Quote:
On the right side, Marc Colombo is having a throwaway season as further evidenced by his performance (-4.2) against the Eagles:

This was Colombo’s fourth game of the season with a grade lower than -4.0 and he was poor in both pass protection and on the ground. Colombo gave up a sack, hit and two pressures in the 42 times Kitna dropped back to pass. He contributed to the 13-yard total gained when running right of the center.

For the season, Colombo has accumulated a -30.2 grade, the second worst grade in the league surpassed only by the Bears' RT J'Marcus Webb. What is particularly alarming is the dropoff from last year. In 2009, Colombo graded out with a +6.1 over the 10 regular season games he played healthy, which ranked him as the number 14 right tackle.
Quote:
Another player PFF looked at in detail is Jay Ratliff, who they see as the third best 3-4 pass rushing NT in the game ( +11.0 rushing grade is actually up significantly vs 09). They also see him suddenly struggling in run defense this year and have strongly downgraded his run defense accordingly (+13.0 2009, -6.5 in 2010). The Eagles game was no exception to the general trend:

Jay Ratliff (-2.1) is struggling against the run, especially this year. The nose tackle made one tackle (a stop) and an assist for a run-defense grade of -1.7. He is still dangerous as a pass-rusher, however, getting a sack on 20 rushes (which accounted for his other stop). Ratliff also committed a penalty when he jumped offside.

For the season, Ratliff has a +4.8 grade (+11.0 pass rushing, -6.5 run defense). Josh Brent (+3.7) isn’t anywhere near the dominant factor that Jay Ratliff is in the passing game but at times he's looked like a better option against the run (-1.2 pass rushing, +5.3 run defense). Something that the numbers don't necessarily reflect is that more than ever, opposing offenses are keying on double-teaming Ratliff, and if they can get him blocked, there goes the run defense up the middle.

And here's another thing to consider as you look at Ratliff's grades: Marcus Spears was easily the best run defender on the team garnering a +8.6 grade in run defense through week nine (Spears injured his calf in the third quarter of the week nine game against the Packers and has since been placed on injured reserve). Through week nine, Ratliff had a +0.2 grade against the run. In the 5 games without Spears, Ratliff has a -6.7 grade against the run.

Other key players of note: Keith Brooking, who entered the game with a foot injury, had his worst grade of the season with a -2.9 as he struggled on run defense. Sean Lee (+0.8) on the other hand was good against the run and made three tackles with two stops in only 17 defensive snaps. Of note: Brooking played 39 defensive snaps, his lowest total of the whole season.
awesome stuff from btb

I wouldn't say the redskins game even with grossman is an easy win. The redskins always place us well. It's an odd game.

It's Rex Grossman.

It's about as close to a bonafide guaranteed victory you can get in the NFL.

Shanahan is tanking the season so he can get a higher draft pick. Isn't it obvious? He also wants to pick higher than the Cowboys.

He wants Locker. He had a hardon for Bradford last year but couldn't get him (also loved Locker) he doesn't want to miss out on Locker this year.

As a fan of a rival NFC East team, are you at all scared by what Shanny could do with a guy like Locker?

I kind of am. If he can somehow get the most out of Locker's physical talents, that could be a scary offense for years.

I'm scared as hell because he's the perfect type of qb for shanny's system and this kid has elite physical tools and work ethic. He will be a probowl player if he plays with shanny. I actually want locker if he's the best player on our board and there isnt a dline available and prince and peterson are off the board.

Dude, with the way our season has gone.. watch Rex Grossman just say "**** it im going deep" and torch our secondary for 500 yards and 5 TD's.

With the luck of our season, it isn't impossible. This game won't be a cake walk. I'll bet on that.

Hurd has to make that catch though. Your in a dog fight for playing time, and guys like that need 2 be making those plays if they want to prove they deserve to play.

Did you see that ******* kick? Jesus Buehler.

As for Sammy...I want more targets! haha. Looking good on those screens. Got his feet wet a little. Would have been nice if he hauled in that TD, not gonna bash him too much on that because he was off balance a bit. It would have been a big grab. But given all his spactacular catches in camp/preseason, you'd kind of expect him to make that kind of grab. He's done well with his targets, though. I want moar.

Hurd just hasn't made the plays when he's in there.

I sincerely hope whoever our coach is next year, that we have a robust search for a kicker. I think we'll be in the hunt next year, and we can't this kind of inconsistency with the kicking game.

He's had four targets and went for three first downs. Hurd's doing just fine. And if you're talking about in his career...he never sees the field, so I dont know how you can expect him to make big plays all the time. And when he does play, he produces. He's not some all world receiver...but the guy is solid.

Witten's going to have a shot at 1,000 again this year after today. 7th TD tied a career high.

Welp...Sam Hurd has definitely...done the opposite of taking advantage of his opportunities.

Career 4th or 5th receiver

He's not some all world receiver...but the guy is solid.
Not to cherry pick, but that's 2 catchable passes in the endzone he hasn't delivered on. He's a JAG, I think we can do better with our 3rd/4th WR.

He's not going to be on the team next year. They obviously like Oggs and Hurd wants to play more at WR. I'd be shocked if Hurd was back, he always seems to be the odd man out. I never said he was a super star, he's a solid receiver. Who is capable of being a 2 and most certainly a 3. He's every bit the receiver of a Jason Avant or a James Jones. As for the passes...both tough catches, but yes, I would have expected him to at least haul in that 2nd one. Hurd's hands are not normally in question...the dude is still getting open. He just needs to make these grabs. I'm def. disappointed, but to say he's a career 4th/5th guy, would be a false statement, imho.

Find me a 5th WR that does more for his team than Hurd...he isn't the 3rd or 4th. He plays every single special teams unit. And comes in at the end of games to run block. Don't be dumb

Uhhh, that's pretty much the definition of a JAG. I don't think anyone is saying he's bad...He's just an average player. He does quite a bit on special teams...and is a leader. He's just not going get looks at WR, and he shouldn't unless it's a circumstance like this.

Roy is most likely gone next year, so we're looking at Miles, Dez, Ogletree, and Hurd if we stay status quo. My point is, I think we can do better than Hurd as a 3rd or 4th option.
