Combine Week Mock Draft
It would be nice to see the front office make a push for Alex Mack during free agency. Doubt it happens but I am going to make the assumption that we pick up Mack or they are sticking with Kyle Cook yet another season while hoping to develop TJ Johnson or see Trevor Robinson get back to rookie season form.
Round 1 - Zack Martin (OL) - Notre Dame - I don't see us re-signing Anthony Collins (we should though). Zack Martin may end up being best player available here if both the corners; Dennard and Gilbert; are off the board. Martin can play OG or OT so that would be good to pair with Whitworth.
Round 2 - Bradley Roby (CB) - Ohio State - Roby may be the most talented CB on the board if we hold off until round 2. We need some youth at the position and we are not going to sign any free agent CB's so I can't see us not taking one in the first two rounds.
Round 3 - Kareem Martin (DE) - North Carolina - Michael Johnson is not coming back and we will likely look to add another tall and talented Defensive End to help fill the void and keep the D-Line as one of the strengths of the team.
Round 4 - Aaron Murray (QB) - Georgia - Too talented to pass on at this point. He was extremely productive playing 4 years in the toughest conference in college. At worst he is the best back-up we have had at QB since Kitna left.
Round 5 - James White (RB) - Wisconsin - This pick could be made as a player to stash away as game day inactive like Burkhead last year. If Burkhead can become active this year and take Peerman's spot this season then developing a third RB for the following year when BJGE leaves would make sense at this point in the draft.
Round 6 - Denicos Allen (LB) Michigan State - Allen isn't talked about as much as a lot of other Mich. State defenders but he was a big part of their success this season. Worth the risk here in the 6th.
Round 7 - Dri Archer (WR/RB/KR/PR) Kent State - Why not at this point? Could compete for return duties and a roster spot. Could be stashed on practice squad for a year to develop if nothing else.
