He's signed for this year and next and is costing us nothing - per rotoworld - 5/5/2009: Signed a two-year, $1.73 million contract. The deal included a $250,000 signing bonus. $100,000 workout bonuses are available in each year. 2009: $550,000, 2010: $730,000, 2011: Free Agent

And it's worth noting that his player page on the pats site states that he "earned the "Hammer Award" for the Black Bears' best special teams hit" as a freshman. A small & local school kid from UMaine, no less. I officially love him. :)

He was really solid for the Bears in limited action a few years ago too. So it's not like he's coming out of nowhere. It's nice to finally have two starter caliber safeties. Haven't had that since Rodney Harrison and Eugene Wilson were still good :)

I love how the safety group went from being a liability to probably my favorite unit on the team so quickly. They have 4 starter+ quality safeties, and they can use them all.

Yeah, it's pretty cool. Completely in awe of how solid our secondary has been this year. We're no longer a one trick defense, with only a great defensive line. We're really balanced now.

B. Meriweather is likely out for the game vs the Colts? Anyone know anymore details on that?

I just read he participated in practice and is a game time decision. Morris and Light practiced as well.

I'm really trying to get over that game. Idk I how I feel about our team come january, but I want another shot at Indy. Too bad were not getting home field advantage here. We need to win our next two for me to be happy, maybe we could get a second seed?

Good game Pats fans. I understand why BB went for that 4th down but no matter how hot the Colts O may have been in the 4th quarter, the odds are still in your favor if you make Manning drive 70 yards instead of 30, more chances for blitzing and more chances for your D to make plays.

The one thing that gets overlooked is the Colts D that kept the Colts in the game with 2 turnovers in the end zone in the second half and limited the Pats to 10 points in the second half (7 of which came on a bad kickoff coverage), not to mention the 4th down stop. I think the true credit should go to the Colts D, or most of it should for the Colts comeback. But as always, the QBs get almost all the credit.

Good news is we put up 34. Bad news is we gave up 35.
Regardless of losing- we definitely dominated the game.
Poor clock and timeout management cost us the game above everything else.
(Including a questionable spot and the a ******** PI call)

We have to beat the Saints now though.
I was convinced to actually solidify as an actual contender we would have to beat Indy and/or the Saints.
I'm not overlooking the Jets (I think we blow them out this time around)
but we MUST beat the Saints

I think with the Jets losing winning against the Saints is not necessarily a must. Last night we dominated a Colts team that had a great offense and the number one scoring defense in the league. Until the fourth quarter when the d line started wearing down the Colts offense got nothing going. Remember the Pats were missing Ty Warren, Jarvis Green and lost TBC and kninkovich early leaving only four rotating all night for four spots. Red zone worries are still there but when everyone gets back no team will want to see the Patriots in January.

Currently it's looking like hopefully hosting Pittsburgh, SD or Denver in the wildcard game as Cincinnattis schedule is a cake walk then hopefully getting another go at the Colts

Am I the only one completely pissed with BB?

Lining up to go for it on 4th & 2 at our own 30 was stupid. I was dumbfounded and pissed before the snap. That only increased when they actually went ahead and snapped the ball and went for it.

Totally ridiculous. That loss was a disgrace.

The Pats had no faith in the RBs to get 2 yards.

Why not deal for Steven Jackson?

I don't know if they tried to get SJax or not, but the Rams weren't selling anyway.

I don't understand why they wouldn't. Pats have 2 firsts next year and quite a few 2nds. Hmm.

The spot was def off, after watching it a few times, even with the bobble, Faulk had made the catch AT LEAST on the marker. ugh, colts somehow squeeze another one from us. BB better get this team pissed like in 07 and start dominating. A saints win is a must for our teams confidence.

I am completely surprised at how much ***** Bill Belichick has been taking over that decision. It was gutsy calls like that that made Belichick the Hall of Fame coach that he is. If Faulk had caught the ball the 1st time and hadn't bobbled it or the Refs had given you a kinder spot then Belichick would have been lauded.

If he punts then the Colts get the ball back with 2 Minutes left and a Timeout. Your defense was tiring, Manning was starting to get the better of them and had a good chance of scoring anyway. If that 4-2 play works out then Manning probably wouldn't have touched the ball again.

I agree with a lot of you though in saying about why he didn't trust the Running Game. Hell the Colts Running Game could gain two yards so why did Belichick not trust the Patriots Running Game? That is the only criticism. Don't criticise him for going for it because it is situations like that that have turned Belichick into a legend.

My question is would YOU want to give Peyton the ball with 2 min left? I've seen teams play it safe too many times and watch Peyton tear them apart with the two minute drill. I don't blame BB at all for the decision.

He would not have been lauded by me. You field an offense, defense and special teams and they should be expected to, like BB himself always stresses, do their job.

The entire situation was a masterpiece of poorly managed football. Zero timeouts to stop the clock or challenge a crucial play should have made the choice to punt easy.

If we had 3 timeouts to force the Colts to score quick while leaving time on the clock for another drive maybe, maybe I would not be as pissed off about it. But BB's decision was essentially a decision to end it with a 1st down or lose the game. That's why I think it was stupid and think he deserves to receive **** about it.

The Pats D responded like I hoped they would.
Welker went ape **** on them. Vollmer continues to impress.
Hopefully his head injury isn't too serious.

Saints up next!!!
