I guess Aussieland is a good place to be if you're a grown adult and living with your parents while working an average job. If you can save your money and then go to US you can open something up and be someone.

$9 for a kilo of bananas? That is outrageous. In the states they are the equivalent to about $1.50 per KG.

For a 24 year old, that is not bad. And besides, down here i could get a 10 acre property with a beautiful house for half of what it would take for a crappy home elsewhere.

Yeah, not really. When I was in high school, I was living large making $8 an hour. Now that I'm actually an adult, the $30 an hour I make is gone almost before it hits my bank account.

Nope, just me living out here. To be fair though, my apartment village has it's own sports bar, movie theater, 5 gyms, 4 salt water pools, market, Starbucks, juice it up, etc...
Plus they charge me for the stupid events they hold in the community that I never go to.
Southern California for ya :/

Yep... or the alternative is to live a long way from the city and work on the mines where the average salary is comfortably over 100k. Got a mate from England who has come over and starts next week on a job paying 135k a year and he is the definition of unskilled.

They are normally not a great deal more than that, but Queensland is the major banana producer and basically a whole season of crops got taken down by the floods there last year.

Was going to say because that would want to be one hell of a pad!
That said, it is kind of disgusting that Perth costs as much, if not more, than the freaking OC...

i think your landlords still think your dollar is more worthless than canadian money used to be. y'all should let them know it's actually a decent currency now.

The problem is how much those who work on the mines make. When genuinely unskilled labour makes 100k a year landlords can charge whatever the hell they want and not have any issues. All underwritten by the fact that buying a property is so unaffordable itself.
There also really isn't any other options, it's not like Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane are any cheaper and no on chooses to move to Adelaide or Tasmania unless they are getting paid buckets(Adelaide) or retiring(Tasmania).
Oh and don't get me started on the price of alcohol over here, it may be the only thing that can consistently make our rent look cheap. IE a Pint of crap beer is $10, a carton of Corona is $50(on sale). Grey Goose is like $65 a bottle. Not even kidding you slightly...

Nothing better to do? Everyone just binge drinks because it is the most cost effective way of drinking...

So, basically, if I move to Australia, there's like a 90% chance I'll either be killed by something poisonous or go bankrupt?

Only if you are an alcoholic...
You have to do pretty ******** **** to worry about poisonous stuff, I mean I've done plenty of really ******** crap and I haven't even come close to that happening.
We do have lots of positives, just that it is stupid expensive!

But seriously wog can I come over there, stay at your place for a few years and work at a mine?
