Unless they want to use Collins' athleticism or Browner to play LB in passing situations.

At present, the base defense looks pretty solid to be able to cover any situation without needing specialists in sub packages. That's a really good start. Hopefully Hightower improves his awareness in coverage (i.e. hopefully experience kicks in) and he starts getting his hands up and looking for the ball. He actually isn't bad at staying with route runners. His problem is when the ball is in the air.

If Adrian Wilson is healthy, that could be huge, but I'd still like to see if they can get another safety in the draft. Also hoping for big leaps in development from Collins, Dennard, Logan, and Harmon.

Hightower's problem isn't that he can't run in a straight line with someone. It's that he has no agility and his awareness is awful. It's why his PFF coverage stats don't look that bad, while those who watched him thought he was an abortion in coverage. A lot of times he's just not moving.

Cmarq nailed it on the head with that pick. Thus far Hightower has done almost nothing to be considered a 1st round pick. Collins has already flashed more in like two games than Hightower has in two years.

Hightower is a much better fit where he'll be this coming year than he's been in the past.

I agree, once he moved in the middle and played downhill he was a completely different player

One interior lineman to wait on is Jeremy Zuttah, former Buc and RUTGERS!!! C/OG is above average and will be released at some point before trianing camp

I'm very interested to see how he does this year in the middle. I'm certainly not going to claim he was a good pick, at this point, but I think he's been asked/forced to do things that expose his weaknesses. With Spikes gone he should see a full time MLB role and it's a make or break season.

I pretty much had the light bulb moment today when I realized we had the best CB group in the NFL

It certainly doesn't suck!

I love the terms of Brandon Browner's contract! Essentially the only part of it that is guaranteed is his $1 million base salary in 2014. The rest of it is essentially roster bonuses and playing time incentives.

This is a Super Bowl contender no matter what, but if Duron Harmon can take the other safety spot and any level of health above last year's mess is achieved, this team might be the best Pats squad since that one year that I will not mention even before the draft and remainder of free agency.

Things have been quiet on the Wilfork front, so I'm guessing they're working on smoothing that situation over.

I mean I get the concern, but we did finish 3rd in PPG despite the number of issues we had. We need to add more weapons, and strengthen the interior o-line, but I think everybody has issues and is fairly beatable besides Seattle.

Its certainly not all doom and gloom, however the fact we couldn't move the ball what so ever against Denver without gronk has to be alarming. I would say our inability to move the ball with any success outside of the 4th when the game was in hand and Denver went into prevent D, was absolutely more of the issue as to why we lost than not getting a sack or stopping Manning. I really like the core of this team right now, but I'm concerned with what I saw with that last game. Especially when we typically have such great success against Del Rio defenses.

Some tape of the new guys.

Lafell's deal is worth 3 million guaranteed for a signing bonus, 3 years up to 9 million. I can live with that however it would have been much nicer going to another guy with greater potential cough cough. Still anxiously awaiting edelmen's numbers. If he gets more than Welker that would be some absolute ********.

Lafell's deal is also 3-$9 million with $3 guaranteed contrary to the $11 million that was initially reported.

I mean we did just spend the last 4 years with a guy named Spikes, but yes I'm excited that Browner fills in the intimidation roll.

I hadn't heard about the Desean Jackson situation until it was just posted in the FA thread. Long history of trades between NE & Philly . . . OMG, let's do that!

It's all rumor, though the reports are that even Jackson's "camp" haven't received word from the team either way.

Desean Jackson has a $10.5 million base salary this year, and wants a new contract. He won't get traded here.

I don't even know why you're complaining about LaFell. He's a good fit at a reasonable price. It's fairly impossible to even tell what he'll be in this offense with a consistent QB, anyway. Even if he's the same as he was with the Panthers, he doesn't need to get the ball a lot to be effective when it comes his way, which is important with how Brady slings it around. Brandon Lloyd, for example, had trouble adjusting to not being force-fed the ball constantly.

If LaFell doesn't work out, that means Dobson and/or Thompkins developed and LaFell's contract is easy to walk away from. If he does work out, he has physical ability to be a solid #2 WR in the NFL.

None of that last paragraph is at all true, thats entirely hypothetical. Its very possible none of them work out. Lafell was a bad pick up thats been more or less why we have a problem at the position in the first place. Yes, compared to our crop of wrs its nice to have competition. Compared to pretty much any good wr on any team, our wrs are dog ****. We needed Edelmen because we had literally nothing else, not because hes a terrific player. And for christ sake its ridiculous hes getting Welker money, a year removed from us letting Welker go.
