DX actually did a writeup on McCollum relatively recently...He was very solid in that Kansas game although not too efficient. He could have easily transferred out to a better basketball school. My dad's a Lehigh grad so he's been interesting to follow, definitely will be interesting to keep an eye on.

The Kentucky/UNC game is interesting, would be a nice W for the Heels to get under their belt against another talented team that may underachieve a little this year. Style of play is SO different from what I'm used to watching, up and down and outside of trapping and active hands the defending is pretty minimal at times.

Henson is the worst free throw shooter eveeeeeeeeeeeer. It's painful watching him go to the line. Two straight air balls?

Lol. Yeah.. Na
Inconsistent at the line is what you are looking for.. airballs of course are horrid but the kid has swished many free throws before, he needs to find his stroke. Zeller and Henson have been horses today anyway so enough of the bad talk. Our big men have kept us in it.

Inconsistent free throw shooting is bad. He was at 43.8% last year and he's shooting 33.3% thus far this year. He's an interesting guy because he's lanky and athletic so he can get some dunks and make an impact contesting shots and on the glass, but he's pretty terrible at the stripe. That'll kill you at the end of a game, tough to keep him on the floor. Some of his misses are pretty ugly too.

Captain Obvs.
His stroke isn't all that pretty anyway and he is better when he is in the paint. Everything you just typed is a given. What I am saying is he has played big today on both ends of the court yet if it did come down to him hitting one and missed it I would be furious...

He was just responding to our post saying he wasn't a bad free throw shooter just inconsistent, when in reality they're the exact same thing.

I hope I'm wrong and we see a good rematch here, but Duke is probably going to destroy Butler. WHY COULDN'T YOU HAVE COME BACK GORDON!?!?!?!?!?!

Ha! true story but it could be one of those things that he never gets better at or with enough practice maybe he can find his stroke at the line. Doesn't worry me too much considering how well he played today. Sure, at the end of games you want other people at the line, but pretty much all teams have a guy who struggles. Him and Zeller though are nasty down low, they get a little more hardball toughness then we are back in business.
Edit- O and pretty much said the same thing to my neighbor when the Butler game was on. Not sure if they would have won but it got close today.

The Gophers are absolutely pitiful without Al Nolen.

How are you guys 13? Who else did you guys beat?
Im asking because didn't even get to watch UNC against Minny and have no idea what they are about. Tubby is a good coach, I know that but what made you guys jump.

West Virginia was our other win, but that might not be anything all that impressive, they just lost to Miami today.
We have a lot of size, but all of them are inconsistent other than Mbakwe who is just awesome. Without Nolen out there though we have no one who can run the offense or get to the basket from the perimeter consistently (Devoe Joseph tries but he's a scorer, not a PG) and we lose one of the best perimeter defenders in the country. It's way too early to make a real judgment on them because they've looked great at times and awful at others.

WVU isn't too bad, obvs better last year but still a quality win for you guys. Miami isn't that bad either, Durand Scott and Malcolm Grant make for a good guard combo and could lead that team to maybe an 8 seed at worst. There OOC schedule isn't too hard but they always compete..
Anyway it probably is a ***** to recruit players to Minnesota.

I imagine it is, but Tubby has done a damn good job overall, he's been hit with some terrible luck though, his best recruit since being here Royce White was kicked off the team for discipline issues, Trevor Mbakwe couldn't play last year because of a trial that was total ********, Al Nolen couldn't play the second half of last year because of academics, etc. All things considered he's done a great job of making us relevant again.

Why? Cause of the weather? Unlike football, you don't have to recruit the South to do well in basketball. Plus, with such a small roster, we have the state of Minnesota to ourselves, and the metro usually produces 2-3 quality kids a year.
Recruiting isn't an issue.

Just because imo most of the talent from basketball, is like east coast. Alot of kids don't want to travel to a school that isn't really primetime for basketball. Sure Tubby gets some talent but it is hard when the team hasn't been a marquee team like MSU, Duke.. etc.

Ugh, this misconception needs to die. The East Coast is NOT better per capita than the west coast at basketball. There is just a higher number of people there. The state of California, Metro Oregon, and the Seattle/Tacoma area produce more than enough talent for the surrounding Pac-10 teams, it is just more go to the bigger schools than on the East Coast. But the #1 city for professional basketball players per capita is Seattle/Tacoma.

Lol. You could be right, just being on the east coast I have seen alot of kids from NY, NC, Pennsylvania and even Florida/Tennessee area. Indiana has a little bit of talent as well as Ohio/Illinois, idk it is probably just because I never hear much from the west.

He's absolutely right, East Coast talent is alright but players on the West Coast are every bit as good. There are some tremendous players from the Midwest as well, tough that's more of a football area IMO. Check out the class of 2012's higher ranked players, a bunch of them are from the West Coast. And the NJ/NY area is pretty overrated IMO. There are good players there no doubt, but it's more depth than top level talent.

Well, yeah, if you're comparing Minnesota to Duke, UNC, Georgetown, and UCONN; recruiting is really hard. That would also make it really hard for about 200 other D1 schools.

Lol. More so just east v west... UCLA could be getting back on track soon which is good but even teams like Texas and Ohio State that are more known for football can get recruits, Texas ranging basically the entire globe while OSU finds kids in state that can play.

Keep an eye on Arizona, Sean Miller is killing it on the recruiting trail. Oregon's gotten some decent players recently, and Washington has been consistently solid for awhile now.

Yeah I kinda hope Zona gets good again, it would be good for the sport. Whatever happen to Lute Olsen anyway? But yeah I forgot to mention Washington, they were legit last year and I think Romar is a great coach and looks to be good recruiter too.

I really like what Romar is doing with UW. He has his backcourt set for a long time with Thomas, Gaddy, Ross, and Wilcox having eligibility left and the best PG in america coming to join them.
