Well, it's official. Washburn is gone to the Eagles.

He's getting the hell out of Dodge. Might as well take a premier position now than wait another year and be kicked to the curb with the rest of the staff.

We should be able to keep assistants after firing the head coach, though. But for whatever reason, the Titans offer yearly contracts that are renewed every offseason rather than longterm deals. Had they chosen to give guys like Washburn or Munchak longterm deals, they possibly could have been retained. It's too late for that now. Wash is gone, and Munch isn't gonna take a contract considering the state of the Titans (unless he's just that loyal to the organization he played for.)

Also, if the rumors of the rift between Justin Wilcox and Chuck Smith are real, and Smith may be leaving after signing day, then I'd love Smith on the Titans. He deserves as much credit as Wash in turning Albert around. Hell, Smith said that Albert's technique was horrible, which is a poor reflection on Wash.

Oh, and I'm not sure I want a QB anymore. I'd almost rather be the worst team in the league next year, send Fisher off, and allow the next HC to take Luck 1st overall and restart the franchise like that.

I'm definitely off of the QB bandwagon as well.

This is a sinking ship. Jeff Fisher will be gone after this year so there's no reason to draft a QB now.

The job will be a lot more attractive next offseason with a top pick and a chance at Barkley or Luck.

No chance we go 1st with CJ. Too many points in his legs.

We went 0-6 when CJ was blowing up, and ended up 8-8 with him racking up 2,000-yards. We went 6-10 this year and he's going to the Pro Bowl (albeit, as an alternate), and the team will be even worse next season. RB success just isn't indicative of team success.

Plus, this is a streaky team. We win and lose in spurts. I could see them starting out slow and go on a losing run to end the year. Below average QB play, poor OL, and an average defense doesn't bode well.

The only chance we have is if we hire Chuck Smith and Albert hits FA. Smith will undoubtedly bring in Albert, more so than Washburn would. After all, Albert chose to work out and be coached up by Smith. He was forced to under Wash, no matter how good their working relationship was. Albert would raise the level of defense up, allowing us to rely on a stout defense and strong running game to win games. But we'd be in the position where we'd probably miss the playoffs and get a middle of the pack draft spot.

I honestly don't see how this next season could go well unless we make a Drew Brees type FA signing. Our defense could perform better next year if JJ stays healthy, Derrick Morgan is 100% recovered from his ACL and Chuck Cecil is fired, but all three are long shots.

Its gonna be a crappy off-season(except for the draft) and crappy season. Jeff Fisher needs to resign or get traded, people seem to think he is a great coach so we could of got a pick for him to bad most jobs are filled. Sucks losing Washburn and why the **** is chuck cecil still here

Mike Munchak is probably the only coach left on the team worth a damn.

I was ok with Heimerdinger up until this season. Play-calling got pretty bad this year IMO.

I still like Dinger, we were one of the top 3 scoring offenses before the whole VY/ Britt issues. I still think we have some of the most unique run designs in the league, its just that our interior line can't block worth a poop.

Yeah, I'm fine with Dinger. It's difficult to lose your starting QB, and even your #2 QB at one point, your #1 WR for a string of games, your OL being incompetant at times, and be able to maintain a consistent offense, all while battling cancer.

Oh, and Derrick Morgan apparently is vouching for Vols DL Coach Chuck Smith to replace Wash. If the rumor about Smith being forced out by DC Justin Wilcox is true, then he's the guy I want. Even if it's for just a year, I think he'd be great for our young DL.

Titans defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil was informed on Thursday he won't be retained by team.

So this makes two coaches that have taken other jobs and one that's been fired.

Thank god Cecil is gone. Better served as a position coach in my opinion.

I like it, but all these staff changes, maybe we should've started from scratch with the coaching staff at this point.

We still have some good ones. Munchak, Dinger, and our LB Coach, ole whatshisface. Cecil was a great DB Coach, but DC was too soon for him.

I like the proactivity, though. But I'm like Steph, where do we go from here? We need a Defensive Coordinator, RB Coach, and DL Coach, but will any top flight guys will come due to Fisher being on a boiling hot seat? Is this Fisher trying to save his job and stay with the Titans?

The offseason just got interesting.

When I asked if he agreed with decision on Cecil, one Titans player told me "He was playing checkers and OC's were playing chess." - Jonathan Hutton

He also said he thinks Dave McGinnis will be elevated to Dcoordinator.

I would'nt be upset with McGinnis at all, I thought he should have had the job in the first place.

Apparently, one of the people that's getting serious consideration for the new Titans' D-Coordinator job is ex-Browns (and ex-Jets) head coach Eric Mangini.

Personally, I wouldn't mind this move. Mangini has always been a decent X's & O's guy. The big knock on him has always been his personality. But, as someone who watched a LOT of Browns' games this year, I can attest that he seemed much more laid-back this season and his players seemed to rally around him and play well (which didn't happen in NY, where he seemed too concerned in emulating Bill Belichek).

Two things scare me with our current personnel: 2 Gap DL and 3-4 front.

Mangini runs both.

Would still be better than Cecil at the helm, though.

Think we could do well in a 3-4 front if you ask me. We are missing some pieces but could be fun to watch and if we draft well, we could have a GB type turnaround although probably not AS good.

Michael Griffin to the Pro Bowl.

EDIT: Seems it's been that way for a while. He was 1st alternate, so when Polamalu and the Steelers won today, it was guaranteed for him to go. But apparently Griff got Ed Reed's spot after Reed dropped out a few days ago, so Polamalu's spot goes to the 2nd alternate, Eric Berry.

According to Jim Wyatt, Mangini is unlikely to be hired due to the lack of 3-4 personel the titans currently have. However he still has an outside chance to be hired, I assume to run a sort of hybrid 4-3.

On the note of the draft, I'm split on whether I want the team to draft a QB versus try to upgrade the defense. I'm leaning 60-40 on the defense idea. Blaine Gabbert has that prototypical build every coach wants, but he would be a project entering a season were there could be little practice time due to the strike. I also feel that Fisher is unlikely to put his fate in the hands of a rookie so he is unlikely to go that way. I guess I would look toasted Von Miller, Marcell Dareus or Akeem Ayers

I think at this point I'm hoping for a trade down. I might an hero if we draft any of the top 4 QBs in this draft.

Also, the more I thought about it, the less Mangini made since as defensive coordinator for us. I'm willing to bet McGinnis gets promoted.

McGinnis is the right move. We'd have to blow up our defense for Mangini. We don't have the personnel for a full blown 3-4, and we don't have the DT's for a 2 Gapper. If we ran a hybrid, it's a 2 gap both ways. So we'd have a sucky 4-3 and a mismatched 3-4.

A 1 Gap 3-4 Hybrid is doable. A lot would still have to be done, but it's doable.

Maybe is there was a Raji or legit, can't miss 3-4 NT in this class. But there isn't. The switch for Green Bay is so smooth because of Raji and Matthews. They were able to land the two cornerstones of a DEF in one round. We don't have that opportunity, unless Phil Taylor is the real deal (I know tons are high on him, but I don't know much about him). Von Miller + Taylor would be our best bet.

Oh, and if we went to a 3-4, Babin is definitely gone. And who knows how Derrick Morgan would fit, as he'd probably move to OLB.

Oh^2, our zone-coverage CB's would probably have to play a lot more man-coverage. Finny could do it, but he struggles in man against big WR's. ATV is a great zone guy, and putting him in man takes away his biggest strength as a ballhawk. McCourty's physical talent would allow him, so he'd probably stay the same, but he's not a starter anyway.

But hell, if we blow up the defense, might as well do it entering the clusterfuck of a year we're heading into.
