We should trade Dez since we don't use him.

We have been below average on third down all year. 0-8 tonight is a guaranteed loss.

Almost guaranteed he'll be back IMHO. I think we may get lucky and get a high quality OC though :)

Seastrunk would be an awesome weapon to have but I'm not sure of the cost. I think spending a mid rounder on De'Anthony Thomas or LaDarius Perkins would be a better bet.

Kiffin should be fired tonight. How many times has teams gone for 600+ on them this season in just 10 games? It's not going to get better, and you can't bring him back next year with such a poor performance. Might as well get what little you can since Marinelli wouldn't stick around with Kiffin gone at the end of the year.

I don't know much about Perkins. Thomas is too light for my liking. Seastrunk has better mass. I know what you mean about the cost for him though. Especially when you look at the mess this team is in right now.

Just depends on if he'd be used a lot. If he was used like the Saints use Sproles then the investment is worth it. If he's just another option for Romo, but is looked away from if he appears covered, then no way.

:P Why were you expecting this to be close? We only had Ware to generate pressure and he's hurt. The only way to make Brees uncomfortable is to collapse the middle and the only player to survive this long into the season who can do that is Jason Hatcher who is too injured to play.

Unless you guys were expecting two UDFAs Micah Pellerin and Jeff Heath to play like pro-bowlers I'm not sure how you expected this defense to have a shot.

We also lost two of our starting linebackers in Lee and Durant.

Admittedly I thought our offense would put up a fight and this would end up like the Denver game but that is asking a ton.

There's no excuse for the offense. They just got beat by a well coached defense that had the perfect game plan. Not exactly a star studded group there coming off a season last year when they were the worst in the league.

It really seemed like going into this game that the team would step up and perform well, especially the offense. But that side of the ball is completely broken right now.

Keep in mind last year they were without their head coach as well. The entire team played like crap.

Payton returns and they look glorious again. Not a coincidence :)

Rob certainly took his knowledge of playing against Garrett and schooled him. It's a shame Rob couldn't manage to do that when he coached for us :/

It is tough to really blame the defense when they essentially were playing with 4 1/2 starters. I agree that Kiffin might not be the long term solution but the guys in place are playing hard, especially along the defensive line. I'd like to see Marinelli get a swing at running the defense or better yet gauge the interest of Lovie Smith to keep the framework of this scheme but with an updated playbook. Regardless we need to get healthy and add pieces to become more effective which isn't going to happen this season.

Offensively I have to scratch my head again with the predictability and ineffectiveness to move the ball. We started the game with creative runs with lineman in space which lead to open running lanes and space for Murray to attack. Then for some reason Callahan switched back to Vanilla A/B gap runs into a stacked box. Rob made it a point to take Dez out of the game with double press and bracket coverages which should have lead to nice opportunities to elsewhere. T-Will had drew safety help when he ran deep routes leaving a cover "0" look in center field. Common sense says hey lets run some seam routes against man coverage to bust a big play in the middle of the field. Maybe that will make Ryan to take the extra DB off of Dez or free T-Will up for more 1vs1 downfield. No lets run Witten on 5 yard drag routes in tight coverage from Vacarro and the same option route the defense has seen from Beasly for the last 4 weeks. It would have been a good night to see Escobar get some work since he would probably been matched up against a linebacker with no help over the top.

I hate to say it but I don't want to make the playoffs. I wouldn't mind shutting down for the season. We don't have the talent to be consistent and 7-9/8-8/9-7 does nothing for us going foward. We need to continue to add good talent and the best way to do that is through good drafting.

Quote:
2/9: Catches by and targets to Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley. Since watching Tony Romo make the Denver defense pay for playing a fairly straight man-to-man back in early October, rival defensive coordinators have decided to switch it up. The general strategy has been to double Dez Bryant and Jason Witten and dare the Cowboys to beat them with Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley. In the weeks immediately following the Denver game, these two youngsters looked capable of making teams pay for that strategy, gathering in 20 balls on 22 targets against Washington and Philadelphia.

However, in the last three weeks, their production had dropped off significantly. Against Detroit, Minnesota and New Orleans, Williams and Beasley have been targeted 38 times but have only 13 catches to show for it. Unless they can raise their targets-to-catches ratio to the earlier levels, the Cowboys passing game will continue to struggle...especially on third downs.
Yep. If you want to beat our offense jam Dez at the line and immediately bracket him with the safety.

How do you beat that? Put him in the slot. Put him in motion. Line the slot man up at the LOS and allow Dez a few steps before a jam.

Media tried to bait Dez into making an issue out of his targets and he refused.

Additionally more highlighting of how the Saints played coverage wise.

Quote:
The Saints were so committed to containing Bryant that they double-teamed him like he was a gunner on the punt team – two defensive backs jamming him at the line of scrimmage – on one play.

“They doubled him the entire game, really,” Romo said.

Oh, and Romo wants the record to reflect that the protection played a role in Bryant being a highly publicized observer for most of Sunday night.

“Usually when you double, you’re doing to have to run some routes that are double move-ish,” Romo said. “They take a little more time to get open, so you have to have time to be able to do that. Things like that play a role.”

My wording was off, not talking about pulling starters to purposely lose games, simply saying it does the team no good to limp into the playoffs as an 8-8 team and get bounced in the first round. Sometimes you have to be bad to get better especially in the salary cap era. I'm not going to root for my team to lose but I understand that sometimes it is a necessary evil for improvement.

Pedictions for the rest of the season:

W @NYG 21-17
W OAK 28-14
L @CHI 35-21
L GB 42-28
L @WAS 31-24
L Phi 34-31

The rest of our slate is winnable games. Depending on the healing process that might be a Rodger-less Packers which makes it much more appetizing for us.

The division games are the most important. I think 8-8 or 9-7 (depending on which games are wins) takes the division this year.

I do 100% agree with you that no matter which team from the East advances to the playoffs they are going to get beaten by the best WC team.

I'm willing to bet that once in the tourney the boys are capable with competing with any team.

They are also capable of being blown out by any team.

I never want to see my team lose, even if it means one and done in the playoffs.

I love how Jerrah is always a quote machine after a loss. What an embarrassment he is.
