1) So the answer to my question is that he has financial problems that Texas will help him with. If that's true it's pretty much case closed.

2) Someone mentioned that Texas is the best job in the country. I have some suspicions why that may be the case but why is it? I'm not disagreeing I'm just wondering why it's considered the best job?

Money and access to recruits, which are the two main standards by which any college job is judged by.

While Alabama can basically print its own money, Texas football is still the most financially successful college program. And, while Alabama has been the top recruiting program for the last few years, a lot of that is a credit to Saban and his staff, as Alabama has to go into other states like Georgia, Louisiana, and Florida to compete at a top level, whereas Texas more or less gets to pick the top 20 kids from Texas they want.

That strategy has worked so well the past 20 years. Any big name program has to go outside their home state to find the players it needs to win MNCs. Texas' incest based recruiting has held that program back for decades.

Really good question.

That said, Mack Brown was 158-47 over his 16 years at Texas, so to talk about it as some abject failure is dumb.

The problem with Texas under Brown, if you believe most reports, is that the culture is too soft and players don't develop like they should. But to impose some arbitrary demand on artificial state borders makes absolutely no sense. There is more than enough talent in the state of Texas alone to win national championships, which is why every major program in the country recruits there.

And, going back to answering the question (instead of being a stupid troll), THAT is why Texas is considered such a great job. They get their pick of the litter.

It's held them back because they messed up. Texas basically turned down two Heisman trophy winners so they could sign Colr McCoy's less talened brother. If Texas sigbs RGIII or Manziel, we migh be having a different discussion.

Precisely. If anything, Brown has done a poor job of choosing the correct Texas talent. There have been a ton of guys from Texas he's let go that have won other teams' national championships.

I had this identical discussion on Twitter this morning. Finebaum said going from Alabama to Texas was a lateral move. And he spoke about what Saban has built as Alabama for the reasoning. If he can build that at Bama, imagine what he can build in a better situation.

Exactly. Between 1997-2007 Alabama was a sub .500 team in the SEC (before being the SEC meant what it does today). Some of that was sanctions, but a lot of that was just bad coaching, as they were bad before the sanctions as well.

Texas is in MUCH better shape than Bama was when Saban took it over, and it has more resources available than any program in the country.

You're not adding anything to the discussion. Please, discuss Saban or go away.

The Texas job, as others have alluded to, is the best job in the country. Like BF said, you essentially hand pick the 20 kids you want from Texas and then win 10 games every single year. There are ebbs and flows everywhere at every job because recruiting is an inexact science and you're dealing with people, not commodities, but if you keep putting premium gasoline and oil into a Ferrari it stays a Ferrari, as opposed to putting that same gas and oil into a Lexus, which Saban has essentially done in Alabama, and watch it become the best Lexus possible, you're still going to lose to a Ferrari that's maintained perfectly. That's life.

People are going into Texas' back yard and grabbing all sorts of recruits but if you look, a ton of those kids didn't get Texas offers. Seldom to people turn down Texas, Texas just went after the wrong kids.

You two should take it outside as they say. Try to focus on football.

This could be an interesting discussion, what are the next best jobs? I don't know enough about the financial situations of schools, but off the top of my head, I'd say the top-ten jobs include; Texas, Georgia, Florida, Ohio State, USC, UCLA, Alabama, Penn State, FSU, Notre Dame.

Edit: Ooops, I forgot LSU, they have to be in there somewhere.
