Default Post a trade

There aren't a ton of great trades in the NFL, but there are usually at least a few in the offseason. What trade do you think makes too much sense not to happen?

For me, its Morris Claiborne for Nick Fairley. Detroit has too much invested at DT and not enough at CB. Dallas OTOH, desperately needs difference making(ideally young) DLs while man to man cover CBs aren't at a premium in that Marinelli, Tampa 2 based defense.

Claiborne has been a bust in Dallas. I can understand the Lions dealing Fairley but not for a backup CB.

Bust is way too harsh. He started to show his potential towards the end of his rookie year, and then they completely changed schemes(which is tough in itself on a young player) to one that didn't fit his strengths.

Fairley has his own warts. He's been very up and down and his weight fluctuates a lot. He's still very impactful, but like Claiborne he has question marks to go with his talent. Claiborne has an extra year of team control left too, so that is a factor in his value.

For once I agree, that would be an interesting trade and likely help both teams and both players.

I absolutely know nothing about trade values, so someone on here may have to figure out something for me on my behalf. This is going to sound over the top because it's for an opposing team within my division, but I believe if Hakeem Nicks does not return to New York via Free Agency they should make a move for Kenny Britt ASAP.

Player for player trades don't happen to often (usually player for draft pick). But since you asked:

RB Chris Johnson from TEN to NYG for QB Ryan Nassib.

The Titans are trying to trade Johnson, and Nassib got lost behind an established starting QB. I'm not sold that Jake Locker will ever get good enough to be the answer in Nashville, and Nassib could win the starting job there. David Wilson hasn't been that good so far, although a lot of the blame could be the offensive line.

From what I've seen, there are a lot of things David Wilson can't do. He can't catch. He can't block. He can't break tackles.

But there is one thing he can do very well. If he makes it to open space, he can run for an 80 yard touchdown and nobody has a prayer of catching him.

So why would the Giants wants Chris Johnson?

Justin Blackmon to the Patriots for a 2nd round pick. It gives the Pats what they need, a legitimate number one receiver that is cost controlled for at least 2 more seasons, and gives Jacksonville a more tangible asset to rebuild with than the oft suspended Blackmon.

Why would the Jaguars, devoid of playmakers, give up their best playmaker for a 2nd round pick? Goofy.

Because there is a decent chance he never plays another down, and won't be eligible to play again until week 8 of next season? That 2nd round pick could go to any of the open needs the Jaguars have, they don't necessarily have the luxury of taking the chance to see if Blackmon's head gets screwed on straight like the Pats can. Plus, this is a pretty deep class of receivers, and the Jags have the time to be patient and develop a receiver whereas the Pats need more immediate contributions.

Not to mention that Blackmon wasn't a pick of the current regime, and they don't really have any ties to him. This kind of move is not at all unprecedented, and is actually decent value for both parties.

The Pats would never give up a 2 for Blackmon. Maybe a conditional '15 2nd.

Corey Dillon wasn't an alcoholic currently banned from the league, though.

They probably wouldn't, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't. They've had 4 quality drafts in a row, and the team is now littered with good/cheap young talent. However, since they've picked consistently outside of the top 25 for about a decade that means that they have a lot of good not great players. Taking a shot at Blackmon would give them a shot at having someone who could develop into a great player. The 2nd round pick, while a valuable asset will unlikely be the difference between a SB or not whereas Blackmon absolutely could in the off chance he doesn't get suspended again.

The Jaguars on the other hand are pretty much awful at almost every position, and need picks to rebuild the roster. They're 1 year away from having to choose whether to exercise his option or not. If they choose not to they could very well end up losing him anyways

The Jets trade the Buccaneers conditional 4th rounder back to them for Darrelle Revis.
