Old thought. Been griping about the odd fit of our CBs in this scheme ever since the Kiffin hire.

No good when Romo is taking 14 sacks in that game because the Interior is crumbling.

Swings and Roundabouts dude. We might have been able to get pressure on Manning but we definitely kept pace for the entire game offensively with the players we did get.

As bad as the d was on Sunday and against the Chargers, Denver is averging 46 per game. We are 2nd and 15 pts/game behind them. Unbelievable.

IRVING, Texas -- It is easy to second-guess Tony Romo's fatal interception from a fan and media perspective in the fourth quarter of the Dallas Cowboys' gut-busting loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

But coach Jason Garrett did not second-guess the decision.

He was direct and said Romo should not have targeted a pass to rookie tight end Gavin Escobar, instead, he should have dumped a pass off to running back DeMarco Murray who was running underneath.

"You know, I think when you evaluate that, he probably should have come down and thrown the ball to the back," Garrett said. "It’s a play that we know. We’ve seen him make throws like that, in between defenders in the zone, a lot. He made a few of them in this ballgame. But I think when you reflect back on it, you say, when you felt that a little bit of pressure on your left-hand side, kind of slide in the pocket, find DeMarco Murray. It was second and I think 14 or 16 at the time, cut the distance in half, make it a manageable third down and then go from there. You know, those plays happen in split seconds, and you saw something that he liked. He cut it loose. Their defender made a good play. It was a difference-making play of the game."

As he should....he's called everyone out from Ware/DL not getting to the QB, to the Rookie WR's and Safeties, to 2nd Year CB's in Claiborne, etc, etc.

Romo shouldn't be absolved. He played a great game, literally one of the best games I've seen him play...and there's a whole bunch of reasons the ball was picked(Escobar rounded his route, Leary pushed back and stepped on Romo's foot, whatever).

End of the day...the coach pointing out the best play would've been to the safety valve is the right thing to do.

Here's my food for thought...

With Julio Jones out possibly for the season, NOW is the time I approach the Falcons and see if they want to swing a deal for Miles Austin. Who's with me?

I agree....except....why would they give up a draft pick to replace an injured WR with a often(and currently) injured WR?

I don't think Austin is going to be out too much longer. The first game back we should make him look like a Pro Bowler and follow that up by trading his ass.

Just so everyone knows, we are the first and only team in NFL HISTORY to score 48 points and lose. Also for everybody whos so giddy about our O-line and how great they are supposedly playing

Quote:
Through five games, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has been sacked 13 times. In each of the last two seasons, Romo was sacked nine times through five games.

And the jump in sacks allowed isn’t a product of more pass attempts. Romo has dropped back to pass 201 times. Through five games in 2012 he had 196 drop-backs and 202 in 2011.

The Cowboys haven’t improved their rushing offense either. They’ve rushed for 461 yards and two touchdowns. Through five games last season, they had 498 rushing yards and two touchdowns. And remember, the Cowboys finished 2012 with the lowest 16-game rushing total in franchise history (1,265 yards).

If the Cowboys are so confident in their offensive line they would run more. The Cowboys have only 103 rushing attempts. That’s 18 fewer than they had at this point last year when they tied a team record for fewest rushing attempts in a 16-game season of 355.

The Cowboys are on pace for only 330 rushing attempts. They’re in position to make a run at the NFL record for fewest rushing attempts in a 16-game season of 304, set in 2006 by the Detroit Lions.

http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/20...nt-story.html/
More sacks and still cant/wont run the ball. Our line is decent but not top 10 like some folks on here are acting like.

At Center??? We did? Who?

I mean come on bro. The Cowboys look like geniuses right now for the way the OL has been playing and how they put it together.

They're starting an UDFA at LG. A 1st Round Center who many bashed them for taking so early. Pulled a guy who hasn't played in a year out of retirement to play RG. ...and the most hated Cowboy player, Doug Free was brought back and the Cowboys got him to restructure. Every move was controversial, yet they are playing lights out! All we've been harping for here over and over again on offense was OL, OL, OL... now that it looks like it's working good, you want to complain about it and say "We had other options to fix it! Why didn't we fix DT!!!"

That's such a tired and lazy complaint. Get over it already. Tyrone Crawford was hurt in training camp. He was someone we had been banking on being here.

The worst part about it is that Floyd hasn't even made an impact for his team yet. While clearly Frederick and Williams have!

Show me the stat on how long Tony Romo is holding the ball when he drops back. Then we can talk about the amount of sacks he's taking.

His pass protection is so much improved it's not even funny. The run game is a byproduct of play calling, run design, lack of a FB and the reliance on TEs to run block (without having the ability to), so it's hard to pin that part on the OL. When we've seen a REAL commitment to run, we did run well (see STL game).

The worst part about it is that Floyd hasn't even made an impact for his team yet. While clearly Frederick and Williams have!
Crawford played in 16 games and had 20 tackles. Thats who we were "banking on" and yet he seems to get a rookie pass but Floyd doesnt? And please dont tell me you'd still take a good LT over an all pro DE that many consider to be the best in the game. Go back and read YOUR off season wish lists of all the guys we could have picked up in FA to improve our line. There are many.

I'll admit Tony has had more time than in past years but hes also made many plays under duress after a guy gets pushed back into him or is beaten. Its not all on him holding the ball to long. As far as us running the ball on the Rams, who doesnt lol. Weve had 1 game out of 5 where we ran well and that was against the sorry Rams.

IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys released veteran safety Will Allen on Tuesday.

Allen started the first two games of the season before he was replaced by rookie J.J. Wilcox prior to the Sept. 22 win against the St. Louis Rams. Allen was credited with 17 tackles to go with an interception in the season opener against the New York Giants and two pass deflections.

The Cowboys have not decided how to fill the roster spot.

Allen was signed to a one-year deal worth the veteran minimum salary benefit worth $840,000. He received a signing bonus of $65,000, and $555,000 of his base salary was guaranteed. Allen played for defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin and special-teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia in Tampa Bay and was viewed as a solid locker room presence.

The Cowboys have four safeties on the roster in Barry Church, Wilcox, Danny McCray and undrafted rookie Jeff Heath. Church suffered a broken nose in last week’s loss to the Denver Broncos but will not miss a game.

Now you're not even making sense. Your thoughts are totally scrambled.

In approaching the draft, we already had a guy in Crawford to provide us with some DT depth and promise. He was already here! We spent a 3rd rounder on him! That's why we could bank on him.

Now you want a rookie pass on Floyd??? What happened to him being the missing piece in being able to defeat Peyton??? You've still not even grasped the fact that Peyton was getting rid of the ball under 2.5 seconds. No DL is gonna get pressure on him unless he held onto the ball longer than that.

My offseason FA wishlists (http://draftcountdown.com/forum/show...8&#post3312418) for OL weren't really that many, nor did it include an upgrade at C via FA. Why do you keep missing that point? I'll keep asking you until you answer, but who did you want us to sign at C? How did YOU want us to fix our OL? My plan was to go for Brandon Moore... and we DID! For whatever reason he didn't want to play anymore, but getting Brian Waters filled my exact same hopes there. I also wanted to cut Free and draft a RT (ie. Menelik Watson) or sign Eric Winston, but the Cowboys looked like they did the right thing by restructuring Free and challenging him to be better. Not having his dead money will help us salary wise. The best thing was for him to step up and play better and for us to pay him less and thankfully we got that so far. In the draft I had hoped to say that Johnathan Cooper was our starting C, but he got snagged up way early. Interior OL was our biggest need (everyone could admit that) so when we took Frederick, I was ok with it because we addressed it. Nobody knew how it would work, and the doubts were many, but I had to be pleased with the way they followed their process and I'm super stoked to see them be right about it! TF has been a Godsend!

Sure I wish we had taken Watt instead of Smith, but that's looking at it with hindsight 20/20. The draft just doesn't work that way and I'm still very happy with Smith. Nothing there to moan about at all. Still happy with the pick! Could I be a little more happy? Who cares? We got our LT! I bet 100% that if we took Watt and we were still here wondering why we haven't fixed our OL that the crying and moaning would be just as potent.

How you can blame the Cowboys woes on not taking Floyd is simply amazing to me.

He made plays under his own duress he caused by holding onto the ball so long.

...and now we can't run because of our OL... ya don't think it could be pointed towards the playcalling, game plan, or run designs that involve using TE's like Escobar and Hanna to block or the fact that we have no FB?
