I have seen Weezer live twice and both shows were incredible.

I was shocked, honestly. Rivers uses the whole stage, which is always great to see, but they particularly impressed with their musicianship. As someone who never saw them live, or saw any of their live stuff, its a completely different sound. They hold so much back in their album recordings, I honestly don't know how they do it. I gained a lot of respect for them that night. The other thing that was great is that the crowd was much less hipster-y than most of the shows I've been to, which made the crowd interaction and experience great as well.

I've seen Weezer 22 times in concert. They're unarguably my favorite band of all time, as many of you here know. I have extraordinarily high expectations though and I never expect to be blown away when I see them anymore. That ship has sailed in 2010 after the Memories tour. Glad you found the experience to be worth-while.

I totally understand the obsession, I really do. I went into it more familiar with their stuff than what was just on the radio, but not a die-hard like much of the crowd that was there. It didn't take me long to realize, two hours before they were on (before my friend's band played, even), that the people there LOVE Weezer. The W's being thrown up (in everybody's different way), different people, at different stages of intoxication, already, yelling and screaming, but not being that annoying type of yelling and screaming. It was funny, before they started playing I got to talk to everyone around us, great friendly people, though (and this is my favorite part, because it's reflective of my mentality with live shows, and one I wish more people would allow themselves to do) the personalities seemed tame and rather contained in comparison to their personality during the show. It's their release.

Everyone who is there, is there having a great time, being genuine to themselves and the world around them. That's something that the hipster crowd doesn't seem to get, I've noticed, that I enjoyed so much with the Weezer crowd. Don't get me wrong, my personal favorite shows are more like The Head and the Heart, but I realize I'm usually one of the few people doing exactly what they want the entire show (coincidentally, my favorite THATH show I was surrounded by people, who like at the Weezer show, just didn't give a damn). The hipster crowd seems like they're too worried about looking stupid (or cool), to just have fun at their favorite shows. It was nice to see that, especially so close to home (on a Thursday Night). Notice I haven't even talked about there music yet, I totally understand the admiration for Weezer.

Personally, I could see myself going to more of their shows as I get more familiar with their music. They aren't my "wheelhouse", but I've noticed my so-called "wheelhouse" is expanding. Much of it has to do with the various bands I've been listening to pushing their sound to different degrees, which has resulted in an expansion of my tastes in music. Now is a great time for music, there are many great acts making their way, and plenty of great messages to convey, regardless of where they fall in terms of genres, and Weezer is one of them.

I can understand the tempered expectations after 22 shows, bands that I've seen even 5 or 6 times sometimes become too familiar, if they aren't constantly evolving their sound. As I've become a stronger musician, and seen more live music, I've realized just how much I value progression throughout music. Most of my favorite musicians, regardless of their labelled genres, have progressive evolving aspects of their music; within the song, from song to song on the album, and throughout their career. This is why The Dave Matthews Band is so popular, progression. I may not always like the sounds they are experimenting with, but it's the continued evolution and exploration that I appreciate, and fully enjoy (they aren't one of my favorite bands, fwiw, I just have LOADS of respect for them as musicians). With Jam bands like DMB (and bands that experiment and progress), it may not always sound great (this is more about the jam bands), but when they find something incredible that works in harmony, it truly elevates the music. The antithesis of the brown note, lol

Now it's a completely different type of progression I picked up on at Weezer's show, but it's a quality I picked up on that you don't get as strongly listening to one song on the radio, or a couple songs in a row in your car, and many of the other bands you hear, particularly on popular radio. They were tight, and progressed through their songs and their set honest to the emotion, which is what was reflected by their crowd. To be completely honest, the fact that the crowd and the band seemed supportive of a local band, that quite honestly, didn't deserve to open for Weezer, shocked me just as much as the music. You're among good people, fischy, good people who know great tunes.

Edit:Blame my boredom at work for the essay, lol.

This is how you explain live music quickly and concisely. Apparently I have a little more free time than you right now, lol.

Edit: I dig The Lone Below and Ivan and Alyosha. Who in these groups has the cyst?

So yesterday was J Mascis's 48th Birthday, so I figured I'd celebrate that great man by showing all of you my Halloween costume and posting some songs for y'all to listen to:

Brand New played a show 10 minutes from my house last night at a very small venue and did all of Weapon and Deja. I tried to get tix when they went on sale but they sold out in 90 seconds and then were going on Stubhub for $150 and over. So upset I missed it. Thankfully I saw them 10 times when I was younger.

People go insane for Brand New tickets, especially if they're playing those albums. I saw them twice, ten years apart. Once as a third opener for the Bosstones when I was in 8th grade, another at a festival with a crap crowd where I left during their set to catch The Bouncing Souls. I'm content.

I think I saw them at Rutgers like 4 or 5 times not to mention other places. They also did a show in Long Island recently and did only Daisy and Devil & God and people were pissed apparently.

Yeah, I actually heard about that. Pretty sure most of their sets in recent years have been predominantly from those two albums, though I know they played some multiple day catalog shows recently and played through Deja Entendu when they came back to Buffalo this year. Between that and it being a hometown holiday show, no surprise that people had different expectations.

You know, I've been using this name or variations (usually with a 2814 at the end) for over a decade on various forums and chat rooms and places. And only in the past few weeks have I really begun listening to this song.

One of the major networks (ABC, I think) had Blondie perform "Call Me" during the New Year's Eve show. My God, did they sound like crap (especially lead singer Debbie Harry). I hope they still aren't touring, if that's how they are playing live these days.
