It is not a major red flag but it is a minor one for teams. Teams can completely stay away from red flagged players.

Some more info:
1. Taylor Lewan threatened to rape a girl if she proceeded with rape charges against his friend (a kicker). The charges were dropped. This is his evidence as to why it wasn't true...

2. The girl Shembo assaulted ultimately killed herself. Google Lizzy Seeberg.

He was almost kicked off the team at Minnesota, and got arrested for disorderly conduct where the charge was eventually dropped. From the article I read on his background it doesn't sound like his foster parents nor Jerry Kill entirely trust him, which IMO is a pretty substantial character flag.

I get that he's overcome a lot, but reading up on his background and temperament leads me to believe he's substantially more likely to find himself into trouble than most other prospects.

I'm not sure if you're joking or not...

While none of those issues would make a player undraftable or anything, they'd certainly be taken into consideration. I guess "hanging out and having a beer" wouldn't be, but I've never seen that brought up unless it caused some other problem such as an arrest related to it or appeared to be an addiction.

Right. Ego can be a huge red flag. Same with work ethic.
Not for every team or person but for enough it matters.

Jordan Matthews - hard worker, but has an ego.

Jimmy Ward - lack of maturity.

Ka'Deem Carey - charged with assault against then pregnant girlfriend - charges dropped but maturity a question.

Josh Huff - didn't have a great support system growing up and therefore is not mature. Believe he's on the right track, but will need guidance.

Demarcus Lawrence - haven't seen many details, but Nolan Nawrocki mentioned his character and stability needs to be looked at - think he's very confident which might turn some off.

Kelcy Quarles - believe character was a concern anyway, but involved in recent Vic Hampton incident (not sure Hampton is the best guy to hang with a month before the Draft...).

Will Sutton - maturity/work ethic.

Adrian Hubbard - big ego.

A bit more on some already mentioned:

ASJ - DUI was a one off mistake, think he's OK.

Carlos Hyde - very remorseful about his mistake and again think he's OK.

Loucheiz Purifoy (and Marcus Roberson) - both just minor issues, both no real concern.

I contacted South Carolina about Vic Hampton and they elected to "pass" on my request which about sums things up.

If you do some digging, there are some good articles out there about Mettenberger and Hill - seems that Hill is the bigger risk, although he is a very well spoken young man.

Believe Lache Seastrunk just has a rather quirky personality.

I also believe Aaron Lynch there are some concerns about his support system - have read on multiple sites that NFL teams have dropped him big time after investigation (but it only takes one to take a chance on that kind of talent).
Wasn't Purifoys something major?

Yes.
He had drugs, agreed to be an informant but it wasn't official or anything then his warrant was quashed by someone...

So coaches don't like him because he had drugs and teammates won't like him because he's a snitch?

Basically. And he isn't a very good snitch at that either:

Quote:
According to the report, Purifoy was caught with marijuana and the synthetic drug known as bath salts. Alachua County Sheriff Sadie Darnell wrote in a letter to Gainesville Police Chief Tony Jones that after Purifoy failed to act as an informant an arrest warrant issued for him was quashed, and now the matter needs to be investigated.

“Based on probable cause developed by the deputy, an arrest warrant was issued for Loucheiz Purifoy for April 4, 2014, after he failed to fulfill his end of the bargain,” Darnell wrote. “The action to quash the warrant is highly unusual and, as a result, I have numerous questions as to the propriety of how this occurred.”

On the 2nd thing, does the fact that she (tragically) took her own life make him any more of a red flag than any other prospect who has assaulted a girl?

Not trying to be ruthless or anything but any assault victim *could* ultimately kill herself and unless EVERY prospect who has assaulted someone is undraftable than sure Shembo is still draftable?

Yes?
It's a little more than an alleged assault.

Those are legit issues. The post before simply stated his difficult upbringing which by itself isn't a negative. He didn't mention that people don't trust him, he was arrested, and almost kicked off the team... Those things are way more important.

Fair or not, a difficult upbringing alone would be considered as well. Teams could view it as a positive (he overcame it) or a negative (that he has a potential instability that hasn't revealed itself yet) but it would be a small piece to the puzzle. Obviously it's completely unfair to the kid as he has no choice in his upbringing (and in many cases is completely unaffected by it), but statistically somebody from a troublesome family is more likely to get into trouble himself.

Completely disagree. Teams do tons of research and testing on these guys. If a guy comes from a tough background but develops into a high character young man no team is going to downgrade him for things he couldn't control from his childhood. And there are plenty of stories of that, including Marqise Lee.

I am now hearing that almost every team in the league has blacklisted Prince Shembo. He will not be drafted.

Like I said, a lot of teams might view it as a positive that they made it out of a tough situation and came out as a great person while other guys had easy upbringings. I think it is a piece of the puzzle though and different people would view it differently.

Not for every team or person but for enough it matters.
See Quinton Patton last year - remember Bob McGinn's write up saying "carries himself with a swagger" - didn't think much of it until he fell to day three.

I was highlighting this without actually saying it when I mentioned his name earlier in the thread. Although I would love to have him in Philly, I will call out the bullsh*t within our organization if we do in fact select him because they tried to assassinate D-Jack's character for the same reason. I just want everyone to keep this fresh in your mind if Lee is available by #22 and the broadcast team indicates why he will be our guy at that moment.

Jackson still associates with known gang members as an adult. Lee was born into bad circumstances and pulled himself out of it. Gigantic difference.

Sammy Watkins had that two game suspension for drug charges in 2012. Not that it'll impact his draft stock, but some other players had their names brought up in this thread for less. Drugs may not be a huge deal, but that kind of stuff will get players suspended.
