I play bass pretty much every day, whether it is with friends or along to the music I listen to, or writing a worthwhile bassline occasionally, there really hasn't even been a day this month where I didn't pick it up and play on it for at least 30 minutes. I just finished playing right now, actually, and probably will later tonight again when I go over to my friends house. It is very relaxing sometimes, but my one friend who I play the most music with is far ahead of me musically, so when we will have jams I can sometimes get pissed off because I can't match his playing, particularly when we have drum/bass jams. I'm getting better and better, and those moments where I have to stop and flip him the finger are becoming less, and every once in a while we have a pretty ******* groovy tune.
We alsoplay music with a few friends, a group including myself (bass and percussion), the banjo/drummer, a guitar player, and a sax player. We mostly started out just jamming a little while ago, but we've written a few songs that we play together as well. We don't play out or anything, but we've been to a few open mic nights around our area (minus the sax, he's usually away at college) and have a blast. Its nothing I'd say would make us rich or a household name (we'd need a stronger guitar player, and I need to keep stepping up my game), but the drummer/banjo and sax player are both very good at what they do. I actually just started learning to play instruments very recently, picked up the bass pretty quick after I got comfortable with it (started learning banjo before bass), and we've been making some real interesting music that I really like playing. The sax player isn't home all that often, but when he is, it adds a completely different dynamic to the sound of our music. I'm by far the most behind in the group, but they have all been playing much longer than I have. When we are without the sax player we have a pretty folky sound to us, but with a lot of jamminess (word?) to us. I'm kinda holding us back on bass for some of the jams right now, which just shows how far ahead they are of me, but in the last few months I've gone from saying that I'm learning to play the bass to being a decent/solid bass player.
I'm also kinda learning guitar. Its hard for me to actually sit down and learn one because I don't have my own, but I will play a few little melodies on the guitar every once in a while, mostly just little solo/lead type riffs, but nothing organized or anything, just a few scales I'll screw around with. I don't know chords on the guitar yet either, but I kinda want to pick that up as well. But right now I'm focusing mostly on the bass.

Was just watching Arcade Fire's performance from Bonnaroo 2011, brought back a lot of great memories. MMJ then Arcade Fire is probably the best back to back concert experience I've ever had, and that's saying something.
