Yeah, you'd assume he'd be gone and they'd move marinelli up. But I could ask the same of Jason Garrett.
The only possible excuse they could have for keeping him would be that they feel it was more on the players than on his abilities as a coordinator. Everyone thought he'd be gone by now, but who knows with this organization.

And yet Ryan got the boot for the exact same reason.

And perhaps thats the reason they're holding on yet, they may have learned that now, it's not the coordinator but the players, I don't know.
I thought he'd be gone too. But they maybe taking all the factors into consideration this time, players abilities, injuries etc, before making a hasty decision. So as not to scapegoat as they did the previous season.
Just trying to make sense of it, because it's interesting and I also assumed he'd be shown the door by now.

Glad Boniol is gone, he was killin us..lol

Oversimplifying. Ryan got the boot because Jones & Company wanted turnovers and a transition to a 4-3 base. Ryan did a nice job in New Orleans but even with healthy teams Ryan defenses have never been known for generating turnovers. Personnel definitely let him down here but we had a recurring theme of our defense folding in the clutch.

Reportedly wants to be a ST coordinator and we weren't willing to promise him the job if Rich leaves to be a HC. I don't blame Dallas at all. STs coverage used to be atrocious and we look to be turning the corner with Rich.

So we have replaced one crap coordinator with another. Whether it's lack of turnovers or 4,000,000 yards and points put up against us. It's still not acceptable.

I like Boniol for what he is. Kicking specialist. I'm not sure how he would coach special teams as a whole as if I remember correctly. He wasn't doing too much until we asked him to come aboard

It's funny how things turned out. Before the season special teams looked to be a big problem because they looked like crap in the preseason. By the time the season hit they were better and more consistent than the offense and defense. Bisaccia really did a great job last season.

Absolutely no argument there. Honestly at some point you have to blame the personnel too. Neither Ryan or Kiffin had a whole lot of talent back there. We need a solid draft.

Absolutely. If Bisaccia gets a HC job, he's interviewing for pretty much every opening, I'll be genuinely sad.

Here's the fun part. According to multiple sources Kiffin was signed on a 1 year deal. So he wouldn't be part of the team anyhow...

That is unless it was bad reporting and he actually is under contract. Not a single site has the information confirmed which is maddening.

I've also read a few places that claim the two sides are just hammering out a new non-coaching role for Kiffin.

Mike Fisher of CBS Sports and 105.3 The Fan, the Cowboys are apparently working on a plan to have defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin retire from coaching.
Saw a couple mentions of "Consultant" floating around.

Broaddus also said that he isn't sure Marinelli wants the DC job. No sense in forcing a promotion if he is only going to leave next year. How do you guys feel about Jim Schwartz?

I think he would want a HC job or would join up with someone he has relationships with. Don't see that with Garrett. I've always liked his swag though.

If Marinelli doesn't want the DC job then what about promoting Eberflus? It seems to me that if this story is true then they're going to hold on to Marinelli regardless while Kiffin is pushed into retirement. Eberflus has a lot of experience, and he's seen as a future DC. Maybe this can be his one year shot to see if he can handle the duty.

I wouldn't mind keeping an eye out for Raheem Morris if he doesn't get the promotion at Washington.

Raheem Morris is expected to remain on staff, possibly having a larger role in directing the defense. His contract expires in February, but a person close the situation expected that new deal to be finalized soon.

His contract is expiring so there is a chance. Although signs are starting to point toward a Kiffin return according to Broaddus:

@BryanBroaddus: “@MyRlhayes76: @BryanBroaddus so is Kiffen really gonna keep his job after having the worst defense in Cowboys history?” I believe so

Per ESPN:

For the first time since 2008, somebody else will put together the Dallas Cowboys' NFL draft board.

Will McClay, the assistant director of player personnel, will handle those duties this spring.

Tom Ciskowski, the director of scouting, had produced the board the past few years but things moved into a different direction starting last year.

McClay and Ciskowski split between handling pro and college duties. Ciskowski had been in charge of pro and college scouting, but the Cowboys wanted him to concentrate more on the college game.

Ciskowski is still a valued member of the front office and last year interviewed for the then-vacant general manager position in Indianapolis that eventually went to Ryan Grigson.

McClay was the former head coach of the Dallas Desperados Arena Football League team, owned by Jerry Jones from 2004-08. McClay was also the assistant director of pro scouting for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011 before returning to the Cowboys in the player personnel department.

McClay is one of a few African-Americans in NFL front offices that will either finalize or assist in putting together NFL draft boards for perspective teams. Ozzie Newsome (Baltimore), Doug Whaley (Buffalo), Rick Smith (Houston), Marc Ross (New York Giants) and Ray Farmer (Cleveland) are some African-Americans in front office positions who handle draft boards in some fashion.

Been a long time comin'. Never liked Ciskowski. Glad we have a new voice in there. This could end up being a GREAT thing.

Has anyone ever put any stock into the idea that the number one problem with the current roster is that our supposed "studs" just forget how to play football when they either come to the Cowboys via free agency, or get a big new deal, or a draft pick bust, literally every single one of the guys we count on besides Dez, Romo besides the 1 or 2 horrible picks he throws throughout a season, and Witten although he is declining, all are or have been huge disappointments.

Take a look at the guys i'm talking about:

Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne suddenly couldn't cover a senior citizen running down the field, Miles Austin cares more about the weather in California than he does about football, Doug Free bounced back this year but he was awful last year, Bruce Carter has completely forgotten how to play football, Ware's body is either broken beyond repair or he's just lost it, and Sean Lee can't stay on the field.

Look at that list. I can't imagine other teams are in the same situation. Imagine if those guys played up to what we thought they would. We would probably be on our way to Carolina right now as the #3 seed in the NFC.

The worst part about it is, what do you do? With the salary cup you're pretty much stuck with them. Is it coaching? Do they just suck now? Have they quit since they all got paid? (Besides Carter and Claiborne)

Just something no one really talks about at length but I think it's the main problem of our team. The guys we were considering as our studs play like flat garbage.

Injuries. Especially on defense, everyone looks like hot garbage when half the team is street free agents. Carter wasn't nearly as bad as everyone thinks, he is best at pursuiting the ball. The offseason hype is what let us down, because of his athleticism everyone deemed him the next Derrick Brooks. Brandon Carr is a press man cover who was asked entirely too much to play off man/zone concepts. Everyone else just got banged up throught the season.

Earl Thomas would've been a monster with a star on his helmet....I've been wrong about a lot of players I wanted the Boys to draft...but Earl Thomas...I would've gave up a future 1st or 2nd to draft him. Him and Sherman allow the Seahawks defense soooo much freedom that other teams don't have.

Obviously we wouldn't have drafted Dez in that scenario...and Dez is my favorite player right now, but I'm not sure I'd be all upset if they reached for Thomas in that draft.

I don't understand how Monte Kiffin is staying. If I were a player how could you buy into that guy for another season. I hope that doesn't cause problems.

BTW Russell Wilson- 103 yards 0 TDs. Kap- 196 yards 1 TD, Brady 198 yards 0 TDS, Manning 230 yards 2 TDs.

The four QBs playing in their Conference Championship games. Pedestrian numbers but their teams won. Our Cowboys would have no shot at winning in the playoffs if Romo had those numbers. Its all about the TEAM.

These QBs and HCs recognize that in times of panic, that you don't need to pass on every down.

Nobody complains about Romo's stats because we are a pass heavy team and that will always favor his passing numbers. Romo's numbers are a product of the system. Kyle Orton thew for 358 yards and 2 TDs with one week's worth of practice playing with the starters. Does that make him better than Wilson, Brady and Manning?

Better stats mean he's better right? Isn't that the point you're making about Romo?

Not even close. The point Im making is those other TEAMS are strong in almost all areas and if the QBs arent putting up big numbers they can still win. We cant do that. So Romos in a pass heavy system but Brady and Manning arent? Lol you cant be serious.
