OH, I didn't realize he was that old. I agree.

I get sad when I see real teams playing like today. NE v Balt is already a great game. Players not being sloppy. Tough plays. <sigh> One can hope this franchise changes its MO.

Giants are one lucky ass team.
1) Muffed punt
2) Fast whistle
3) Sure INT, two defenders hit each other and CB injured.
They are surely blessed.

This 49er/Giant game is fun to watch. We'd be losing this one 31-7 against either team because once we get punched in the mouth, it's over. We need attitude guys as much as anything.
Did you notice in the 1st half, Cruz was basically dominating Rogers, who is a Pro Bowl CB, mostly because the 49ers weren't getting consistant pressure. Once the front 7 took over, you haven't heard as much. We desperately need to upgrade the front 7.

After watching today's game, sign me up for Ahmad Brooks. He looked really good out there.

I remember when he came out supplemental, I wanted him. Much like Jared Gaither. Oh well.

I know stats don't mean everything, but he had 6 sacks on the season. I don't want a Spencer clone. Don't let one game, or even ONE PLAY where he hit Eli's arm make you think he's some stud pass rusher. I wanted him in the supplemental draft as well, but we need more of a pass rush.

I'm not basing this off of one game. From the games I've seen he was able to put some good pressure on the QB.

Reminder: We gave Marcus Spears a 5 year, $19.2M deal.
It saddens me too that this team is satisfied with mediocre talent at DE.

This has been our biggest shortcoming since making the transition to the 3-4

Well, it's not like we haven't tried. We've gone through Marcus Spears, Chris Canty, Jason Hatcher, Stephen Bowen, Kenyon Coleman, Sean Lissemore and a few other guys that haven't given us that type of dominant player. It's not that we aren't trying to address it.. it's that our scouting department sucks dick.

Yep. We settled on Canty and Spears and haven't done anything remotely positive since then. Also we have to take into consideration. What chance we have had to pick up a truly impact 3-4 DE since then as well.

Hatcher stepped up big time. He's probably the most underrated guy on the defense right now. He really shined his ass off this season. He's got to be one of the most forgotten players on the D-line. I'm all for Ratliff moving out to DE, but only to make a great tandem with Hatcher.
Outside of Ware, Sean Lee, and maybe Jenkins when he's playing, Hatcher was probably the best guy on D this year. I hope that turn that into a positive because I absolutely hate seeing the Giants yet again in the Super Bowl.

DE- Ratliff
NT- ?
DE- Hatcher
OLB-Ware
OLB-?
ILB-Lee
ILB-Carter?
CB-?
CB-Jenkins
NB-Scandrik
S-Sensabaugh
S-?
QB- Romo
RB- Murray
FB- Fiametta
WR- Bryant
WR-Austin
TE- Witten
T- Smith
T- Free
G-?
C-?
G-Kosier/Holland?
So the way I look at it, there's really 5 question marks on the defense right now. This is if we do move Ratliff to DE. Which if that happens, I'm comfortable with our starters. However, rotation at DE will be an issue. We'd be left with Lissemore and Spears. I'm okay with both of those guys, but we need a third to rotate in. We can gain some depth in the draft.
NT becomes a huge need position. All we have left over is Brent. I like Brent for depth, but not a starter. We could take a look at these FA's.
-Franklin- getting old and not sure what he has left, could be a rotational guy.
-Pouha- he's 33, but was solid for the jets. so not sure here
-Soliai- could come at a decent price
ILB- we've got Lee who is turning into a steal for us and one of the best playmakers in the NFL at the ILB position. Carter is still a virtual unknown. Might be a good Nickel back for us this year until he really learns the ropes. We can find some value in FA here.
-D'well Jackson- RR is familiar with him and he could be a good player to bring in while Carter learns the defense.
I'd almost consider taking Hightower in the 2nd round if we can gain an additional 2nd round pick. I know that's not a popular decision, but someone with that kind of talent is hard to pass up.
Now at OLB I'm at kind of a loss here. I don't think Butler has shown enough to name him the starter right now, but there's nobody else on the current roster I'd consider a challenger. I'm just not quite sure what to think of the guys in the draft. I keep reading that the OLB crop and possible DE's to convert just aren't that strong this year. I don't bring Spencer back at all, but would consider these guys at OLB.
-Cliff Avril- He would have to convert, but think he has the skills to do it, but he's possibly gonna be out of our price range.
-Mario Williams- out of our price range
-Ahmad Brooks- I'm intrigued with him. I'd take a long hard look at him and if the price isn't too high, I'd highly consider him.
CB is another very interesting position. Newman has to go, there's just no debating this one. Out of the rest of the players, I'd only want to keep Jenkins and Scandrik. That leaves a bit of a hole. However, the draft seems fairly deep and some potential FA's out there. In the draft I'd look at Gilmore and Minnifield. I like these FA's.
-Thomas- hopefully he's healthy, could be a nice addition to the starting roster.
-Tracy Porter- i'm not super high on him, but think he could come at a good price
Safety, I believe we have to address either with Michael Griffin or in the draft.
As for Offense, I'll keep this one short and sweet. To me it all boils down to signing Robinson, if we can get him under 4.5/year. And to fixing the IL by getting a C and a G. 2 G's would be ideal, but let's face it might not happen. If we can only get one, I think that either Holland or Kosier can be serviceable for one more year. Guards are pretty deep in the draft and at Center Konz or Brewster would be nice pick-ups. FA's look like this to me.
-Nicks- I love him, but doubt it will happen
-Grubbs- only if he comes at a respectable rate
-Meyers- would love this pick up, spend the cash

Does not make me feel good. DL is one of the strengths of our team? If we leave Ratliff at NT by thanksgiving our defense will drop significantly. Time to address the position with a monster.

This encourages me that we will get a true NT:
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d...headline_stack
His key words are "if we adjust our defense" which would hopefully mean getting bigger DL to take up blocker for Lee and Carter.
