Default Anybody Still Think Mack Might the Pick?

For the life of me, where does Clowney fit a base 3-4? He doesn't have anywhere near the power to be a five, and I don't think anybody thinks he's a LB. On top of being a better pure football player, Mack is an ideal fit for the 3-4.

I just haven't been able to picture Clowney to the Texans the whole time, despite the media telling me it's a foregone conclusion. You can't take a player No. 1 overall if he doesn't fit your scheme.

I do not have it etched in stone in any of my Mocks because it would be too much work to construct, but I do in fact believe Mack is Houston's guy at #1.

He'll rush the passer 90% of the time and the scheme can be tweaked to fit your players.

And he can stand up - just look at the way he moves. Think Willie McGinnest.

CLowney is one of the most athletic pass rushers I have ever seen. If he isn't a fit for ROLB in a 3-4, then nobody is. Is Ware a better fit there than Clowney? Is Terrell Suggs? Were guys like Harrison and Porter? What about Aldon Smith or Clay Matthews? Mario Williams when he was in one?

Its very bizarre to me that people say that.

Khalil Mack played in a 3-4 at UBuffalo, so it would take less adjusting for him if Houston picked him. The Rams don't need a DE, so maybe they trade down to #8 and the Vikings pick Clowney at #2.

Only two hours until the Super Bowl of the offseason. I'm pumped!!

Clowney can absolutely play outside linebacker in an odd front. That's not even an issue.

Mack was never going to be the #1 overall pick. The Texans couldn't pass on both Clowney and Manziel because if either reaches their potential they would never, ever live it down.

What if Clowney turns out to be the underachiever many of us think he'll be, and Mack turns into Derrick Thomas? How would they ever be able to live that one down?

Maybe Clowney can play LB, but Mack is the prototype 3-4 OLB. If you're evaluating both for the same position, I think it's Mack, slam dunk.

Houston is trading out of the pick, so there is a chance. ;)

Because you can justify passing on Mack.

Everyone acknowledges that Clowney is a rare talent. That doesn't get you fired.
