Anyone remember that show "Playmakers" on ESPN?
did anyone watch that show? Had the storylines bout the conceited young Pro Bowl RB, the old Vet who didnt wanna give it up, the LB with injury problems and the *** WR?
pretty good show, why did it get cancled? did any1 think it was accurate of how the NFL is?

Playmakers was a TV series on ESPN that depicted the lives of the players on a fictional professional football team. The show starred Omar Gooding, Marcello Thedford, Christopher Wiehl, Jason Matthew Smith, Russell Hornsby and Tony Denison. The show, which ran eleven episodes from August 26, 2003 to November 11, 2003, was the first original drama series created by ESPN. Though it had a critically acclaimed cast, it was criticized for predictable and often sensationalist storylines, while simultaneously praised by publications such as TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly. The show dealt with topics including drug abuse, steroids, domestic abuse, and homosexuality. The NFL was unhappy with the way the show portrayed professional football players (despite several players speaking out about the accuracy of the lifestyles portrayed), which prompted ESPN to cancel the show.

Yeah, the NFL pretty much threatened ESPN that they'd pull all their games and footage if ESPN didn't cancel Playmakers. Too bad, I heard there was going to be an episode about an illegal dog fighting ring in Season 2.

DVD at Wal-mart's everywhere. I think it's only like 20 bucks. I skipped it to buy the 6 disc 1990's bulls however :).

I loved that show
NFL Strong Armed ESPN to not airing it again. I was hoping Fox or FX or HBO, showtime would pick it up. DH was awesome

Cool show, although I thought it could have been a lot better. Lots of untapped potential that wasn't capitalized on.
