Clutch Romo is clutch. Marinelli needs to be DC unless Lovie is coming.

Nice to see plays by BW Webb and Everette Brown on that last series.

These guys that Marinelli keeps bringing in off the street keeps amazing me. If Brown (former 2nd rounder) can take advantage like Selvie (who btw is responsible for stripping Ponder for that defensive TD) then maybe we can scratch DE from our mock drafts!

One more week of clutch Romo hopefully coming our way!

Still inconsistent. What I want is Blowout Romo! We should've demolished this team, but I'll happily take the Win.

If Dez catches the ball on the first drive thats an extra touchdown. Different tone for the game.

Dez had an awful game. Williams wasn't good either. Romo had a great 2nd half, there's no way you can deny it.

We need to find some way to get the running game going. Blueprint to beat the saints is to run it down their throats.

By the way that was Tony Romo leading the Cowboys to a 90-yard game winning drive in the final 2 minutes of a game

You know it was a great stretch back by Dez to even touch the ball. I think what you meant to say is that if Romo throws it in front of him that's an extra touchdown. That wasn't the only bad ball thrown to him all day either.

Dez did have the ugly ugly drop that was right in his hands though. He made up for it on the last drive.

Entire offense looked hit or miss today. We were able to survive versus the lowly Vikings, but this cannot be the standard that people seem to be proud of today. I'm still disgusted by the struggles we had. Lots to learn. If the defense doesn't score that TD, we're losers today.

Once again we are one dimensional. We had 36 yards rushing. Let that sink in. Murray had FOUR carries. Then you factor in sacks, hurries, drops, penalties. This Offense is a mess. Dare I say Garrett was better than Callahan?

Garrett was the same as Callahan. We're far better starting the game this year under Callahan. Both guys forget we have a running back when behind.

Again the defense wasn't great they did an adequate job but the offense (both coaching and players this week) made this much harder than it should've been.

They better be prepared to capitalize on scoring opportunities next week.

Drive #1 - tackle for loss, poor throw
Drive #2 - tackle for loss
Drive #3 - sack, sack
Drive #4 - tackle for loss, dropped pass, sack
Drive #5 - Touchdown
Drive #6 - penalty
Drive #7 - dead ball penalty that takes team out of field goal range
Drive #8 - dropped pass, penalty
Drive #9 - interception
Drive #10 - Touchdown

Guys want to know why our Offense isnt clicking? 3 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, and I read we had 8 dropped passes. Add in the penalties and a turnover and it leads to a frustrating day.

Quote:
The Cowboys rank near the bottom of the league in sustained drives (10 plays or more) in 2013 after ranking dead last in 2012. They cannot grind you down to a fine powder, and one reason is that they have a hard time running that many plays in a row without a self-inflicted wound.
Quote:
But, let's understand what we are looking at here. A tackle for loss on a run play is often not a mental bust, but being physically dominated at the point of attack. Same goes for a sack, where a man just cannot get and win his block. This is all starting to point back again to that familiar tradition around here, which is entering November with a feeling of impeding doom about the state of the offensive line.
Quote:
DeMarco Murray, for instance, carried the ball 4 times the entire game. Since he broke one for 27 yards, we can assume that he was going to be able to accomplish something more if they offered him a few more opportunities, but it appears that the 2 or 3 negative runs early in the game spooked the Cowboys out of even trying. This is a characteristic that reminds us plenty of those games in 2012 (Cleveland, New York, Washington, in particular) where they design a game-plan all week that is balanced and sound, then on game day, when there is a sign of frustrations from players, coaches, or even the stadium seats, they scrap it all and go shotgun the rest of the day. It is a weird thing to criticize, because although it destroys all balance and renders your planning as pointless, it eventually helps the Cowboys win the game by putting things back on Tony Romo and the playmakers to put the necessary points on the board. And, until proven otherwise, that is the best option for this offense. But, it is that same crutch that might keep them from ever improving to a team that can consistently win.

I know some like to Blame Romo for EVERYTHING but its so clear that our O-line sucks STILL/AGAIN. Just no way around it.

That's cause he holds onto the ball so long and our offense is so predictable. Minny knew when to blitz and when to stack the box. When you don't run the ball except on clear short yardage situations, then it's easy to tell what the offense will do. Yeah, there were some drops, but Tony's passes weren't always on point either. I don't blame Tony for everything and he did a good enough job yesterday. The way you glorify him we should've blown out a team like Minny, but we barely squeezed by. I blame Garrett more for that, but Tony has to be more dominant in leading this offense. Yesterday we were pressured and we made no adjustments. I don't know if we ever do make in game adjustments. Seriously.

Dallas — Three Performances of Note

Run Fits

Quite simply the Cowboys don’t win this game without the play of Sean Lee (+2.3) and Bruce Carter (+3.6). It felt like they were in every single hole all day long. They had to be, though, because the defensive line couldn’t seem to shed blocks. Lee was exceptional working off of fullback Jerome Felton and shutting down Peterson at the point of attack. The middle linebacker had an impressive six stops and a run defense grade of +3.4. Carter made a living getting to the point of attack before lineman had a chance to even lay hands on him. On multiple occasions he was just too quick for lineman responsible for sealing him out at the second level and he made three stops in just nine run snaps. One has to wonder if Carter should be seeing snaps in base defense after another poor game from Ernie Sims (-3.3).

Overmatched

Doug Free looked like the best right tackle in football through the first six weeks of the season. He hadn’t had a game graded below +2.0. The last three weeks he has reverted back to the old inconsistent tackle Cowboys fans knew all too well the last two seasons. On Sunday he was beaten repeatedly by Brian Robison, allowing nine total pressures, the most we’ve ever seen from him. Inside, outside, spin, bull, you name it, he was beaten by it. By the end of the game he finished with a grade of -3.7, his worst on the season.

Coming From Nowhere

If you were watching one of the Cowboy’s division rivals this preseason you may not have been surprised by what you saw on Sunday. Everette Brown played in 94 snaps with the Eagles this preseason and delivered the highest pass rushing grade of any edge rusher at +6.3. His four sacks, one hit, and five hurries in just 35 pass rushes surprisingly weren’t enough to earn him a spot on the Eagles, or any team for that matter. That is until he was signed by the Cowboys just last week. Brown, who hadn’t played in a game since 2011, dominated Matt Kalil. He recorded a sack, a hit, and four pressures as well as a forced fumble on the last drive that almost ended the game. He did all that in just 20 pass rushes. The Cowboys may have very well found the answer to what they were looking for since DeMarcus Ware went down
I didn't notice Carter that much, but I guess he had a nice game. He's always been a good run stuffer and blitzer, but too bad we don't play more run heavy teams because against passing teams, he gets toasted still.

If Free has another bad game, then I'll really start to credit Waters with Free's improvement.

Everette Brown sounds like a stud. I wonder if we got another huge steal there!

I'm glad more people are bringing up what I kept screaming about yesterday with Sims and Carter.
http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2013/...d-bruce-carter
Quote:
When Bruce Carter struggled covering Danny Woodhead in the Cowboys match up against the San Diego Chargers, people began to question whether he was a bad fit for Monte Kiffinís defense, in spite of all the excitement about his potential in the off-season. As a result of Carter's poor performance against San Diego, veteran LB Ernie Sims started to see more and more snaps at the Will LB spot, even receiving the start on Sunday against the Vikings.

The coaches love Sims aggressiveness, which can be a great trait for a player if he can keep it under control. However, his aggressiveness has continually gotten this defense in trouble. Against Detroit it was Sims who vacated his underneath zone, biting on a play-action fake by Matt Stafford, which left Brandon Carr out to dry resulting in an 87-yard catch-and-run on a slant route by Calvin Johnson. It was also Sims who missed multiple tackles, and was juked by Christian Ponder to finish up the Vikings first touchdown drive.

Meanwhile, earlier in Sundayís game Bruce Carter made a clutch 3rd down tackle to force the Vikings into a 4th and 1 situation, which the defense, including Carter on an assist to Sean Lee were able to get the stop and force a turnover on downs. He made several other vital plays in the game and played the majority of the second half, tallying 6 total tackles including 5 solo tackles. Philadelphia took 4 or 5 shots at running the wheel route with RB LeSean McCoy against Carter, after seeing him struggle against that route vs San Diego, but Carter was able to stick with McCoy step for step on most occasions and not give up any plays.

Iím hoping the coaches finally get it in their film review Monday, and put the better player on the field full-time.

I totally agree on Carter. Sims looked lost most of the time on sunday.

Carter has played better, but let's not forget why he ended up platooning in the first place. The way he's handled the situation in the media and the way the coaches seem to be looking to replace him all the time leads me to think maybe he's not well liked by the staff. You get the same feeling about Murray, the way Jerrah called him out last week saying he could have played.

I'm having nightmares about Jimmy Graham..lol
It's clear he's gonna kill us all night sunday, hope Sproles doesn't play, that can help but to me this game comes down to controlling that TE.

We're gonna need to have an effective run game as well, if thats possible.

And give dez his opportunities because he went off on them last year, as long as he can hold onto the ball we may have a shot.

Yup. I don't have any confidence in our defense to contain the Saints passing attack. The way to beating the Saints is by establishing a strong run game, and I don't have any confidence there either.

So I hope Romo can be on point like he was against Denver and that our defense can continue to come up with turnovers.

We haven't been blown out yet, so that gives me enough to cling onto. Been really excited for this game since the schedule came out. Monte vs Rob. Coming into the season the Saints defense was supposed to be terrible, but they've played tough and Rob currently has them ranked 5th in the NFL in Total Defense. *my insides are burning* Meanwhile Monte has us 31st in the league! Woohoo!!! Hey, that's an improvement! We're now 1 yard better than the Eagles who are dead last! YAAAAY!!!

SAINTS DEFENSE:

Total yards: 5th (333.1 per game)
Passing yards: 5th (211.9 per game)
Rushing yards: 26th (121.3 per game)
Third-down conversions: 6th (34.7 percent)
Red-zone touchdowns: tie-21st (60 percent)
Turnovers (takeaways): tie-10th (15)
Sacks: 9th (26)

COWBOYS DEFENSE:

Total yards: 31st (419.2 per game)
Passing yards: 31st (305.2 per game)
Rushing yards: 16th (114.0 per game)
Turnovers (takeaways): tie-2nd (21)
Sacks: tie-13th (23)

Yeah, I think this is hilarious. If Carter doesn't know why he was benched then he's a moron. Wanna know what you need to do in order to stay on the field longer? Play up to your potential. Cover Sproles/Thomas/Ingram.

D-Unit I enjoy it when you do things like this :)

The team last year struggled against the pass while not generating pressure or turnovers. This year the team still struggles against the pass (SHOCK) but generates turnovers and sacks. We are halfway through the season and we have 6 more turnovers compared to ALL OF LAST YEAR and 3 less sacks. IN HALF A SEASON.

If you want to tell me that yardage is more important than splash plays I'll listen but also laugh at you.

Rendering a judgment based on the Saints D with Rob vs the Dallas D with Kiffin is silly given that Kiffin didn't leave the Saints to join us. Compare last year versus this year. Rob's defense was atrocious last year while Kiffin's gives up more yardage but has delivered on the promise to generate more sacks and turnovers.

*shakes head*

This coming from someone who cheered for Kiffin but wants to see him gone at the end of the year for Marinelli/Smith/anyone who will play press-man on the outside.

I agree that it's not comparing apples to apples (I got those stats from an ESPN blog post), but when you compare how NOR's defense is doing compared to how they did last year, that gives you a better idea about the job Rob is doing.

Saints were dead last in Total defense. 31st against the pass and 32nd against the run. Their dramatic improvement speaks to Rob's credit. I know you don't like to hear it, but I don't think you can deservingly bash the guy.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/te...ense/year/2012

When you compare what Dallas did last year to what they are doing this year, the same can be said. Last year we finished 19th in Total defense. I don't think we'll come close this year. I do love the take aways and I do credit that to coaching and scheme, but right now we're still giving up way too much ground against opposing offenses.
