i think we're setting up to make a run at joe haden

/ i hope thats what we're gonna do... i think the browns let him walk as aFA this year (they drafted 2 CB's high) and we're going to have a ton of cap space next year apparently...

its weird hearing national media outlets talk about what a great draft we had..

usually its "pitt had a solid, albeit unspectacular draft"

we have loads of potential with these kids... and luckily we have 4 head coaches on our staff to help mold them.

It's a huge boom or bust class for us. If half of the guys pan out, oh well, that's what usually happens, but if all of them pan out, holy crap would we be loaded.

Shazier I'm pretty confident will work out, but the rest are somewhat of a mystery.

I hope Tuitt can follow Heyward in the "wasn't as good his senior season but he's actually still really good" path. Him and Heyward could be one of the best 3-4 DE duos in the entire league.

Dri Archer panning out is more scheme wise than talent wise. Yes, he'll be a solid returner, but if we can get him to contribute more like Darren Sproles and less like Dexter McCluster, we've got ourselves a good player.

Martavis Bryant has the physical tools to be an elite receiver. I think if he works out he could be a similar player to Josh Gordon. All his numbers are better, but he's 10 lbs. lighter. Still, great player to have in the 4th.

And lastly McCullers. Huge guy, huge potential if he gets it all together, but it's definitely a project for John Mitchell.

If the vets can get Bryant to buy in and work hard to improve his craft, he will work out. Plus, he stated that he wanted to play for the Steelers badly and that Big Ben is the QB he wanted to work most with.

The late round guy I'm excited about is Rob Blanchflower. If he can stay healthy, I think he's a solid number 2 in the NFL.

With Golden, Blake, Garvin, Zumwalt, Archer - that's a good special teams core

There goes Haden, 5 years, $68 million. The value for corners is going through the roof.

Yeah, I like Blanchflower too. Many compare him to a poor man's Gronk, I think he's more a poor man's Miller. Not overly athletic, but tough and well-rounded. Similar size, too.

Hmm, not too sure, TBH. He's cheap, so that's good, but carrying five safeties might be too much, especially with a guy like Will Allen who can play defense and contribute on special teams. It'll be interesting to see if he sticks though.

Will Allen is Tomlin's favorite player. I hope Golden wins the job as the fourth S.

I think a reason why they didn't address corner earlier is the fact they expect Shamarko Thomas to be the nickle/dime corner when they go to sub packages. It's the role he had before he went down with injury that caused Allen to come back and play the rest of the way.

Yeah, Shamarko is our #4 CB in that regard, and probably will be this year even is Richardson sticks.

We've had a bad run of middle round CBs in recent years, with Crezdon Butler, Terry Hawethorne, Joe Burnett, etc. Lewis worked out and Allen is on his way too, hopefully Richardson is like them.

But teams paying so much to corners is beneficial to us, in a weird kind of way, since we don't rely on those elite CBs. We pony up for linebackers and Troy, but not for CBs, in fact I can't remember a single eye-opening deal for a CB since I've followed the team. Roethlisberger, Timmons, Woodley, Harrison, Polamalu, Brown, all those guys got pretty big deals, even Miller to a certain degree, but never a CB.

Also, DB coach Carnell Lake apparently has connections to both Shaquille Richardson and Jordan Zumwalt from his UCLA days.

Pipe dream, but...

Quote:
Andre Johnson doesn't plan to attend OTAs or minicamp and said he's been "wondering if [Houston] is the place for him."
Johnson mentioned the losing has been frustrating and also pointed to the fact that he's on his third head coach in 12 seasons. The soon-to-be 33-year-old has been the ultimate pro since being the No. 3 overall pick in 2003, but he might be reaching a boiling point. The Texans did nothing to upgrade their quarterback situation and arguably got worse by replacing Matt Schaub with Ryan Fitzpatrick/Tom Savage. Johnson has three years left on his deal and is set to count over $15 million against the cap. His contract would be hard to trade.
If he's willing to restructure his deal to shift a large amount to next year, when we have much more cap room, I'd be fine giving a third for him. He's old, but still very good.

Coaches are very high on Antwon Blake as well. I looked up his Pro Day numbers and he ran a 4.32, had over 20 reps and jumped 39 inches. He's 5'9 but that explosion could give him a chance if he shows it during the preseason.

Also Lake has connections to Richardson and Zumwalt because he was the DB coach at UCLA before he took a year off. He recruited Richardson but he got in trouble for stealing a purse and got kicked off the team before Lake could coach him.

I really do have high hopes for this draft class. More so than most years I think. I'm convinced Shazier will be great, I like Tuitt a lot, and beyond those two there's so much potential. That's an absolute monster of a man, Bryant has the size we've been missing at receiver.

I'm pretty pumped for training camp.

Yeah, these past two drafts have left me excited for TC.

Also, Steelers Depot has some nice stuff on Martavis Bryant regarding drops and TDs, and another draft website has a bunch of videos on all of our draftees.

So where do you think the team will go with what is set to be somewhere between $20-$30 million in cap room?

Not linebackers or safety, we're set at both IMO.

There's a lot of talent at WR, but I'm not sure if we'd sign one. Brandon Marshall, Jeremy Maclin, Michael Crabtree, Jordy Nelson, Demaryius Thomas, Dez Bryant, Torrey Smith, Randall Cobb, and at TE Jimmy Graham and Julius Thomas.

I'm sure half of those guys won't leave their teams, but there's a whole year to be excited about the possibilities.

well we'll tie up ben for his career and if worilds plays well he will get a contract as well, that'll eat up some of that $

pouncey, allen, suisham and heyward are in that area of needing contracts as well..

my guess is we take care of mostly our own, maybe look for cb help in someone like tramon williams
