Scandrick does have a way of quickly making fans... lol. But we know it's not the ability, but rather the consistency that he lacks. I love how smart of a player he is, but I'm ready for him to take the next step. Ryan is supposedly great at developing cornerbacks, so I'm excited about this union. If Scandrick comes through this season that would eliminate CB from being a 1st round need.
Hellooo TJ McDonald! :D

How do you expect your defense and new OL to do this year? Do you expect your defense to come out slow because of no mini camps, OTAs, and off season?

That's exactly why Bennett won't be replacing Witten after this year, or ever.
2 plays, 2 very different results.

I don't like the hype that our young OL are getting and I think our defense will be average. Rob Ryan will be a difference maker in attitude but it won't be enough to propel us into a top 8 defense... Not in year 1.

^^ 3 possesions, one TD, one fg, and a turnover....2nd preseason game and they already look better than last year...sadly.
(well a overturned turnover...)
Oh and...I don't know assignments obviously...but Alan Ball has looked utterly confused out there. Just ridiculously confused. Gave up a TD, and has been getting picked on.
Wow I hope to goodness sake T.New and Jenkins can stay healthy...

Felix dominated in his touches tonight..looked powerful and quick. Even saw a MB type of stiff-arm.

You guys are always going to get hype. Now, if the unit is worthy of it is a different thing. But you will def. get hype for whatever you do.
You seem to have realistic expectations. I think it will come down to how fast your guys adjust to the scheme. We went through it last year with Fewell..

So who's still buying into the scandrick hype after tonight? lol
I really don't like what I've seen from our defense in these first 2 preseason games, we can't get off the field.

too bad our RB situation was already decided before TC even started. Murray better live up to his billing.

The first teamers looked nice. D still needs work though. Felix looked incredible, and so did Tanner. Dude needs a spot for his hustle, and Mcgee showed great progress. Good things all around.

I think people are making too much of Scandrick giving up the long pass tonight. He was covering a pro bowl receiver that is 7 inches taller than him with no help over the top.

Scandrick's limitations are part of what will always keep him inconsistent. I wonder how he'd fare as a FS. Speaking of FS... if Jenkins doesn't turn the corner for good at CB... I believe he should be transformed into a FS. He's great in pursuit and good when he can see the ball in front of him. He could be a real playmaker there.

Phillip Tanner and Lonyae Miller both have me sold.
....for different reasons. Tanner sold me that he's a keeper. Miller sold me that he's a dumper. You gotta love the way Tanner approaches the game and tries to use every ounce of ability that he can squeeze out on every play.
Oh and David Arkin on that no helmet run by Tanner was totally awesome pancaking his defender.

I loved the 1st team O-Line play. Fantastic. Tyron Smith is amazing.
Felix looks exceptional out there, he's ready to do big things.
Tanner does look better than Miller. I talked about Tanner's burst last week. He explodes out of the backfield, he's incredibly quick. I really like the guy. He cant block for **** right now, though. I'd like for him to stick. Miller had some better blocking, and he didnt do much with it. Had one nice reception, that's about it.
Gronk and Chapas are the same guy...this is going to be an interesting decision. But I think Gronk comes out on top.
Still incredibly difficult to gauge or defense, missing our starting corners. Mccann and Ball? Yeah right. Mccann's a trooper, he's actually a solid tackler, but he cannot cover at all. It was nice seeing Sensy make a play, but of course it was over turned. Elam looked great blitzing. Scandrick still scares me...but he's been great all camp long, so hopefully he's in for a good year, when he goes back to nickel when the season starts.
I sure wish we could get Bailey a few opportunties. haha. I want him to take this kicker job.

Sense actually looked much better in both coverage and tackling. Dude laid the wood a few times out there. Surprised me. I hope he can make that transition to a above average safety this year. Although I doubt it.
I'm really not too down on the secondary last night...If Ball is playing...we're toast, but otherwise the defense played pretty decent. Gotta put everything into context, SD is top 3 offensively..well oiled machine going up against one of the worst defenses in franchise history, a new scheme, and key injuries at CB and NT. Not excusing them, but...I'm not too upset.
Tanner....man...Tanner is just a player. Pure and simple. He reminds me of Choice actually, with quite a bit more burst.

I certainly wouldnt say I'm happy with the DBs....Rivers picked them apart. But yes, we are missing our starting corner duo, so it's just tough to see where this team is at right now.
There was def. a lot of pre snap confusion yesterday. Guys didnt know where to line up or what exactly their assignments were on a couple of occasions. And Dallas blew several coverages, one of which went for a wide open touchdown.

D looked shakey for sure.
I still give them an I for incomplete: new system, no offseason & no starting CBs.
As for RB, I'm wondering if they would dare go into the season with no FB? They've got 3 good blocking TEs, and they've got 5 good RBs. I sure like what I saw from Tanner; I just wonder if the like Miller a bit more because of his size.
First OL group looked pretty good. I think our best 5 might be Gurode moving to guard and Costa starting at center. I think Arkin & Nagy can be our starters eventually, but I think Arkin needs a year to gain strength. I just don't think he's physical enough right now.
My overall feeling is that the defense will get better but the offense may need to carry them for several weeks. Barring injury, I think the defense should be pretty decent by mid-season. Let's just hope the offense can win some shootouts up to that point.

Jermey Parnell
Is anyone else pretty impressed with this guy. Huge kid, clearly a good athlete, he has huge upside. I follow college football really closely and Jermey Parnell never really stood out at Ole Miss at all, and yeah I guess he only played one season as a defensive end. Guess the guy played basketball as well before then at Ole Miss.
Really impressive prospect I feel, sure we was cut by a few different teams so far but the Cowboys should hang onto him. Clearly the kid has to practice his game and his abilities if he never really played football, but again his upside is huge.
If they don't I am sure another team will pick him up and sooner or later he will stick on a roster and be given a chance.

Could I get some input on how Josh Thomas has been doing, so far? Anything notable?

Extremely raw. Athletic as hell, but the brains part of the equation is very substandard. Had an ugly hold call against him yesterday. You need to have OL that are smart and I question that with Parnell. He might just be our 3rd best tackle though. Sam Young is atrocious.
