While a 2nd rounder would be great, I'll take having 4 solid cb's over that pick this year.

I've been watching Mario Butler, and he looks like he could fill in great as a backup. With that 2nd rounder next year, we could get a really good starter, so I'm not as satisfied as you. Can't complain too much though. I won't hamper over it. It is what it is.

It actually gets me pumped up. And the catch at the end was the kicker!

Adrian Hamilton just got cut.
http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowbo...drian-hamilton
Quote:
IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys released promising undrafted rookie pass rusher Adrian Hamilton, according to a source.
Hamilton, a product of Dallas’ Carter High who broke three-time Pro Bowler Robert Mathis’ SWAC single-season record for sacks last year at Prairie View A&M, got caught in a numbers crunch at outside linebacker.
DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer are established starters. Victor Butler is a solid backup whose role could be expanding, and the Cowboys invested a fourth-round pick in Kyle Wilber. Alex Albright, a second-year player, is one of the Cowboys’ best special teams performers and also has the advantage of being able to play all four linebacker positions.
The Dallas coaches and front office had questions about Hamilton’s ability to contribute on special teams, a must for a backup linebacker.
Hamilton, who fought through knee and wrist injuries during training camp, would be a prime candidate for the Cowboys’ practice squad if he clears waivers.

Hopefully Hamilton clears waivers, he is a guy who has raw ability and can get after the QB. A 4-3 team looking for a him a situational pass rusher would probably consider him as an active roster candidate.
I'm also thinking Orie Lemon might get the axe in the upcoming cuts. He admittedly isn't the best special teamer and would be the 4th or 5th ILB on the roster. Alex Albright brings the flexibility to play inside and outside LB in the base defense which might make Lemon expendable.
edit: non confirmed cuts per ESPN
* FB Shaun Chapas (per source): Seventh-round pick spent most of last season on the practice squad before a late-season call up to the active roster.
* LB Adrian Hamilton (per source): Dallas Carter High product got caught in a numbers crunch at outside linebacker.
* QB Rudy Carpenter: "Thankful for the opportunity Dallas its been great!" he tweeted.
* LB Orie Lemon (per source): He returned an interception for a touchdown in the preseason finale against Miami. The Cowboys hope to bring him back to the practice squad.

Offense (8)
QB Rudy Carpenter, WR Danny Coale, FB Shaun Chapas, OL Pat McQuistan, Daniel Loper, Harland Gunn, Jeff Adams, Ron Leary
Defense (4)
OLB Adrian Hamilton, ILB Orie Lemon, DE Clifton Geathers, DE Ben Bass
At the current count, that's 12 of the 22 cuts that have to be made, so there are still 10 to go.
Per BTB....

It is sure going to be hard to get some of these guys through to the PS... Coale, Leary, Hamilton, Lemon and Bass are all guys that might find their way to other teams.

Sucks that Hamilton got cut. The guy has a ton of potential that I hope it doesn't come back to haunt them. He's raw, but the tools are there. It's understandable how he got cut since Albright is more versatile. Plus you really gotta play special teams well if you're a linebacker that's not getting major snaps.
I liked Ben Bass a lot in the opener. Didn't see much of him after that.

I'd rather lose Anthony Spencer than Hamilton to be honest. Right or wrong... I don't care.

The team picked up Ryan Cook from Miami for a 7th round pick, Costa is to remain starter at this time. I hope this means goodbye to Arkin.

I don't know much about Cook but when I read the news I was just excited to bring in another interior offensive lineman. That alone makes it a serviceable move. I don't know that I wanna let Arkin go so fast, isn't this only his 2nd year? Let's see what we see out of him over the duration of the season.

I'm game for the Cook trade. A solid veteran at center is a good thing.

Arkin has shown absolutely nothing in his two years, granted his first year was a "redshirt" season. He has shown that he does not have the strength or footwork to play at this level. There was a play in the Dolphins game that he was practically launched into Rudy Carpenter. If he doesn't get cut today he will definitely be cast away once Kowalski is healthy enough to come off of the PUP.
Quote:
IRVING, Texas – It isn’t clear yet whether the Cowboys’ trade for Ryan Cook means that David Arkin will be cut.
But it does appear that Arkin, a fourth-round pick who was inactive for every game as a rookie, will be added to the list of Cowboys mid-round offensive line busts.
Drafting and developing offensive linemen has been an issue for the Cowboys for well over a decade. Just since Jason Garrett’s return to Valley Ranch in 2007, the Cowboys have cut a couple of third-round tackles (James Marten and Robert Brewster) during their second season.
Tackle Doug Free, who played well enough to earn a four-year, $32 million contract, is the one notable exception to the Cowboys’ trend of mid-round misses on offensive linemen. Perhaps Arkin could follow a similar path as Free, a fourth-round pick who was active for only one game his first two seasons.
It’s just hard to envision the Cowboys relying on Arkin after this preseason, when he averaged about a penalty per quarter.
It isn’t really fair to hold Arkin’s struggles snapping the ball against him. He had never played center until the first week of training camp, when he was the emergency solution after a rash of injuries at the position.
If only snaps were Arkin’s biggest problem ...
The primary concern about Arkin is still his lack of power. That was painfully apparent on back-to-back plays in the second half of the preseason finale against the Miami Dolphins.
Playing right guard, Arkin just got plain whipped by two different Dolphins defensive linemen fighting for roster spots. Undrafted rookie Isaako Aaitui got under Arkin’s pads, pushed him back five yards and planted him flat on his back at the feet of the quarterback on the first play. Seventh-round pick Kheeston Randall beat Arkin for a sack the next snap.
The Cowboys were going to be looking for interior offensive line help anyway. Those plays simply illustrated why, and how far away Arkin is from being able to help the Cowboys.

I tend to lean more on what Braoddus says and his take is a bit more optimistic on Arkin. I think he still needs another year in the weight room, but I think there's talent there and he has a mean streak. He just needs to get the body to go along with that mean streak. I think they give him one more year.

Sounds like the definition of a practice squad player to me. Open up a spot for someone who can come in and contribute.

Doesn't matter if they cut Arkin to me. I'm already looking at next year's draft and FA for our future in the interior OL. Ryan Cook sucks too. Calling him an upgrade is more of an indication of how bad we really are.
I haven't seen this team under Jason Garrett favor interior OL players. They went cheap in the draft/UDFA and they went cheap in FA. They must have a philosophy that those positions don't matter as much when it comes to comparing them to other positions.
I just hope one of Livings, Bernadeau or Cook can provide a surprise and lock down a starting job for years to come. All 3 won't.

Broaddus seems to think they won't make a play for Koppen.
I like the idea of Koppen, but is he the same player?
