How come you are always at weddings??? Everything with you is weddings... you even sent me that funny youtube wedding, remember??? hahaha....

From now on, you are "The Wedding Singer". :p

I didn't see the game either. But why does it seem like Desean Jackson has a better connection with Kolb than with Donovan? Same with Celek?

Eagles traded Brandon Gibson and a 5th round pick for 29 year old linebacker Will Witherspoon of the Rams.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091020/...les_rams_trade

He is a WLB/MLB in the Eagles scheme, he is more athletic than Gaither and is fluid in coverage and can actually cover a TE or a RB AND he is a good blitzer. Overall I think he is a solid fit within the scheme and he can start right away (which he will for reasons I'll show you in a minute) because he is coming from the Rams where Spagnuolo is the coach and he runs the same scheme the Eagles do.

Overall the deal is good and I like it in terms of success now, but I liked Gibson and Witherspoon is 29 years old. I actually think St. Louis is getting a future starter out of this deal because Gibson was really looking like a steal and he should form a nice 1-2 punch with Avery.

Also Omar Gaither is seeing a foot specialist and is not expected to play against the Redskins.

I remember a few years back when he was about to be a FA and I wanted the Eagles to get him soooooo bad and cursing for a good hour or so when he signed with the rams. Its a good thing hes coming from Spags' D so he should be ready to start within a few weeks. Also I was just thinking what does this mean in the long term for the entire LB core

I really like Witherspoon, he is a former dawg. He will be a good quick fix for us at MLB since Gaither's gonna miss some time. As for after this season, he could be a good option to trade for a position of greater need, or we will shift him to outside LB once Bradley returns from injury.

Im not sold on Will being a rental player I think he is here for at least another year. Also with Gocongs contract coming up Will could stay inside with Stu moving to SAM or maybe Akeem isnt getting the job done in the eyes of the FO and he goes to the WILL spot. Im really jumping the gun here on all this considering he still is yet to practice for the team.

all these trades for players, and FA pickups is very uncharacteristic of Andy Reid.

Look at all the FA/trades he brought in:

Stacy Andrews
Jason Peters
Will Witherspoon
Ellis Hobbs
Sean Jones
That white DE dude who was a bust 1st round pick
Michael Vick
Leonard Weaver

I think some of these pickups were very solid, its just uncharacteristic of Reid. He's rarely a big player in getting name FAs.

The eagles under AR have never been afraid to pay big money for a FA ex Jon Runyan, Jevon Kearse, Darren Howard, Asante Samuel. There are probably more but my memory is crap

Jeez, this board is slow! What are there, like 5 eagles posters who post consistently?

Anyways, Victor Abiamiri is out for the Redskins game and replacing him on the active roster is going to be Jason Babin.

EATW usually does a pretty good job at keeping up discussions here, but I haven't seen him post much lately.

As for Abiamiri, I hope he can turn his career around and do a better job at staying healthy in the future, but I can't see him as a long-term starter. He is a career backup/ situational player to me right now, and I would love to draft a stud DE to line up opposite Cole next year.

Game of the season for the Giants against you guys. I think we need this game more than you do.

Although its pretty big for both of us.

I think Philly wins it, right now, until we get healthy and our WRs can prove they can beat the press on a consistent basis, Philly is easily the better team.

I'm very optimistic going into this game with the way we've been playing lately. Losing Shawn Andrews for the season was huge.

And yes Sniper Witherspoon and Jackson beasted it yesterday. Any news on Westrbrook yet?

Yea, been lots of things going on with me recently, but among other things, having a gf will reduce posts a bit... lol. Had lots of other things going on too. I've tried to get in here every once in a while so you guys don't think I'm dead, lol.

But to recap last nights game... DeSean is the smallest beast ever, Witherspooon is my boy, Bunk is beast-tastic, and I can't wiat till the Giants game!. Philly is gonna be crazy Sunday!!! I wish I would be there...

But the Giants game is gonna be the typical classic... Two great D-lines against struggling O-line units. (Eagles unit seems to be struggling more, IMO) Couldn't pick a winner right now, but will favor the Eagles, lol ;). obviously a good measuring stick for two teams. If this game is very competitive and a well executed game, I say both teams will come away as favorites int he NFC, no matter who wins...

The keys to the game will be the same as they've been the last few years. Getting/Preventing QB pressure, and, for the Eagles, how to control the Giants run game. The Giants will have to find a way to neutralize the Eagles receiving weapons... (That is one slight difference, lol)

The Eagles are 4-2 which seems really good if you don't watch the Eagles games, but look at who they've beaten they've destroyed the Panthers, Chiefs, Buccaneers and Redskins, some of the worst teams in the NFL. And they were steam rolled by the Saints and Raiders who should've won by much more and would have had anyone but Jamarcus Russell been starting.

But, where do the problems lie? The offense, yes the offense that was supposed to be the best in the NFL is struggling. It certainly isn't on the defense who are allowing a league leading 4.4 yards per play, they're playing out of their minds.

The combination of Andy Reid's play calling, McNabb's inconsistency, injuries on the offensive line and a fragile Brian Westbrook have left this offense in a horrible spot. Andy Reid is calling an extremely one dimensional offense right now and by one dimensional, I mean passing. The other teams are dominating the Time of possession because Andy is calling pass after pass, and just in case he hasn't noticed I would love to point out that McNabb is in a huge slump right now and the only reason he isn't getting picked off his because he throws so off target the defensive back can't even get it. And McCoy wears down for some reason, I am getting the impression that he is not a workhorse back at all. Right now the big play is this offense, just look at the plays where the Eagles have scored, 6 of 10 passing touchdowns have come from plays of 35 yards or more, the biggest run of the season was DeSean Jackson's and he now has 1 of 3 rushing touchdowns from non-QBs and it was on a 65 yard reverse. And on special teams DeSean Jackson has scored on a 85 yard punt return. This offense cannot drive to save their lives and they now live and die by the big play. DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin have scored a combined 6 of 15 offensive touchdowns each of them from over 40 yards. 2 offensive touchdowns have come off of quarterback scrambles. This offense is so unproductive right now, they're 17th in the NFL in YPG and they're 22nd in the NFL in first downs a game and they're only converting 34% of third down attempts. This offense is as futile as I've ever seen in Andy's tenure.

So basically, DeSean Jackson is the offense right now single handedly putting up 5 touchdowns (3 receiving, 1 rushing and 1 punt return). DeSean might be the most explosive player in the NFL, he just flies. Most guys aren't supposed to be able to do what they do in college in the NFL, DeSean is doing the exact same things. He is lightning he can make someone miss with one twitch . He flew past the entire Redskins defense twice and he makes it look effortless and quite frankly he might be impossible to cover one on one right now because no one has been able to stop him with one player so far the teams that have tried to cover him with one player are the Redskins, Saints and Chiefs and he burned them. The teams that have doubled him have been the Panthers and Buccaneers and they shut him down but he opened the offense up for everyone else, did anyone else notice the running game's dominance in the Panthers game when there was a corner and a safety on DeSean at all times? I did. Did anyone notice how good Maclin looked when he got one on one looks when the Buccaneers shifted all their coverages DeSean's way? I did. This guy is the Eagles offense.

And while I'm talking up young receivers, Maclin might challenge DeSean Jackson for best receiver fairly soon (not best playmaker). He has been running nice routes, making tough grabs, fighting for the ball and he is going over the middle as well. I really like what I'm seeing from Maclin. Also he should have 6 touchdowns instead of 2 and he would be undoubtedly the best young WR in the league if McNabb or Kolb would stop missing him. Here I will give you specifics, Against Kansas City Maclin was running a slant over the middle and there was no safety over the top and Maclin was wide open for a sure touchdown and Kolb threw it behind him, in the redzone Maclin had a step on his man and Kolb overthrew him in the endzone, against the Raiders McNabb had Maclin wide open deep and McNabb overthrew him and against the Redskins Maclin was WIDE open but McNabb didn't look to his side of the field.

The Eagles NEED to attack the Giants deep, it is a necessity the Giants have Webster who is no where near as fast as DeSean and across from him Maclin will be matched up with wither Aaron Ross or Terell Thomas both of whom are good but Thomas isn't fast enough to stick with him and Ross gets burnt to a crisp often. Also their safeties are awful in coverage and the Eagles should attack them deep because that is the clear weakness in the Giants defense now that Phillips is out. The Eagles need to attack attack attack against the Giants pass defense that cannot cover Maclin and Jackson deep. That is what I think is going to be the key to the offense because doing that will open up draw plays for the run, open up underneath routes to Avant and Celek and overall it would make the Giants defense back off and create more space for the Eagles offense to work with. The defense just needs to get to Eli, easier said than done but Sean McDermott brings some of the craziest blitzes in the game so I think it can be done.

Also the Eagles defense is one of the best in the league right now.

They're allowing only 4.4 yards per play (#1), have a 30% conversion rate (#4) on 3rd downs, lead the NFL in sacks a game, lead the NFC in interceptions, have only allowed their opponents to score over 17 points once, are only allowing 3.5 yards a carry and are only allowing 6.3 yards a catch, both of which are top 7 in the NFL (rushing 6th and passing 7th).

I think the Eagles have the advantage in this game.

If you think about it, everything about both our teams is a wash, except you have better playmakers on offense.

qb, oline, defense, run game, its all a wash.

The only difference is you guys have a beast in DeSean, and we have serviceable but not spectacular WRs.

Thats why Philly gets the edge.

The most interesting battle to me is DeSean vs Webster. Webster has been absolutely amazing. He even shut out Larry Fitzgerald. I know Fitz had 77 yards, but none of them minus a 5 yard quick slant were on Corey. Corey shut him down.

So it should be interesting to see him matchup vs Jackson. I personally think Corey can take him, but Jackson is so explosive and can get you in a number of ways, so who knows. And its not like Web will be on him the entire game, so the few opportunities Jackson gets against a zone he should be money in the bank.

I don't think the Eagles will win, I think they could do it but I don't think they will. The offense is just awful right now aside from DeSean and Maclin, the offensive line will be destroyed Justin Tuck might set the new sack record in a game while going against Winston Justice who cannot handle power moves to save his life. Basically I don't think the offense will do anything to put points on the board. I think the game is going to be a defensive battle that the Giants will win just because their offense can sustain drives.

we can't run the ball at all. and our WRs can't get consistent separation against a good trio of CBs like Arizona (esp against a trio that Philly has), so we're in the same boat.

And you have Westy and McCoy to catch out of the backfield. And Celek.

If we don't have Boley or Canty for this game, I can see you guys winning rather handily.

Westbrook might not play. McCoy's pass pro vs. NYG's DL = me pooping my pants.
