True, and to think that we almost traded away Tony Romo. Sean Payton and the Saints were offering us their 3rd round pick, but we wanted a 2nd. They didn't budge and we kept him.

I didn't know that, but I do know Payton was always high on him even before he got his first start, so he knew that we had a gem and Romo would actually be just as good under Payton's offense in NO, good thing Parcells had faith in our boy.

per dallas morning news...
Same article says pretty clearly that Stanback is a "Jerry favorite" but Miles Austin is the most talented of the bunch.

Emmitt should go on "public speaking with the stars." Maybe he can get some proper coaching on that too.

A three year deal worth about 29 mill would be best in my opinion. We'll see...

Don't think you're gonna get one of those...I'd expect about 6 years at 55 million. Slightly less than Samuel got, because something tells me Newman wants to stay with the Cowboys.

Who do you think is gonna wear the defensive helmet communicator? Since it should be a 3-down player, I guess it will be Hamlin.

ESPN makes me sick sometimes, I don't even know why I still watch...Their headlining "Cowboys fueding", really

This drama/jerry springer effect is so old, all this because T New answered a question about Roy in his interview and made the "deer in headlights" comment about Roy in pass coverage, which is accurate...How in the hell does that mean "one dallas cowboy calls another out", and "fueding in Big D", its pathetic...You can't even get sports news anymore, especially not with the Cowboys headlining every single thing, such a shame this is what ESPN has become.

Atleast it's almost news...the worst was when their headliner was always something about Romo and Jessica Simpson...Now, that is annoying. It's all part of ESPN's diabolical plan to get everyone to hate the Cowboys. Just keep talking about them until everyone gets sick of them. Mission Accomplished, jerks. ha. I hate ESPN and SC anymore.

If this wasn't my team, i'd hate the Cowboys too. Heck, that's how i started hating Brett Favre. All the slurping he got on ESPN made me despise the guy.

ESPN is a big crock of s**t. The only shows worth watching are PTI and ATH, cause at least they put up guys with opinions, that (most of the time) know what they're talking about. Sportscenter is just full of Puppets reading what their producers tell them. Blah.

The best part about it is that they were showing clips of Romo and TO when the ran the headline trailer.

What's a good sign that the season is getting closer? Greg Ellis starts b**ching again Whats new.

Quote:
Cowboys OLB Greg Ellis will skip the team's final day of OTAs Thursday because he's upset with his reduced repetitions.

His annual paranoia is kicking in because Anthony Spencer is seeing more reps. Ellis is justifiably worried about being replaced, but it won't happen this year. He's an integral pass-rushing piece. The Cowboys are taking it easy on Ellis because they don't want his 33-year-old body to wear down in May.

Quote:
Last week, the Cowboys told Ellis some of his practice time would be reduced to give 2007 first-round pick Anthony Spencer more time on the field. The Cowboys like Spencer's speed and intelligence, and coach Wade Phillips praised his performance in practice Wednesday. But Phillips said Ellis remains the starter.
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcont...e.3e6cf92.html

This may have something to do with the fact everyone has reported Spencer looks great and is all over the place, but whats Greg's deal? He's old, coming off a torn achilles, Jerry looked out for him(which alot of owners wouldn't) and he got paid big bucks for making the pro bowl...Does he think he's going to be the only OLB on the team until he calls it quits? This guy cracks me up sometimes, its HIS job, the more reps Spencer can get with the 1st unit the better for him, Ellis doesn't even need these reps.

Also I guess you could say this is a surprise, but from a business perspective you can't argue with it.

Quote:
Terry Glenn says the Cowboys have asked him to take a $500,000 injury settlement if his knee prevents him from playing this season.

The Cowboys have held Glenn out of OTAs because if he gets hurt, they'll be on the hook for his $1.74 million base salary. Despite public optimism, they're obviously concerned about his playing status. Glenn hasn't signed the waiver yet and presumably won't be allowed to practice until he does.
http://www.star-telegram.com/804/story/669549.html

Good for us, having Glenn limited is obviously nice but thats a nice salary hit for a guy who may or may not play...Glenn is supposedly not too happy about it, but who would be, I'd be pissed at the chance of losing a million dollars but he missed the entire regular season last year, all he had to do is dress and he makes his money.

Default OTA news

Here's some quickhits from OTA's via dmn blog, just wanted to share as its some pretty good info and finally gives us something to talk about or look forward to.

Quote:
 For now, and probably until Pacman Jones is reinstated, Mike Jenkins has entrenched himself as the club's No. 3 corner. In nickel looks, Terence Newman is kicking down to the "Star" position in the slot, as he always has, with Jenkins coming in on the left side. And in the two practices we've watched, Jenkins has looked mighty impressive, though he was beaten for a touchdown by Sam Hurd in the red-zone passing skeleton (7-on-7s). On that play, Hurd made a nice in-and-out move, prompting Jenkins to bite on the slant, and went over his back, where he stretched out for a Tony Romo offering.

 Take this for what it is, but the pass defense looked solid, if not spectacular this morning as a whole. In both 7-on-7s and in team work, Tony Romo continually was forced to go through his progressions and throw to checkdown targets, because guys were covered downfield. Now, generally, at this time of year, the pass offense's timing isn't where it will be, so there's that. But the fact is that without a real, live pass-rush - and the Cowboys will have a good one - the pass defense was able to handle the team's receivers all over the field.

 Most of today's work was spent on red zone and special teams drills. Early periods, after stretching and group work, had the team working inside the 20 on 7-on-7. Then came a lengthy special teams period (if you're interested, Patrick Crayton and Danny Amendola were the punt returners). And that was followed by team red-zone work.

 I've said this a couple times now, and we'll have more on him tomorrow, but keep an eye on Courtney Brown. He's gained about 10 pounds, going up to 205, and is seeing reps both at strong and free safety. With Ken Hamlin gone, Brown is now the third guy at the position, and was playing deep with the first-team in sub packages, with Roy Williams going underneath to his accustomed nickel linebacker spot. Brown made a great play on a Romo ball deep in the end zone, and the only thing preventing a pick there was Terrell Owens roping Brown to the ground and getting the ball loose. Also, Kevin Burnett, and I'm not just saying this because he's got a blog with us now, was another guy who distinguished himself in coverage, coming up with a couple pass breakups in covering backs and tight ends.

 Any Cowboy plans to take Roy Williams off the field in pass coverage weren't apparent on Wednesday. He was in on just about every snap, no matter what the look was defensively. Now, the trouble is that they had him blitzing quite a bit, so we couldn't see him in coverage much. And when he was covering, he didn't stick out, which is probably a good thing. As Tim noted earlier on, he got a ton of one-on-one instruction. I found it a bit puzzling, since most of the other guys getting that kind of attention were rookies and newcomers. Didn't see that with the Newmans or Romos or Wares of the club. But you can't say he did much wrong today.

 At the risk of repeating Timmy's post from earlier, Anthony Spencer looked like a monster today. He even flashed some coverage ability, breaking nicely on a ball in the flat. And the pass-rush ability to get to the quarterback was obvious - that explosive first step is impressive. It sent me looking to a blog profile of Spencer I did for the Boston Herald last year, which described how well he did against 2006 Top 5 picks Joe Thomas and Levi Brown.

 What can the Cowboys get if Spencer emerges? Well, if Greg Ellis is content, then the three edge rushers the club has, with DeMarcus Ware factored in, could be scary good. Consider that with Shaun Phillips and Shawne Merriman as the edge guys, and Steve Foley hurt, Wade Phillips' San Diego defense generated 61 sacks in 2006. Without being presumptuous, that number isn't out of the question for this group, if everything is right that number is reachable.

Here's a few more that were interesting...

Quote:
*WR Sam Hurd had a mighty fine practice. His touchdown catch over Mike Jenkins was the highlight of the day. He had decent separation and made a leaping grab in the end zone. Miles Austin, on the other hand, didn't stand out. He dropped a pass near the goal line during 7-on-7 drills.

*The 11-on-11 running drills were very physical for "non-contact" work. First-round pick Felix Jones even fumbled on a play. Unlike college teammate Darren McFadden, ball security isn't a knock on Jones, though.

*Not quite sure what to think of the reverse to T.O. Tony Romo is the lead blocker on the play, and while he threw a few pretty good pretend blocks, the design of that play seems to be begging for Brad Johnson to get meaningful snaps.

*Second-round TE Martellus Bennett looked like a nervous rookie. He had a false start and a drop. Touchdown machine Tony Curtis (three on three catches last season) is working as the No. 2 TE.

*Fan favorite WR Patrick Crayton looked good again. He made a nice in-and-out cut to beat Pro Bowl CB Terence Newman in goal-to-go 7-on-7 work. He got inside Anthony Henry on a skinny post later. SS Roy Williams was in position to either make a big hit or whiff at about the 5-yard line.

*T.O. pulled a couple of undrafted rookie free agents aside to give them route-running tips early in the practice.

*CB Orlando Scandrick, a fifth-round pick who sat out last week because of an eye infection, worked out wearing a visor. Can't say he did a whole lot that caught my attention, good or bad.

Things that stood out to me and my thoughts...

* I love our 3 corner look right now even without Pacman...Jenkins looking great is probably the best news, thats already a huge upgrade for us and lets T-New play the slot where he is most comfortable...Our Secondary is starting to shape up, and the thought of having 3 guys who can cover man to man is encouraging...I know its early but Jenkins is looking like a steal that we got lucky with...If everyone is healthy, I can imagine Pacman taking Henry's spot outside and Henry floating to FS in some dime coverages.

* Crayton is on a mission to prove everyone wrong who says we "need" more WR's, he was upset about the talk of needing a #2 and any competitor should, and every work out he has been playing excellent...Beating Newman and Henry, catching everything, one bad playoff game shouldn't let us forget how well he played for the entire year and how good of hands he has...His route running is very underrated and he is excellent at finding the soft spot in defenses when Tony starts to scramble, I expect a big year from him.

* Woohoo some Courtney Brown love :D Gotta be excited about somebody at the safety position distinguising themselves, gaining weight and getting looks at both safety spots...I haven't seen him in games to know what we have, but the news about him is encouraging.

*Hurd looking great, Austin not so much...It's still early, and I did see another practice report that had Austin looking nice out there, but I've consistently seen Hurd look like a playmaker all off-season...Again this guy is still 23 years old, who knows how much potential he has but if he keeps consistently getting better at this rate thats a great find...I really want him to see the field on more meaningful snaps this year.

* I'm VERY excited about Spencer, getting limited work has made his transition from DE to OLB all the more easier...He wasn't thrown out there, and it already looks like he is playing with instincts and can play alot faster now that he knows whats going on...I love him as an edge rusher, and I really feel like Wade is going to have all 3 of our edge rushers on the field at the same time to get after the QB.

It wouldn't be a Cowboys' offseason if Greg Ellis didn't start complaining. He'll be fine once he gets in there, but he's the biggest worrier I've ever seen.

Getting very old, Jerry looked out for him with that money last year and this is how he repays him...I have heard grumblings about us wanting to turn him into a pass rushing specialist and using Spencer on 1st and 2nd downs, guess we will have to see...Either way the last thing he should be doing is crying about a young guy getting snaps.

I still remember how much he cried about the switch from DE to OLB and how we were trying to push him out the door, now 12.5 sacks, a pro bowl, and 2 million dollars later it doesn't end...This is probably the last year we have him so I wan't to get what I can, I'm tired of the excuses, he's not 25 years old anymore and in his head I think he wants to be treated as such.

Greg Ellis is crying about his job security, what else is new? If he wasn't such a good player you'd never put up with this crap.

I know this is trivial but it's the off-season- Is anyone else really tired of calling and hearing others refer to a grown man as pacman? As far as nicknames go who would want to be named after a crappy 80s video game?
