This game reminded me a lot of the Tampa Bay game. A win is a win, but stupid mistakes all around kept it from being a sure thing like it should have been.

We need to resign Spencer. I don't care if he doesn't get double-digit sacks, he's a great player all-around!

Welcome to sanity. Lots of folks around here wanted to give Butler the starting gig. Spencer has been generating pressure without losing his normal elite run defense.

I've been defending him since he was starting in 2009. That year he put up a stellar year that would've been a Pro Bowl year if people weren't so caught up in sacks. I think he declined a bit in 2010, but he's been consistently good all around as opposed to being a specialist in one area. My main concern with him has been attitude like the rest of the D, but if they can resign him at a good price I'm all for it when you look at how well he plays. I think the bigger question is if you let Butler walk to groom Wilber since Butler is practically a guy who specializes well in one thing while being a huge liability in one area.

I think what you see is what you get at this point with Butler. He is certainly a nice pass rusher but I don't see him progressing enough in other areas to be a reliable fill in. I have a feeling we'll be spinning the mid-round roulette again aiming for a high potential guy to groom behind Ware.

Defense is certainly looking good although I can pretty much guarantee we'll be targeting and linked to every available safety this offseason.

Dallas Blog

Jason Garrett coached scared in crunch time. He can talk about trusting his defense until he's blue in the face, but he looked like a coach who was afraid that his offense would make a catastrophic mistake. Why else call for a run up the middle on a third-and-9 in the red zone when your team trails by one point late in the game? The Cowboys got away with the ultraconservative play call, but it's a classic case of coaching not to lose. That approach blew up in Garrett's face last season in New England. The Cowboys' defense also looked confused way too often.

Sums it up, no?

I wouldn't mind if they kept Butler around as a specialist since he's familiar with the system. He's good at rushing, but the problem is everywhere else. He doesn't jump out on special teams to make his presence felt, and he got the opportunity to really prove his worth with Spencer down for two games. In those two games he could have shown a lot, but his one dimensional weakness makes me see why they picked up Wilber. Wilber seems like Spencer in the sense where he's versatile, and I'd rather have that. Sure Butler could probably get double digit sacks if he started all season, but there would be a lot of blown plays as well. When you consider that double digit sacks is only 4 more plays every year from Spencer's usual sack production of 6 that's not really worth it.

Cool. Let's stick together. lol Spencer is a lot like Greg Ellis. I remember some people didn't realize how good he was most of his career until he finally got double digit sacks. I used to call him Michael Strahan lite because they were similar players, but Strahan was an outright beast where Ellis was very good as opposed to racking up some sacks and not being a factor much outside of that.

Did anybody else chuckle when Felix had to come out like 1 carry into the game? Lol. It's kinda hilarious to me. There was a 0.000001% he came out of this game without being on the injury report the week after, he needs to just run out of bounds as much as possible.

I also agree with everyone else on Spencer, I think that may have been D who hated him a bit lol not really sure. I had been saying all off-season if he leaves someone will pick him up and be very happy about his play. His sack numbers are the only reason people aren't paying as much attention to him but once you wrap you mind around that's not really his game, you notice how many other things he does well.

That said I don't know he's worth an extension though, I'd rather sign a Guard.

I will admit I was one that was against bringing him back.

While, I would still disagree with your comment about him being a 'great' player, I think he is solid to very good and I would be in favor of resigning him.

However, I think we still need the caveat of how much is it going to take to sign him.

I don't know how much stock you put into ProFootballFocus stats..but he continuously grades out in the top 5 in his position. That's..."Great", imo.

Not "Elite" though. But how many teams have 2 elite pass rushers that can also play the run well?

Gonna be a great game this week. Dallas's defense is very good this year, I'm curious to see how our WR core does against them this time around. We need Nicks to bounce back, he's still limited so I expect Carr to handle him pretty thoroughly.

Clairborne has been great so far. I think coverage wise, you guys have an answer for our offense. So I expect it to be a battle. Our teams are very evenly matched on paper.

For us, I think there are two key items. Will Lee be able to play and will we be able to run the ball some. If those two are positive answers, I think we can win.

Look, the NFL is a week to week deal. This game could be great or it could be a blow out. Who the hell knows.

I'm also curious to see how Fewell decides to attack your interior OL. Last time, he put JPP inside and hoped he could create inside pressure, but it didn't work. I hate when he does that bc JPP is so much more effective as a RE. We should never move him around, but whatever.

Fewell doesn't like blitzing, so I expect more of the same. We'll see lots of DE action inside, some stunts. Most likely see some JPP at DT. I'd like to see them blitz the A gap all game long but he won't do that. So it will be interesting to see how your interior OL holds up to our DEs who get kicked inside.

Your run game like you said is the ultimate equalizer. If you can run and force us to keep some of our DEs off the field in our nickel packages, that will help a lot. I think your outside WRs have to take advantage of their matchups too.

We'll give you a lot of umbrella looks. I like Austin in this matchup.

Clairborne has been great so far. I think coverage wise, you guys have an answer for our offense. So I expect it to be a battle. Our teams are very evenly matched on paper.
Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!! A Giants fan came in saying it's going to be a good game. That's the usual kiss of death around here. lol

Eh, I expect us to get dismantled. Maybe it'll work out that I'm completely wrong, but the Giants are rolling and we are reeling. If it's a close game we have no shot of winning. All the Giants do is win close games, literally every time, there is no way around it. Everyone trust Eli. We've seen what we do when the game is close, and that's do everything possible to not win.

Dez will get hurt again returning punts, then we'll all wonder why he was doing it in the first place like it's a surprise, and Demarco won't be 100% even if he does play. 24-13 Giants is what I'm sticking with. Nothing we have seen lately shows we should or can win other then being optimistic for the sake of believing.
