Default My Complete 1st Round Mock

1. Oakland Raiders: Calvin Johnson WR

Everyone has them picking Russell, but I don't see it happening. Al Davis is getting old, he wants to win now, and he's all about deep-threat receivers. Plus, QB Andrew Walter was drafted by Al already, and I don't see him abandoning that pick all of a sudden.

2. Detroit Lions: JaMarcus Rusell QB

The Lions get a "steal," but this pick (AKA the fact the Lions, of all teams, get him) ends up foreshadowing the failure/bust that Russell will become. He could flourish if he gets along well with Mike Martz...but I personally just don't see it happening. Anyway...

3. Cleveland Browns: Brady Quinn QB

Cleveland gets their hometown hero, and Quinn is happy. The fans finally have something to look forward to, and I think BQ enjoys a long, successful NFL career.

4. Tampa Bay Bucs: Amobi Okoye DT

Gruden has already gone on the record calling Amboi "my man," and has openly shown his fascination with the 19 year old. With Calvin Johnson off the board, they take their 2nd option.

5. Arizona Cardinals: Joe Thomas LT

A total steal. For once, the Cardinals get a lucky break, and they're able to find a premier, stand-up guy to watch Leinart's back for the next decade.

6. Washington Redskins: Gaines Adams DE

We all know the Redskins suck at pressuring the QB, and Adams is, in my opinion, the top prospect at the position they need the most help at, DE.

7. Minnesota Vikings: Jamaal Anderson DE

With the signing of ex-Colt Mike Doss, they now have more than enough safeties, so the popular pick of LaRon Landry seems silly at this point. The Falcons will love this, because...

8. Atlanta Falcons: LaRon Landry S

Atlanta gets the guy they wanted all along, and helps out in their secondary. Being the draft's closest "sure thing" on the defensive front, he should turn out pretty well for the Falcons.

9. Miami Dolphins: Levi Brown LT

Dolphins bolster their offensive line and plug in Brown at LT for a long time. Hopefully it keeps some consistency while they figure out who their QB of the future is.

10. Houston Texans: Adrian Peterson RB

This should help out their newly-run Schaub offense a lot, but they're probably wishing Levi Brown fell one more spot so they could help patch up that porous O-Line.

11. San Francisco 49ers: Dwayne Bowe WR

They pass up Willis to get a nice WR for Alex Smith to toss to.

12. Buffalo Bills: Marshawn Lynch RB

With AD gone, they address their RB needs with the "second best" one in the draft. Personally, I think he'll wind up with a better NFL career than Adrian because of his pro-suited gamestyle. Good pick for Buffalo.

13. St. Louis Rams: Alan Branch DT

Branch is selected to help the Rams' awful run defense. Even though Amobi went before him, I like Branch as the best DT in the draft.

14. Carolina Panthers: Patrick Willis LB

The Panthers are torn between Willis and TE Greg Olsen, but go with the best LB prospect in the draft to add a big bolster to their defense. A great steal who probably should have been taken earlier, IMO.

15. Pittsburgh Steelers: Leon Hall CB

New coach Tomlin probably wants to incorporate the Cover 2 into the Steelers defense some, and they need some overhaul at CB anyway. Hall is a solid choice.

16. Green Bay Packers: Greg Olsen TE

Packers get a steal after the Panthers pass him up, so Favre has another big target to throw to. They still need a RB, but in this day and age they're pretty easy to plug and play, so they can address that need later in the draft, say Round 2.

17. Jacksonville Jaguars: Reggie Nelson S

The Jags need to address the safety position, and find a great prospect in Nelson sitting right there for them.

18. Cincinnati Bengals: Chris Houston CB

Good, character guy, who addresses their need for CB and represents the kind of player they want in the organization after their awful troubles with the law last year.

19. Tennessee Titans: Robert Meachem WR

Titans find a WR for Young to pass to, while also picking a local prospect who went to Tennessee for college. Sounds like a win-win to me.

20. New York Giants: Lawrence Timmons LB

Giants get an OLB they need in the raw Timmons. He has crazy upside and could be one of the steals of this draft.

21. Denver Broncos: Dwayne Jarrett WR

Shanahan does another Draft-Day surprise and helps bolster his new QB's receiving corps by adding the TD machine Jarrett. Cutler-Jarrett could end up becoming a great tandem in the league, and I think Shanahan's move pays off.

22. Dallas Cowboys: Michael Griffin S

The Cowboys have had a lot of issues at Safety in the past few seasons, and they hope Griffin can be the answer.

23. Kansas City Chiefs: Ted Ginn Jr. WR

The Chiefs try to finally get an "elite" receiver, and pick Dante Hall 2.0 in hopes of giving new life to their aging offense.

24. New England Patriots: Paul Posluszny LB

A perfect fit for the NE defense, Paul is the long term answer to their aging LB corps. He has great instincts, intangibles, and work-ethic, which are exactly what Bilicheck likes to see.

25. New York Jets: Darrelle Revis CB

The Jets get the CB they need. He had a great workout at the combine, and should be a solid player.

26. Philadelphia Eagles: Adam Carriker DE

Carriker falls far, and the Eagles pick him up. It's a surprise, but Andy Reid values the D-Line a lot, and the elite safeties have already been picked.

27. New Orleans Saints: Aaron Ross CB

They need help in the secondary, and they get it in Ross. He can also be a decent return man, although Reggie Bush probably retains that job.

28. New England Patriots: Jarvis Moss DE

Another perfect fit for the NE defense, Moss can play the Adalius-esque role of DE/LB.

29. Baltimore Ravens: Joe Staley LT

With Ogden nearing retirement, and the luxury of being deep and pretty much every position, the Ravens can draft their LT of the future.

30. San Diego Chargers: Brandon Meriweather S

The Chargers don't have many needs, but safety could be considered one of them. They reach a bit and take Meriweather, who combined with Merriman, will make a very Merry defense. Sorry, I had to go there.

31. Chicago Bears: Jon Beason LB

With the Lance Briggs situation still out of control, the Bears draft their REAL linebacker of the future in Beason.

32. Indianapolis Colts: Anthony Gonzalez WR

Polian pulls a fast one, and goes offense over defense yet again. Gonzalez is a great route runner with tremendous speed and sure hands, and will fit perfectly with Peyton and the gang. Plus, with Stokely gone, and all their other proven WRs being UFAs, they desperately need depth at the position. Justin Harrell would be the favorite at this spot, but the Colts tend not only to go against the grain in general, but also draft offensive playmakers over defensive role players.

Hope you guys like it...I realize there are some big drop offs for some players, and it's not all that different that most, I guess. But whatever. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the comments guys. All ideas/criticisms are welcome :-D

To the two people who had problems with it, I'll try and address my mindset. I think the 49ers could go WR early because as I said up there, they need more targets for their young QB. They're definitely focusing on getting a great defense, it seems, but I think they need a game-breaker on offense to be a continuous deep threat and put points on the board.

I also realized KC needs to address the offensive line, but picking Staley seemed like a reach even for the Ravens a little bit, let alone KC. Plus, it seems like they haven't had a true elite prospect at WR in a long time, and Ginn's the last remaining one of the "fab 5." Definitely wouldn't surprise me to see them address the needs you mentioned, though.

Again, thanks for your comments! I appreciate all constructive criticism so be sure to tell me what's on your mind.

I can't see the Pats taking two first round LB's at this point. One or the other plus Meriweather would make more sense...

I dont think the Bears will be taking a LB round 1. They have much bigger needs than at LB where they have the best LB in the game. That then leaves Jon Beason for the Champs who WOULD NOT pass him up.

I thought about that, too. I don't see Moss as a "LB" per se, more a DE who can back out and switch to a 3-4 on the fly. Still, it's a good point, and that's probably one of the first things I'd change.

Colts undervalue LBs and never draft them early. Whether or not it's the right choice, IDK...but that seems to be the Polian and Dungy mindset. Plus we can find perfect fits for our Cover 2 in the third round, with Quincy Black, Rufus Alexander, and a handful of others. LB isn't a very big issue.

There isn't a single player on the Pats defensive line that is over the age of 28. DE really isn't a need, so taking Moss and not moving him to LB would kind of be a waste considering we play a 3-4. That is unless the Pats plan on letting Ty Warren walk...

If the Broncos were to take a WR in round one, they would take one with a unique skillset, as they already have a similar player to Jarrett in Brandon Marshall. Ginn would most definitely be the pick, because he is also a gamebreaker on special teams. Still I feel the Broncos would rather address their line if Carriker was on the board, and he would undoubtably be the pick there.
