Bomb and get #1 pick or go 8-8 and miss postseason?
Would you rather...
Your favorite team go bust and get the #1 pick or go 8-8 and miss the playoffs?

8-8
Only because the Saints have done it for years. They were always on the verge but never there.
If you go 8-8 you're almost there.

Hmmm....the Titans can go either way. If Young stays healthy for the entire season, I would take the 8-8 season. If he gets hurt due to the Madden curse, I could see a top 5 pick coming up

Depends on expectations.
If your team is terrible on paper going into the season then 8-8 and missing the playoffs is awesome (see Bengals in '03).
If your team is good and only manages 8-8 and misses the postseason then I'd rather them take more losses for a better pick (see Bengals '06).

Touche.
VY's success and the ensuing Titans resurgence that brought them to the brink of a post season birth was something very, very special for that franchise and city.

1st pick, n e thing short of playoffs is a waste of the season. titans started 0-5, we gotta got calvin johnson, but instead showed what we can do and went 8-8 and all we have to show for it is another weak paper team and the #19 pick.

So building chemistry towards the end of the season to carry into next year is a waste of a season?

It's a waste that they have so much team confidence, players are better, and now VY has answered many questions. How can you call it a waste. If they went 2-14 everyone would be calling Vince a waste and the team would have no confidence. You never want to be the worst team, ever.

Hmm, Depends what you need. If you have a young Franchise QB a la Carson Palmer or Quinn, 8-8 never fails.

THis is actually a good topic. I think I would take 8-8, but it is close IMO.

8-8, a top pick isn't worth the money the player will get let alone the humility and shame of being a sucky team.
If you miss pick in the top 5 you can be screwed for years to come.

I think I'd rather have my team put into place a top tier scouting staff
than have a year of 8-8 football.

If you look at it from the packers standpoint this year it can go either way, we were 4-8 heading into our last 4 games. WE played incredible in all of those games and were able to pull out a respectable season and a possible reason for Favre staying, but we still didn't adress the RB position they way we would like too. If we had tanked the last four games it would have a been a second season in a row with no hope, no momentum going into next season , Favre possibly retiring, but we would have got AD. So it's very debatable on both ends but I'll still go 8-8.

as a lions fan, i can testify that being at the top of the draft is worthless compared to being in playoff contention

8-8 no question....You draft players to win games, you don't lose games to draft players.

8-8, The Browns don't have their #1 pick next year. I want Brady Quinn to look good.

If you KNOW that your season is doomed (such as the Saints being displaced), then after a point you're like, "Oh Jesus, let's just get a high draft pick." At least I was after that long season.

The whole world loves neophyte athletic tight end Jimmy Graham from Miami with the 95th pick. "Best pick in the draft,'' one AFC coach told me. "Give him time, and in that offense, he'll be better than [Jeremy] Shockey by the start of next year.''
“We know that no matter the adversity, be it the lockout, be it the suspension or be it a hurricane, our men will pull together and defend the honor of this city. We’ve shown we’ve been able to do that.” - Jabari Greer
