Yup. This really sucks. Hopefully it provides some motivation to improve depth on the DL this coming year. I'd love a right tackle too.

Terrible news. He was the best player on our D. And with Sanchez throwing already like 10 interceptions and reminding us he is a rookie, the outlook for this season just got incredibly bleak.
Ugh!

This news really is terrible for you guys, I liked you guys to make the playoffs and maybe win a game but damn, losing your 3-4 NT, and someone who played at the level Kris Jenkins did is hard to overcome. He really does make a huge difference for the entire defense.
Not sure if it will affect him any for next year but I gotta believe you guys will be drafting a replacement in the draft next year, it's a position that's way too important and you look set at nearly every defensive spot except NT.

Defensive end could use some definite help as well and corner could be a concern if Lito leaves. Plus pass rushers haven't been getting to the QB, so while I don't think they go after one early it is possible. But I would definitely agree that DL is the major concern on that side of the football. Unfortunate that nose tackles don't exactly grow on trees.

This sucks. I knew we weren't going to the bowl or anything this year, but I wanted some upward momentum. The sad thing is, as young as we are in some positions, we're so old in others. Faneca, Woody, Ellis, Douglas, Jenkins are all 30+. As many other people have been saying, our line needs rejuvenation fast. I honestly don't see us being much better next year, especially with Jenkins coming back off a major injury. I'm guessing 7-9 for us this year, and maybe 8-8 next year. After that is all going to be determined by how our lines shape out. I mean, skill positions we're young, Sanchez, Cotch, Washington, Greene, Revis, Rhodes, Lowery, Keller, Harris, Braylon, Pace are all 28 and under. So three years from now as our lines are HOPEFULLY set and had time to gel, we should still be good at the skill positions.
Everyone together now: build the trenches, build the trenches....

I did a little research...since he only has 6 posts I looked at all of them. He had some pretty popular posts in the NFL forum and then this one was pretty solid as well. Looks like a solid addition to the Jets fans on this site. On that note, welcome to the Jets forums, Dexter!

If LW is hurt for an extended period, which doesn't seem unlikely, that's really rough for this year. At least Shonn Greene is looking nice, he's had a really good burst thus far.
Edit:
After a few losses, that was nice. And Shonn Greene looked fantastic.

At the rate Lito and Braylon are going, the Jets are going to have their first two picks this upcoming draft.
First the Jets best defensive player, then arguably (its a strong argument) the best offensive player on the team in back to back weeks.
I'm glad to see Greene dominating like that, but losing Leon is big.

Jets are the NFLs leading rushing team......
Is it looking like Leon is done for the year? a broken fibula? Hmmmmm
Greene looked good. Offense looked really bad in the first half. Didn't get to watch the second half.
Also Revis is awesome.

It sucks that Leon is out for the year but hopefully Shonn Greene can lighten the blow. Greene looks like the real deal. He runs with a purpose. Hopefully that wasn't the last game in green and white for Leon.
Nice to see Clowney step up in the absence of Cotchery. That was a great catch in the endzone. I wonder if he returns some kicks now with the loss of Washington.
The Raiders have proved that the injury to Jenkins is huge. They couldn't run outside on us but they broke off a lot of long runs up the middle.

I feel bad for Leon being that he turned down the extension. I think all of us were hoping that he was signed to that extension. But it just goes to show you how quick life can change. I guess the moral is take what you can get when you can get it.

It's a shame the Jets are getting hurt. As a Bills fan I naturally dislike the Jets but not nearly as much as the Dolphins and Pats though.

I just read somewhere that the Jets may sign Justin Miller. I hope they do. Personally, I think Miller is just as good or maybe a better returner than Leon.
I wonder if Woodhead moves back to RB and we bring in a real WR.

I bet Woodhead does a little of everything. Wouldn't be shocked if he gets some time on KR's also. But he probably will stick at WR since there's a reason they moved him there, must have some potential and I'm sure they want to give him a shot.
Miller is an interesting possibility. I wouldn't mind really, and I agree he's probably as good or better than Leon, particularly with the new rules. I think his superior strength and straight line ability could fit a little better, though I could be completely wrong. I'm not Mike Westhoff.
And thanks for the kind words, SK. I feel the same way about the Bills, probably because they seem to be a franchise that's been a little snakebit in recent years since I've started hardcore following football and it's hard to really hardcore dislike a team that just hasn't had the best of luck.
EDIT: Looks like Miller was signed. Lets hope he does well on KR's.

I like the Miller signing as long as he never sees the the field as a CB

Amen to that.
Kind of out of left field, but after Scott's blog post I figured I'd ask. Lets say we have a mid first round pick in the 2010 draft and we take Terrence Cody. How would you guys feel about it?
Obviously a risky pick and NT is not the biggest need (though definitely a need), but it adds some beef and somebody to spell Jenks, plus big guys like that don't come around all the time and I bet the defensive coaching staff finds ways to get both on the field at the same time with Jenkins' athleticism. I figure this is something where people could go either way and lots of people either love or hate Cody, so I'm curious to see what everybody thinks.
FWIW I'd be alright with the pick. I think at that point with the position kind of up in the air for this team but being such a critical position to run the 3-4, the potential reward is probably worth the gamble there. I wouldn't love the pick, but it definitely would be a reasonable one IMO.

How would Jets fans react if Vernon Gholston and this years #2nd round pick was traded to Arizona for pick #24?...
This is for the Forum mock and I am just about to pull the trigger.

I don't know how everyone else would feel about it but I would be happy with that trade. I have had enough of Gholston.

I don't think its a risk at all. NT is the most important position on the 3-4 defense IMO and the Jets simply can not afford to be without a good one. Add in Jenkins age and I would love if the Jets get the insurance policy and eventual replace right now.
Worst case scenario you have two massive athletic defensive linemen, one of whom can be put at end a la Haloti Ngata. I wish the Jets had traded for either Shaun Rogers or Marcus Stroud in addition to Kris Jenkins and I always wonder what would have happened if the Jets had done that. If the Jets drafted Cody, I think I would find out.

If there is someone you think the Jets could use who would be available at 24, pull the trigger. The current Jets FO has never been afraid to trade up and a move up from the 2nd round to 24 would be the most Gholston has ever given the Jets.
