Jameis Winston and the Seminoles. The 'Noles' smallest margin of victory has been 14 points (vs. Boston College), and they've won comfortably against Mississippi State (20-0) and Texas (31-13) so far in this tourney. Something tells me UCLA could come the closest to knocking off FSU. Meanwhile, #2 Baylor and #3 Oklahoma meet in a rematch of a game Baylor won earlier this season. Both scored late (Oklahoma beat Georgia on a Hunnicutt FG with :08 left, Baylor beat USC with a Petty-to-Reese pass with :20 left) to win their second round games, so they're on the same footing heading into this matchup. I expect it to go much the same way as their first game, but who knows? Maybe Bob Stoops has a trick up his sleeve after all.
